Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Mestizo Christianity' is the most comprehensive introduction to the work of the principle figures in U.S. Hispanic theology - Protestant as well as Catholic. Other anthologies exist, but 'Mestizo Christianity' provides the best and most representative writing by each of the fourteen first-generationÓ theologians in their areas of specialization. Since by every account the Latino/Hispanic church will continue to grow well into the twenty-first century, 'Mestizo Christianity' provides a grounding in an area of increasing theological and pastoral importance. Topics include affirming Hispanic culture and theological identity, methodology, popular religiosity, women's voices, social ethics, spirituality, and ecumenical perspectives. Also included is a brief biography of each featured author and a comprehensive bibliography of Hispanic theology, the only one of its kind. 'Mestizo Christianity' will be an indispensable resource for students, clergy, and pastoral agents.

Download or read book The Faith of the People written by Orlando O. Espín and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Popular Catholicism is one of the most distinctive elements of Latino culture, an essential dimension of any project of Latino theology. In The Faith of the People Orlando Espin presents the most concentrated and systematic reflection on this theme. Examining such traditions as devotion to the crucified Christ and to the Virgin of Guadalupe, Espin shows how Popular Catholicism offers a source for vital insight into such theological issues as the nature of God, the Trinity, Christology, and salvation. As Espin explains, it is a matter of taking seriously the expressions of faith of ordinary people - not simply as a sociological phenomenon or a "pastoral problem," but as a font of intuition, wisdom, and living revelation." "As Robert Goizueta observes in his Foreword, The Faith of the People has great significance for the church as a whole, as it struggles with the issues raised in an increasingly polycentric and multicultural time. The stubborn faith of Latino Catholics in the ultimate goodness of life, even in the midst of affliction, remains at the heart of Latino Popular Catholicism. This faith in God's gift not only to the U.S. Latino community but to the entire church and to all peoples."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Download or read book Freedom and Existence written by Matthew Aaron Tennant and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2023-08-07 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is theology a dead corpse or living organism? For Uruguayan Jesuit Juan Luis Segundo (1925-1996), theology is dynamic. Freedom and existence for central themes. Segundo believed that theology should be transformative in human lives. For a theology to be transformative, there must be a connection to existence. That is, it must be existential. Yet most scholars have overlooked this assumption in critical analyses of liberation theology. This prima facie connection to existence is distinguishable from existentialism as a school of philosophy. By showing the significant existential dimension to Segundo's theology, assessing his work and contribution to twentieth-century theology relates to freedom, ecumenism, the role of faith in society, and the relationship between faith and ideologies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joseph Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict XVI, has been the most visible member of the Catholic clergy in the world second only to Pope John Paul II. His status as the head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith made him one of the most discussed churchmen in recent history. On the occasion of Ratzingers's seventy-fifth birthday, his former students selected essays, lectures, letters, and conferences that Ratzinger has written in recent years- writing that they feel best represents his position on issues of theology, the modern world, secularism, non-Christian religious, and other key topics of the Catholic Church. This book, characterized by Ratzinger's concisely reasoned style, is an invaluable resource to those who wish to understand the modern Church and the thinking of Pope Benedict XVI, as well as a treasured volume for those who are students of Ratzinger's theology.

Download or read book Doctrina Metodista written by Dr. Ted A. Campbell and published by Abingdon Press. This book was released on 2012-08-01 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Wesley distinguished between essential doctrines on which agreement or consensus is critical and opinions about theology or church practices on which disagreement must be allowed. Though today few people join churches based on doctrinal commitments, once a person has joined a church it becomes important to know the historic teachings of that church's tradition. In Methodist Doctrine: The Essentials, Ted Campbell outlines historical doctrinal consensus in American Episcopal Methodist Churches in a comparative and ecumenical dialogue with the doctrinal inheritance of other major families of Christian tradition. In this way, the book shows both what Methodist churches historically teach in common with ecumenical Christianity and what is distinctive about the Methodist tradition in its various contemporary forms. Documents examined include The Twenty-Five Articles of Religion, The General Rules, Wesley's Standard Sermons and Explanatory Notes upon the New Testament, The Methodist Social Creed, and the Apostles' Creed.
