Download or read book The A to Z of the French Revolution written by Paul R. Hanson and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2007-02-23 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The French Revolution remains the most examined event and period in world history. Most historians would argue that it was the first "modern" revolution, an event so momentous that it changed the very meaning of the word revolution to its current connotation of a political and/or social upheaval that marks a decisive break with the past, moving the society in a forward or progressive direction. No revolution has occurred since 1789 without making reference to this first revolution, and most have been measured against it. When revolution shook the foundations of the Old Regime in France, shock waves reverberated throughout the western world. The A to Z of the French Revolution examines the causes and origins; the roles of significant persons; crucial events and turning points; important institutions and organizations; and the economic, social, and intellectual factors involved in the event that gave birth to the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen, the introduction of universal manhood suffrage, and the Napoleonic Empire. An introductory essay, chronology, and comprehensive bibliography complement the more than 400 cross-referenced dictionary entries, making this a great resource for students and history enthusiasts alike.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written for mathematics, science, and engineering majors who have completed the traditional two-term course in single variable calculus, Multivariable Calculus bridges the gap between mathematical concepts and their real-world applications outside of mathematics. The ideas of multivariable calculus are presented in a context that is informed by their non-mathematical applications. It incorporates collaborative learning strategies and the sophisticated use of technology, which asks students to become active participants in the development of their own understanding of mathematical ideas. This teaching and learning strategy urges students to communicate mathematically, both orally and in writing. With extended examples and exercises and a student-friendly accessible writing style, Multivariable Calculus is an exciting and engaging journey into mathematics relevant to students everyday lives.

Download or read book Univalent Functions and Conformal Mapping written by James A. Jenkins and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph deals with the application of the method of the extremal metric to the theory of univalent functions. Apart from an introductory chapter in which a brief survey of the development of this theory is given there is therefore no attempt to follow up other methods of treatment. Nevertheless such is the power of the present method that it is possible to include the great majority of known results on univalent functions. It should be mentioned also that the discussion of the method of the extremal metric is directed toward its application to univalent functions, there being no space to present its numerous other applications, particularly to questions of quasiconformal mapping. Also it should be said that there has been no attempt to provide an exhaustive biblio graphy, reference normally being confined to those sources actually quoted in the text. The central theme of our work is the General Coefficient Theorem which contains as special cases a great many of the known results on univalent functions. In a final chapter we give also a number of appli cations of the method of symmetrization. At the time of writing of this monograph the author has been re ceiving support from the National Science Foundation for which he wishes to express his gratitude. His thanks are due also to Sister BARBARA ANN Foos for the use of notes taken at the author's lectures in Geo metric Function Theory at the University of Notre Dame in 1955-1956.
