Download or read book Caring for our future written by Great Britain: Department of Health and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2012-07-11 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Care and support affects a large number of people: eight out of 10 people aged 65 will need some care and support in their later years; some people have impairments from birth or develop them during their working life; some 5 million people care for a friend or relative, some for more than 50 hours a week. The current system does not offer enough support until a crisis point is reached, the quality of care is variable and inconsistent, and the growing and ageing population is only going to increase the pressure. Consequently, two core principles lie at the heart of this White Paper. The first is that individuals, communities and Government should do everything possible to prevent, postpone and minimise people's need for formal care and support. The system should be built around the promotion of people's independence and well-being. The second principle is that people should be in control of their own care and support, with personal budgets and direct payments, backed by clear, comparable information and advice that will allow individuals and their carers to make the choices that are right for them. This paper sets out the principles and approach, with sections covering: strengthening support within communities; housing; better information and advice; assessment, eligibility and portability for people who use care services; carers' support; defining high-quality care; improving quality; keeping people safe; a better local care market; workforce; personalised care and support; integration and joined-up care.
Download or read book Draft Care and Support Bill written by Great Britain: Department of Health and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2012-07-11 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper is published alongside the Government white paper "Caring for our future: reforming care and support" (Cm. 8378, ISBN 9780101837828). The draft Bill takes forward the recommendations of the Law Commission report on adult social care (Law Com. 326, HC 941, session 2010-12, ISBN 9780102971682) which concluded that existing care and support legislation was outdated and confusing, making it difficult for people who need care and support, and carers, to know what they are entitled to and for local authorities to understand their responsibilities. The Bill will: modernise and consolidate the law, clarify entitlements; support broader needs of local communities; simplify the care and support system and processes. Key provisions include: statutory principles which embed the promotion of individual well-being; clear legal entitlements; everyone, including carers, should have a personal budget as part of their care and support plan; duties to ensure care and support continues when a person moves to a different local authority area; a new statutory framework for adult safeguarding. Others sections cover the establishment of Health Education England and the Health Research Authority, and allow for the abolition (subject to consultation) of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority and Human Tissue Authority.
Download or read book Autumn statement 2011 written by Great Britain. Treasury and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2011-11-29 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Autumn Statement sets out the Government's actions in three areas: protecting the economy; building a stronger economy for the future; and fairness. This document details plans for: public spending in 2015-16 and 2016-17; raising state pension age to 67 between 2026 and 2028; setting public sector pay awards at an average of one per cent for each of the two years after current pay freeze ends; £21 billion credit easing measures to support smaller and mid-sized businesses. To build a stronger economy, the Government is funding £6.3 billion of additional infrastructure spending, £1 billion of private sector investment in regulated industries will be supported by Government guarantee, and the Regional Growth Fund for England will be increased by £1 billion. Other measures on credit easing and enterprise include: up to £20 billion National Loan guarantee Scheme; investigation of alternatives to tribunal hearings; possible changes to collective redundancy processes; two proposals for radical reform of employment law; a Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme offering 50 per cent income tax relief on investments. Education will see an extra £600 million to fund 100 more free schools, and £600 million for local authorities with the greatest demographic pressures. Housing support includes a new build indemnity scheme to increase the supply of affordable mortgage finance and a revised right to buy scheme. Fairness measures cover fuel duty, rail fares, a Youth Contract worth £940 million, and extending the offer of 15 hours free education and care a week for disadvantaged two year olds.

This book was released on 2012-09-11 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Government established the Regional Growth Fund in June 2010 to support projects with the potential to deliver economic growth and additional, sustainable private-sector jobs, particularly in areas that rely more on the public sector for employment. £1.4 billion was allocated during 2011. The Permanent Secretary for the Department for Communities and Local Government has overall accountability and the Secretary of State for Business Innovation and Skills has ministerial accountability. A further £1 billion has been made available for future rounds, for which accountability is likely to be shared between the Accounting Officers of the CLG and BIS. The Committee was highly disappointed to find that so few final approvals had been given and so few projects had actually started. Of the £470 million so far paid out by Government, £364 million has been parked with intermediary bodies via endowments and a further £57 million paid to other intermediaries. Only £60 million has been spent on front-line projects. As a result only 5,200 jobs can be claimed as having been created or safeguarded against targets of 36,800 over the lifetime of these projects. The Fund's threshold for acceptable value for money was far too low. Nor was it clear that the departments took sufficient account of local expertise in deciding which projects would most benefit particular areas. Despite decades of experience in delivering similar programmes, BIS and CLG still do not know what works best in fostering private sector growth. Witnesses had not prepared plans on how they will evaluate whether the Fund actually delivers the jobs and growth predicted

This book was released on 2012-11-30 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Air travel is fundamental to family and economic life in Northern Ireland. To facilitate the rebalancing of the economy it is vital the air links to Great Britain, mainland Europe and the rest of the world are robust. The Committee identified in this report several hurdles to overcome. Air Passenger Duty (APD)-despite the APD on direct long-haul flights being reduced to zero, this does not assist the 98.5 per cent of passengers who travel from NI airports on short haul flights. Ways to reduce or, preferably, abolish APD on all flights into NI from GB and on all direct flights from Northern Ireland to any destination should be explored.Connectivity-air links to hub airports, particularly Heathrow, must be, at least, maintained at the current level, and further routes should be actively sought. Airports Commission review-the review is being carried out by the Airports Commission into options to maintain the UK's status as an international hub for aviation. As this report is not due until 2015 and the delay as to the future airport configuration and capacity in the South East of England is causing concern among the business community in Northern Ireland. The Committee urged the Government to expedite the review and its decision, as soon as possible given its importance to Northern Ireland's international connectivity. Internal access to Northern Ireland's airports-road and rail links to all three of NI'sairports must be improved. Visas-there should be introduced between the UK and Irish Government, a shared visit visa for the UK and the Republic of Ireland, as the current cost of two visas deters both business and leisure travellers from visiting both jurisdictions on a single visit.

This book was released on 2017-04-27 with total page 583 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the United States, some populations suffer from far greater disparities in health than others. Those disparities are caused not only by fundamental differences in health status across segments of the population, but also because of inequities in factors that impact health status, so-called determinants of health. Only part of an individual's health status depends on his or her behavior and choice; community-wide problems like poverty, unemployment, poor education, inadequate housing, poor public transportation, interpersonal violence, and decaying neighborhoods also contribute to health inequities, as well as the historic and ongoing interplay of structures, policies, and norms that shape lives. When these factors are not optimal in a community, it does not mean they are intractable: such inequities can be mitigated by social policies that can shape health in powerful ways. Communities in Action: Pathways to Health Equity seeks to delineate the causes of and the solutions to health inequities in the United States. This report focuses on what communities can do to promote health equity, what actions are needed by the many and varied stakeholders that are part of communities or support them, as well as the root causes and structural barriers that need to be overcome.
