Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The old gods will rise. Humanity will fall. Ben Henare has forsaken his Maori heritage: choosing the modern world over a life following the old ways. His best friend, Lucy Champion, is a woman of logic: training to become a doctor, she believes only in science. Neither of them has room in their lives for the fantastic, the unexplained, or the supernatural. But when a tsunami floods their city, killing Lucy’s parents and endangering Ben’s people, their beliefs must change. The tsunami has awakened powers, ancient and deadly. The old gods have risen. Long have they watched people’s abuse of each other and the natural world; at last the gods have had enough. They will protect the world... by destroying all humankind. Now, Ben and Lucy have only days left. To fight their way across a country shattered by devastation. To protect the magic artifacts now entrusted to their care. And to deliver those artifacts to the gods themselves: offerings that might — just might — appease the powers of destruction. Pursued by human traffickers who have kidnapped Lucy’s sister, hunted by the gods’ warrior spirits and supernatural assassins, Ben and Lucy must forget all they know, and sacrifice everything they love to protect their country from the greatest threat ever known: the wrath of the Risen Gods. New York Times and USA Today bestselling author J.F. Penn teams up with acclaimed dark fantasy author J. Thorn to bring you a thrilling adventure. Book excerpt: What would happen if believers truly grasped how the resurrection of Jesus changes not just their own standing with God, but that it changes everything? In the spirit of John Piper's Fifty Reasons Why Christ Came to Die, Steven D. Mathewson unpacks the New Testament Scriptures that speak of the reasons Jesus was raised from the dead. In fifty brief chapters, he offers readers faith-filled meditations on the primary passages on the resurrection, taking these ancient truths and applying them to contemporary life. With compelling insight, he shows why Jesus not only had to die, but why his resurrection was necessary and how our lives change when we understand and embrace this essential truth of the Christian faith.

On every page the author brings deep insight, conviction and clarity about what God's Kingdom work is all about."-- Dr. Leighton Flowers, Director of Evangelism and Apologetics for Texas Baptists"Never the intentional provocateur, the author does upset some of the most commonly held perspectives on the Kingdom regardless of the stature or popularity of the scholars who affirm them."-- Braxton Hunter, President, Trinity College of the Bible and Theological Seminary, Evansville, IN"This is not an academic treatise written for the theological guild, but it reflects an implicit understanding of major theological interpretations...Steve Gregg's unfolding of God's plan is biblically comprehensive and theologically astute. Book Risen Indeed Resurrection and Doubt in the Gospel of Mark

Download or read book Risen Indeed Resurrection and Doubt in the Gospel of Mark written by Austin Busch and published by SBL Press. This book was released on 2022-08-05 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Risen Indeed? Resurrection and Doubt in the Gospel of Mark traces the literary dynamics and explores the theological dimensions of the Gospel of Mark’s thematization of skepticism regarding resurrection. In every place where it seems to depict resurrection—Jesus's and others'—Mark evades the issue of whether resurrection actually occurs. Austin Busch argues that, despite Mark's abbreviated and ambiguous conclusion, this gospel does not downplay resurrection but rather foregrounds it, imagining Jesus’s death and restoration to life as a divine plot to overcome Satan through cunning deception. Risen Indeed? constitutes a careful literary reading of Mark's Gospel, as well as an assessment of Mark's impact on the traditions of Christian literature and theology that emerged in its wake.

Book The Risen Adam

Download or read book The Risen Adam written by Virginia Hyde and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2010-11 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Showing Lawrence's familiarity with biblical typology from both written and visual sources, Virginia Hyde explores its many ironic and paradoxical versions in his works. She demonstrates his use of typological precursors of Christ, such as Adam and David, Moses and Aaron, and his development of a coherent cosmology centered on the cross and the Tree of Life. These features often take on radically revisionist meanings when informed by Lawrence's interests in theosophy and occult lore. Hyde fully recognized Lawrence's intensely dynamic style and examines the ways in which he works creatively with his models. Hyde sheds new light on Lawrence's &"leadership&" views, linking them to patriarchal assumptions inherent in biblical typology. She utilizes manuscripts and sketches as well as his traditional works to show that a complex form of biblical symbolism affects both his form and content in unexpected ways. His symbols are often traceable to iconographic models with typological significance. The Risen Adam includes pioneering treatments of the first Quetzalcoatl, the 1923 version of The Plumed Serpent, so different in part from the final novel as to form a separate creative effort. Hyde also offers provocative new readings of The Rainbow, Women in Love, Aaron's Rod, &"The Border Line,&" The Plumed Serpent, David, The Man Who Died, Birds, Beasts and Flowers, and other works. The book is illustrated with artwork by Lawrence and with examples of the medieval and other iconography he knew.

  • ISBN : 166427409X
  • Pages : 243 pages

Download or read book Risen Indeed written by Tom Kingery and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2022-08-04 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tom Kingery shares meditations on the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in this book that complements his other groundbreaking works focusing on faith. The book is like a gallery of images and thoughts highlighting Scripture and Christ’s miraculous rising from the dead. Every snapshot delves into resurrection stories from the Gospels, such as the story of the Prodigal Son’s return. In that story, Jesus gives us a new way of looking at life with its failures and triumphs. When we can see beyond the shortcomings in someone’s life and overcome that dead-to-me attitude, someone’s existence takes on a whole new meaning. Likewise, we can gain a new way of looking at death. Even when someone is no longer with us, our memories can bring them back to life and they can remain present in very real ways—we can feel resurrection. Explore life’s unknowns, consider what the world would be like if Jesus had never risen from the dead, and discover why you should never fear dying with the meditations in Risen Indeed!
