Download or read book Retrospective Radiographic Evaluation of the Marginal Bone Level Changes Around Dental Implants in Posterior Regions of the Maxillary Bone written by Emil Sebastian Pais and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This retrospective research was performed to evaluate the marginal bone level changes around dental implants with various types of prosthetic restorations in the posterior regions of the maxillary bone that were placed by clinicians at an academic institution. Intraoral radiographs were used to evaluate the peri-implant bone level changes. The results demonstrated that there were significant differences between implants restored by platform-switching vs. platform-matching on the mesial and distal at the prosthetic restoration and the 1-year visits, and between implants in patients with diabetes vs. non-diabetes on the distal at the 1-year visit. This study complemented the present scarce literature on this topic through the identification of patient-related and implant-related characteristics that may contribute to peri-implant bone loss.

Book excerpt: Title : Retrospective study of marginal bone loss around two implants systems conducted by radiographic evaluation Type of Presentation Poster display V Author : Hee-Won Jang, Jeong-Kyung Kang, Young-Il Jang Abstract: Purpose : The aim of this study was to analyze the amount of marginal bone loss(MBL) around implants to establish the difference between RBM and SLA surface. Background : This study present the amount and differences of MBL in two implants which have different surface treatment. Materials and Methods : one hundred and twenty implants were placed in the posterior maxilla and mandible in sixty patients. Data were collected in terms of age, implant length, width and etcClinical and radiographic examinations were performed during all procedure by one dentist. MBL was evaluated on the base of three intervals i.e. at the time of loading(baseline), and annually up to one year and 3 years. One dentist placed implants and fabricated restorations during the procedure. The type of them were gold. All of restorations were crowns. They were not removable restorations. Measurements to the nearest 0.1mm were taken at the mesial and distal site, and the average values were calculated for each implant. Two way-ANOVA test was used to verify the significance of the mean MBL in RBM and SLA surface, which present internal connection, root shape, micro-thread(upper three thread). It was Korean domestic brand which was similar to Astra implant regarding appearance. Results : A population of this study was consisted of all men with average age of 68 years. Five implants of total implants failed after one month. 1. There was statistically significant difference between two implant systems at the baseline measurements(0 year) (RBM 0.479 mm vs. SLA 0.132 mm). 2. There was statistically significant difference at 1 year measurements (RBM 0.801 mm vs. SLA 0.424 mm). 3. There was statistically significant difference at 3 year measurements (RBM 1.672 mm vs. SLA 0.844 mm). 4. As the diameter became wider, the MBL of RBM was significant statistically. The MBL of SLA was not. 5. As the length became longer, the MBL of RBM was significant statistically. The MBL of SLA was not. Conclusion : Both implants were clinically acceptable. With the limitations of this study SLA surface implant showed better radiographic and clinical record than RBM surface. Key words : implants, marginal bone loss, SLA, RBM.

Book Wide Diameter Implants for Single Tooth Restorations in the Molar Region A Retrospective Study

Download or read book Wide Diameter Implants for Single Tooth Restorations in the Molar Region A Retrospective Study written by Abitbol Jeremy and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Immediate placement and loading of dental implants in fresh extraction sites are demanding situations for achieving high primary stabilty and low bone resorption. These challenges are particularly important in the molar region. To meet the needs of patients requiring tooth replacement in such indications, wide diameter variable-thread tapered implants were developed. Further trials are necessary to evaluate the performance of wide diameter implants in every day clinical practice. The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of wide diameter variable-thread tapered implants primarily placed in fresh extraction sites in the molar region. Marginal bone level change, implant survival, and implant stability were evaluated. This is a retrospective, non-interventional, analysis of de-identified data from patients treated in one center. Patients who received at least one wide diameter variable-thread tapered implant (NobelActive WP, Nobel Biocare) in the molar region between April and October 2014 were included. Patients with bone defects were considered unsuitable to receive implants immediately. Grafting was performed in all fresh extraction sites using anorganic bovine bone matrix. No covering membranes were used. A provisional restoration was placed immediately after implant insertion when primary implant stability (insertion torque) was higher or equal to 35 Ncm. At last follow-up, implant stability was assessed by rocking and tapping and radiographs were taken as part of routine treatment. Descriptive statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 24 (IBM, USA).Ten wide diameter (5.5 mm) variable-thread tapered implants (length 7-13 mm) were placed in the mandibular molar region of 9 patients (6 female, 3 male). The mean age of patients was 63.1 years (range 34-85 years). 90% of implants were place in the septum of fresh extaction sites and one was placed in a previously healed site. Nine implants, with insertion torques u226535 Ncm, were immediately loaded (

Book A Retrospective Analysis of Factors Influencing Primary Stability of Dental Implant in Posterior Edentulous Maxilla

Download or read book A Retrospective Analysis of Factors Influencing Primary Stability of Dental Implant in Posterior Edentulous Maxilla written by Boosana Kaboosaya and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Background: Implant stability has been recognized as an essential factor link to osseointegration and predicts the survival rate of dental implants. The resonance frequency analysis (RFA) is a noninvasive device providing results in the form of the implant stability quotient (ISQ). The primary stability is also influenced by numerous factors such as surgical technique, implant morphology as well as bone quality and quantity. In the posterior maxilla, the sparse bone density leads to low primary stability. Aim: This retrospective study aims to analyze the factors that influenced the primary stability of dental implant of posterior maxilla.Material and methods: Patients records of treatment performed between January 2014 to December 2018 were reviewed for primary implant stability. Patients who had Straumannu00ae implants at posterior maxilla and exhibited RFA both buccal and mesial area immediate implant placement were included. The following variables were determined; patient age, gender, implantation region, timing of implant placement after tooth extraction (immediate placement, u2264 4 months after extraction, > 4 months after extraction), implant geometry (diameter and length), and adjunctive procedures during implantation (guided bone regeneration and transcrestal osteotomy). The RFA value was used The Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test to determine normal distribution. The Chi-Square Test was applied to compare the relationship between qualitative variables and the Kruskalu2013Wallis test was used to compare the mean. The Pearson correlation coefficient was used to determine correlation. Results: Seventy implants in 53 patients (male 19, female 34) were found. The mean age of this sample size is 59.04uf0b11.41 years old. The mean value of RFA of the buccal area is 65.76uf0b11.44 and the mean of RFA of mesial area 66.59uf0b11.55. The RFA value of the buccal and mesial area was significant correlate (p

Book Retrospective Study of 8 mm Bone Level SLA surfaced Implants with 1 to 2 year Follow up

Download or read book Retrospective Study of 8 mm Bone Level SLA surfaced Implants with 1 to 2 year Follow up written by Duarte Nuno Silva and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Background: Short implants have been described as a treatment option to avoid complementary surgical procedures in cases of limited bone height. In order to increase the biomechanical properties of short implants, implant manufacturers have developed different implant surfaces and macroscopic topographies. More recently, bone level short dental implants with SLA surfaces have been launched into the market, but still there is a lack of information regarding medium-long-term survival rates.Aim: Retrospective study to evaluate the medium-term survival rates of 8-mm length bone level SLA-surfaced implants with at least 1-year follow-up.Methods and Materials: This single center retrospective study was based on the clinical records of patients who underwent dental implant therapy with Straumann Bone Level Tapered 8mm (BLT8) implants between January 2017 and April 2018 and complied with the mandatory follow-up visits. All patients were treated by a skilled surgeon with BLT8 implants using a standardized protocol. Data regarding maxillary location, regeneration procedure, date of surgery, date and time of loading, final follow- up appointment as well as patient rehabilitation (single unit, partial, total) were obtained following ethics committee approval.Early failure was defined as an implant that failed to integrate and was removed before 6 or 3 months for implants placed with and without regenerative procedures, respectively. Late failure was defined as implant removal with prosthetic loading following the osteointegration period. Results: A total of 214 BLT8 implants were inserted in 99 patients. 115 (53.7%) implants had a regular diameter of 4.1mm and 99 (46.3%) a narrow diameter of 3.3mm. The posterior mandible (36.0%) and the posterior maxilla (29.9%) were the most frequent locations, as opposed to the anterior mandible, which presented the lowest percentage of short implants placed (13.1%).Immediate loading was performed in 75 (35.0%) implants and mostly used as posterior implants in full arch rehabilitations. 212 implants received prosthetic load, of which 86.0% were over splinted implants and 14.0% over single unit implants.214 implants were evaluated for early failure and 212 for late failure. Of those, one implant failed in each evaluated period, which resulted in a survival rate of 99.5% for early and late failure with no statistical differences between them (p>0.05). Conclusions and Clinical Implications: Within the limitations of this study the Bone Level SLA-surfaced 8 mm length implants showed high survival rates within the evaluated follow up period, comparable to those described in the literature for the standard-length implants. Further follow-up studies with larger samples and longer follow-ups are required to identify factors that could interfere in the survival and success rates of short dental implants.
