Book Review of Durability Testing of Building Stone with Annotated Bibliography

Download or read book Review of Durability Testing of Building Stone with Annotated Bibliography written by DD. Carr and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The search for a method to test the durability of building stone has been in practice for centuries. There is no universally accepted method of testing all building stone. The differences in mineralogical, chemical, and physical properties of rocks are too great to have one test evaluate all. The standard ASTM physical tests for building stone contribute, in their own way, to the analysis of durability.

Book excerpt: This volume offers valuable insights into the nature of decay processes and the factors that control them. It presents several studies on the impact of pollution on stonework in urban environments. Important methodological contributions cover: the mapping of facades to explain rates of decay associated with conservation actions; the laboratory simulation of corrosion in polluted atmospheres; the quantification of colour change through a study of the artificial ageing of building stone. The effectiveness of stone treatments within the laboratory is also considered.

Book Handbook of Materials Failure Analysis With Case Studies from the Construction Industries

Download or read book Handbook of Materials Failure Analysis With Case Studies from the Construction Industries written by Abdel Salam Hamdy Makhlouf and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2018-04-27 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Handbook of Materials Failure Analysis: With Case Studies from the Construction Industry provides a thorough understanding of the reasons materials fail in certain situations, covering important scenarios including material defects, mechanical failure due to various causes, and improper material selection and/or corrosive environment. The book begins with a general overview of materials failure analysis and its importance, and then logically proceeds from a discussion of the failure analysis process, types of failure analysis, and specific tools and techniques, to chapters on analysis of materials failure from various causes. Failure can occur for several reasons, including: materials defects-related failure, materials design-related failure, or corrosion-related failures. The suitability of the materials to work in a definite environment is an important issue. The results of these failures can be catastrophic in the worst case scenarios, causing loss of life. This important reference covers the most common types of materials failure, and provides possible solutions. Provides the most up-to-date and balanced coverage of failure analysis, combining foundational knowledge and current research on the latest developments and innovations in the field Offers an ideal accompaniment for those interested in materials forensic investigation, failure of materials, static failure analysis, dynamic failure analysis, and fatigue life prediction Presents compelling new case studies from key industries to demonstrate concepts and to assist users in avoiding costly errors that could result in catastrophic events

Book Accelerated Aging of Concrete

Download or read book Accelerated Aging of Concrete written by Roberto Caldas Pinto and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report provides a review of the literature on accelerated aging of concrete. It was undertaken as part of a research project on predicting the long-term environmental performance of portland cement concrete (PCC) pavements containing coal fly ash. An accelerated aging regime involving temperature, cyclic loading, and freeze-thaw cycles was employed in this project to simulate natural long-term aging processes. This literature review describes the general concept of aging of materials and defines accelerated aging. It describes accelerated aging procedures and applications of accelerated aging, and discusses thermal aging, the most common accelerated aging technique. Accelerated aging techniques and applications for several types of materials (i.e., metals, polymers, asphalts, wood, and masonry) are described, followed by a review of accelerated aging procedures and applications for PCC.

Book Structural Analysis of Historical Constructions Anamnesis Diagnosis Therapy Controls

Download or read book Structural Analysis of Historical Constructions Anamnesis Diagnosis Therapy Controls written by Koen Van Balen and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-11-03 with total page 1879 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural Analysis of Historical Constructions. Anamnesis, diagnosis, therapy, controls contains the papers presented at the 10th International Conference on Structural Analysis of Historical Constructions (SAHC2016, Leuven, Belgium, 13-15 September 2016). The main theme of the book is “Anamnesis, Diagnosis, Therapy, Controls”, which emphasizes the importance of all steps of a restoration process in order to obtain a thorough understanding of the structural behaviour of built cultural heritage. The contributions cover every aspect of the structural analysis of historical constructions, such as material characterization, structural modelling, static and dynamic monitoring, non-destructive techniques for on-site investigation, seismic behaviour, rehabilitation, traditional and innovative repair techniques, and case studies. The knowledge, insights and ideas in Structural Analysis of Historical Constructions. Anamnesis, diagnosis, therapy, controls make this book of abstracts and the corresponding, digital full-colour conference proceedings containing the full papers must-have literature for researchers and practitioners involved in the structural analysis of historical constructions.

Book Structural Analysis of Historical Constructions

Download or read book Structural Analysis of Historical Constructions written by Rafael Aguilar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-08-18 with total page 2536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Structural Analysis of Historical Constructions (SAHC) that was held in Cusco, Peru in 2018. It disseminates recent advances in the areas related to the structural analysis of historical and archaeological constructions. The challenges faced in this field show that accuracy and robustness of results rely heavily on an interdisciplinary approach, where different areas of expertise from managers, practitioners, and scientists work together. Bearing this in mind, SAHC 2018 stimulated discussion on the new knowledge developed in the different disciplines involved in analysis, conservation, retrofit, and management of existing constructions. This book is organized according to the following topics: assessment and intervention of archaeological heritage, history of construction and building technology, advances in inspection and NDT, innovations in field and laboratory testing applied to historical construction and heritage, new technologies and techniques, risk and vulnerability assessments of heritage for multiple types of hazards, repair, strengthening, and retrofit of historical structures, numerical modeling and structural analysis, structural health monitoring, durability and sustainability, management and conservation strategies for heritage structures, and interdisciplinary projects and case studies. This volume holds particular interest for all the community interested in the challenging task of preserving existing constructions, enable great opportunities, and also uncover new challenges in the field of structural analysis of historical and archeological constructions.
