Download or read book The Rights and Duties of Citizens of the United States written by Edward C. Mann and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-01 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Rights and Duties of Citizens, of the United States: A Manual of Citizenship The scholars in our public schools and colleges should be instructed as to the elements that go to make up a good and useful citizen of our country, and the obligations, civil, social, and political, due to others from them. They should be instructed to yield respect and obedience to the laws, and to hold on with unflinching firmness to the Constitution and the Union of States. They should be taught the love of liberty and order, to walk in the path of patriotism, of fidelity to our country, and of duty to God. This is necessary in order that when they become of adult age they may be prepared to exhibit wisdom in the cabinet; the purest patriotism; the highest integrity, public and private; morals without a stain; and religious feelings without intolerance and without extravagance. In this little manual of the rights and duties of citizenship I sing the love of country and the pride of country to the youth of both sexes of my country. I teach the need of beating back ones country's enemies, whether they reside in or out of the United States - a most true song, to which I hope the hearts of the youth of our country will burst responsive into fiery melody, followed by fiery strokes before long. Book The Universal Declaration of Human Rights in the 21st Century

Download or read book The Universal Declaration of Human Rights in the 21st Century written by Gordon Brown and published by Open Book Publishers. This book was released on 2016-04-18 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Global Citizenship Commission was convened, under the leadership of former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and the auspices of NYU’s Global Institute for Advanced Study, to re-examine the spirit and stirring words of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The result – this volume – offers a 21st-century commentary on the original document, furthering the work of human rights and illuminating the ideal of global citizenship. What does it mean for each of us to be members of a global community? Since 1948, the Declaration has stood as a beacon and a standard for a better world. Yet the work of making its ideals real is far from over. Hideous and systemic human rights abuses continue to be perpetrated at an alarming rate around the world. Too many people, particularly those in power, are hostile to human rights or indifferent to their claims. Meanwhile, our global interdependence deepens. Bringing together world leaders and thinkers in the fields of politics, ethics, and philosophy, the Commission set out to develop a common understanding of the meaning of global citizenship – one that arises from basic human rights and empowers every individual in the world. This landmark report affirms the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and seeks to renew the 1948 enterprise, and the very ideal of the human family, for our day and generation.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Citizen, His Rights and Responsibilities Before we can determine what are the duties of a citizen, we must first clearly understand what is meant by the word citizen The most obvious meaning of the word Meaning of is a member of a city, or else one who possesses the rights of a member of a city. When we speak of citizens of London, Edinburgh, or Dublin, we mean either the men who live in these places and exercise the rights of citizenship, or else persons on whom the rights of citizenship have been con ferred as an honour. But it is not in this sense that the word is used in this book. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Rights Duties of Citizens

Download or read book Rights Duties of Citizens written by MD. Joynal Abdin and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The topic of my assignment is Rights amp; Duties of citizens. Before describing rights amp; duties let's discuss what does citizen means? Who are citizens? The term citizen can be understood in a narrow or in a broad sense. In a narrow sense it means the resident of a city or one who enjoy the privilege of living in a city. In a broad sense citizen means a person who resides within the territorial limits of the state. Speaking in terms of political science, citizen means a person who is in the members of the state amp; who enjoys social amp; political rights. In our country an adult of eighteen years of age enjoys, regardless of the distinction of cast, color and creed, education property and resident. According to Aristotle: Citizen is he who has a power to take part in the deliberative or judicial administration of any state in said by us to be a citizen of that state. On the basis of the description we can identify following factors of a citizen: A citizen is;I. The member of the stateII. The social amp; political rightsIII. Sentiment of devotion to the stateNow I would like to describe what is Rights? How many rights are there of a citizen? Who will ensure these rights of citizens? Rights are those conditions of social life without which no man can seek to be himself at his best. In another way we can say that, rights are what we may expect from others and others from us, and all genuine rights are the conditions of social welfare. Thus the rights anyone may clime are partly whose which are essential for every man in order to be a rational human person, and partly whose which are necessary for the fulfillment of the function that society aspect from him. They are conditioned by and correlative to his social responsibilities.
