Book excerpt: Letters of the Revelation Leader Kit includes a Bible Study Book and a DVD with a promotional video and six 12- to 15-minute videos that introduce the topic, explore theological truths, and suggest areas of life application. John's Revelation is perhaps the most studied and discussed book in the Bible. Participants will develop a better context for end-times theology and gain a greater understanding of the task that faces the church right now. Rekindling Your First Love: The Church in Ephesus 2. Faithful in Persecution: The Church in Smyrna 3. Return to Purity: The Churches in Thyatira and Pergamum 4. Book excerpt: Sometimes, churches need a little help. These days, some don't know who they are and don't know what they're supposed to be doing. Churches today are trying anything and everything to be effective, but are bewildered by worship styles, spectator syndrome, and consumerism. In the meantime, people are hungry for a relationship with a God who has substance--a God with character and integrity, and a God of grace. And they're having trouble finding such a God in churches today. Seven Letters to Seven Churches is written to challenge the church to be what God created us to be and then do what God created us to do: join Him in His mission to save the world.

Download or read book Reading and Understanding the Acts of the Apostles the New Testament Letters and the Book of Revelation written by Thomas B. Lane and published by . This book was released on 2012-07 with total page 615 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reading and Understanding the Acts of the Apostles, the New Testament Letters, and the Book of Revelation is the third volume of a three part series written for anyone who is interested in acquiring basic knowledge and understanding of the Bible, the book that is the foundation of Western and Middle Eastern civilization. The first volume is titled Reading and Understanding the Old Testament: The Foundation of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The second volume is Reading and Understanding the Gospels: Who Jesus Is, What He Teaches, and the Beginning of Christianity. This third volume covers the acts of the apostles, the New Testament letters, and the book of Revelation, which Christians say are the writings of Peter, Paul, James, and John. This volume, like the others, uses scholarship in a practical manner, moving chapter by chapter through each letter using the actual verses as it explains clearly their basic meaning for people in ancient time and our time today. The reader will experience and get a complete sense of the content and meaning of these writings that Christians call their inspired writings. Like the first two volumes the author integrates the historical and the literary with the theological in order to highlight the meaning of each letter. Once again, the author has taken a difficult subject, made it easy reading, and filled it with challenging insights. This book is strongly recommended not just for Christians but for those who are interested in knowing what the first Christians taught and how they applied those teachings.

Book excerpt: In the book of Revelation, God unveils the world as it really is, identifying an unseen spiritual war and announcing a very real day of judgment. We need to be convinced that Jesus is reigning as the risen King. We need to have him speak to the situation in our churches. We need to see how God will pulverize wickedness, obliterate those who oppose him, and set up his kingdom. Revelation has exactly what we need. Useful for personal study, as well as for preaching and teaching (Hamilton even includes helpful charts and tables to highlight key themes and literary elements), the thirty-seven sermons in this volume have a clear structure: introduction, body, and conclusion. Hamilton successfully grabs the reader's attention, raises awareness of a real need, and states the main point of the sermon text. In addition to explaining the meaning of each passage, Hamilton connects the main ideas to applicable analogies and actionable points. Revelation is a prophecy of epic proportions and Hamilton invites readers to love God and his people by expositing this revelation of Jesus, and to say along with the apostle John, "Come, Lord Jesus." Part of the Preaching the Word series.

Book The Seven Letters to the Seven Churches in Revelation

Download or read book The Seven Letters to the Seven Churches in Revelation written by James Thomas Lee, Jr. and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-04-15 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Apostle John had been exiled to the isle of Patmos because of his stand for Christ. So on the Lord's Day, Jesus had come to him and had commanded him to write the words that appear in the book of Revelation. Revelation 1:10-11 says, "I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea." Each of the seven letters had followed a simple but consistent pattern. They had begun with a simple greeting that had stated specific characteristics of Jesus. Those characteristics had been indicated to the specific church based upon what the Lord through John would be saying to the church. Following that opening characteristic, Jesus had reported to each church an assessment of where they had been spiritually. He had then given them a prescription for fixing their problems. Lastly, He had concluded each letter by giving the people in each church a promise to those that HAVE overcome. In chapter one of this book, the author, date, and occasion for the writing of the book of Revelation will be given. What evidence exists to actually show that the Apostle John had written the book? The four most popular approaches for understanding the book of Revelation will also be discussed. Had the seven letters just been written to the seven churches or is there an expanded viewpoint about their applicability? In chapter two, a consideration of Proconsular Asia will be provided. That is the area where the seven churches had been located. So in looking at it, one can better understand when the seven churches had been established. One can also better understand the spiritual problems that had been prevalent in that region. In chapters three through nine, each of the seven letters will be carefully examined. Then chapter ten will present any final thoughts and conclusions that one might draw from this kind of study. As always the purpose of this book is to honor and glorify the Lord. He is the beginning and the end, the Alpha and the Omega. He is worthy of ALL honor and glory.

Book excerpt: “In Revelation 2:2, Jesus tells the church in Ephesus something intimate—Google Street View intimate. He says, ‘I know your works’ (Oida ta erga sou). Four words don’t seem like much, but in the Greek, it packs a punch.… Jesus chooses the Greek word oida, which expresses total, comprehensive knowledge. It is intimate knowledge that comes from being up close and personal. This knowledge isn’t hazy on the details. It doesn’t struggle to remember. It preserves the particulars. In the mind’s eye, everything is sharp and clear, like a well-taken photograph.” —Chris Palmer Letters from Jesus: Studies from the Seven Churches of Revelation explores Christ’s warnings to the seven most prominent churches in Asia Minor in the book of Revelation. These letters date back to 95 A.D., but they help us make a fascinating discovery about civilization: life hasn’t changed that much over the last two millennia. Author Chris Palmer illustrates the truths contained in the Letters from Jesus using modern, everyday examples. The host of the popular podcast Greek for the Week, he unpacks Greek words and phrases in these verses from Revelation with humor, joy, and biblical scholarship. Why study Greek, even just a little bit? As Chris explains, looking at the New Testament in the original language in which it was written can offer us some beautiful insights into God’s Word. “It’s like reading the Bible in high definition,” he says. Also, “studying God’s Word in the original language forces us to approach it with reverence and awe, humbling ourselves to obey what it says, whether it’s something we want to hear or not.”
