It is a must-have for fans of alpha cowboys and an amazing way to “test drive” five of Mari Carr’s most popular series, including Sparks in Texas, Compass, Just Because, Boys of Fall, and Cowboy Heat. Waiting for Love Hank is pretty fond of Macie’s stories and her off-color jokes and basically everything else she has to offer. After the death of his beloved wife, Hank found his way to Sparks Barbeque, where Macie caught his eye. The more time he spends with her, the more Hank starts to think that maybe lightning can strike twice. And while all Macie knows is keeping it casual, Hank isn’t willing to dance to her tune. Because he wants Macie in his bed…and his life…forever. Red Zone Rancher Joel has a problem. He and his best friend, Oakley, are both hot for the same woman, sexy bartender, Sadie. And while she’s admitted an attraction to them as well, she refuses to choose between them. Until a little too much champagne at a wedding reception leads to an unexpected sizzling encounter between the three of them, kicking off a no-strings affair. However, things get complicated when it becomes clear there’s nothing casual about their feelings. Winter’s Thaw Sienna has it all figured out. Until her long-time boyfriend Josh throws a ringer into her plans, requesting a “break.” Now she’s left alone, questioning what her heart has always believed to be true love. When a tragic accident leaves Daniel unable to pursue his career as a professional bull rider, he finds himself at Compass Ranch. One look at Sienna has Daniel envisioning things he never imagined wanting—a permanent home, love, marriage—and he’s willing to use all the red-hot tricks in his sexual arsenal to melt the ice surrounding Sienna’s broken heart. Because You Love Me Bridget’s life is shot to hell—literally—when she witnesses the murder of her best friend, Lyle. Protective custody? What a joke. Tired of cold, lonely beds and living in fear, Bridget convinces her guardian cop she’s safer off the grid. It doesn’t take twins Mark and Matt long to figure out two things. Bridget’s not only in trouble, she is trouble—they both want her. Between the brothers’ hot, hard bodies, Bridget finally feels safe—and loved. But when a hit man tracks her down, the last thing she wants is to put them in danger. Spitfire Rem has loved Liv forever, but she was way too young for his desires, so he joined the Marines, bided his time. After his father’s death, Rem comes home for good—ready to reclaim his family’s ranch and his woman. But the spitfire he finds brawling in the roughest bar in town is not the girl he left behind. Liv recognizes trouble when she sees it, but she’d be a fool to resist Rem’s seductive demands. Starting in the barn, they use every available body part to bring each other pleasure. To make up for the past, Rem will have to do a hell of a lot more than just satisfy her sexually—but it’s a damn good start.
Download or read book The Cowboy written by Blake Allmendinger and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1992 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What are the connections between cattle branding and Christian salvation, between livestock castration and square dancing, between rustling and the making of spurs and horsehair bridles in prison, between children's coloring books and cowboy poetry as it is practiced today? The Cowboy usesliterary, historical, folkloric, and pop cultural sources to document ways in which cowboys address religion, gender, economics, and literature. Arguing that cowboys are defined by the work they do, Allmendinger sets out in each chapter to investigate one form of labor (such as branding, castration,or rustling) that cowboys perform in their "work culture." He then looks at early oral poems that cowboys recited around campfires, on trail drives, at roundups, and at home in their bunkhouses, and at later poems, histories and autobiographies written by cowboys--most of which have never beforebeen studied by scholars. He discovers that these texts not only deal with work but with larger concerns, including art, morality, spirituality, and male sexuality. In addition to spotlighting little-known texts, art, and archival sources, The Cowboy examines the works of Twain, Steinbeck, Cather,Norris, Dana, McMurtry, and others, and features more than 60 historic photographs, many of which have not been published until now.
Download or read book Let the Cowboy Ride written by Paul F. Starrs and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2000-03-17 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dime novel and dude ranch, the barbecue and rodeo, the suburban ranch house and the urban cowboy—all are a direct legacy of nineteenth-century cowboy life that still enlivens American popular culture. Yet at the same time, reports of environmental destruction or economic inefficiency have motivated calls for restricted livestock grazing on public lands or even for an end to ranching altogether. In Let the Cowboy Ride, Starrs offers a detailed and comprehensive look at one of America's most enduring institutions. Richly illustrated with more than 130 photographs and maps, the book combines the authentic detail of an insider's view (Starrs spent six years working cattle on the high desert Great Basin range) with a scholar's keen eye for objective analysis.

Download or read book A Cowboy Detective written by Charles A. Siringo and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 1988-01-01 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After years of cowboying, Charles A. Siringo had settled down to store-keeping in Caldwell, Kansas, when a blind phrenologist, traveling through, took the measure of his "mule head" and told him that he was "cut out" for detective work. Thereupon, Siringo joined the Pinkerton National Detective Agency in 1886. A Cowboy Detective chronicles his twenty-two years as an undercover operative in wilder parts of the West, where he rode with the lawless, using more stratagems and guises than Sherlock Holmes to bring them to justice and escaping violent death more often than Dick Tracy. He survived the labor riots at Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, in 1892 (his testimony helped convict eighteen union leaders), hounded moonshiners in the Appalachians, and chased Butch Cassidy's Wild Bunch. Once described as "a small wiry man, cold and steady as a rock" and "born without fear," Charlie Siringo became a favorite of high-ups in the Pinkerton organization. Nevertheless, the Pinkertons, ever sensitive to criticism, went to court to block publication of Siringo's book. Frank Morn, in his introduction to this Bison Books edition, discusses the changes that resulted from two years of litigation. Finally published in 1912 without Pinkerton in the title or the text, A Cowboy Detective has Siringo working for the "Dickensen Detective Agency" and meeting up with the likes of "Tim Corn," whom every western buff will recognize. The deeper truth of Siringo's book remains. As J. Frank Dobie wrote, "His cowboys and gunmen were not of Hollywood and folklore. He was an honest reporter.
