Book Retooling for an Aging America

Download or read book Retooling for an Aging America written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2008-09-27 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the first of the nation's 78 million baby boomers begin reaching age 65 in 2011, they will face a health care workforce that is too small and woefully unprepared to meet their specific health needs. Retooling for an Aging America calls for bold initiatives starting immediately to train all health care providers in the basics of geriatric care and to prepare family members and other informal caregivers, who currently receive little or no training in how to tend to their aging loved ones. The book also recommends that Medicare, Medicaid, and other health plans pay higher rates to boost recruitment and retention of geriatric specialists and care aides. Educators and health professional groups can use Retooling for an Aging America to institute or increase formal education and training in geriatrics. Consumer groups can use the book to advocate for improving the care for older adults. Health care professional and occupational groups can use it to improve the quality of health care jobs.

Book America 2 0 Retooling America

Download or read book America 2 0 Retooling America written by David Levien and published by Liberty Hill Publishing. This book was released on 2019-09-24 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book represents strong support for America's great leader, President Trump. It espouses compassion, honesty, and fairness. It supports the American people against assaults from elitist plutocrats-Democrats and some establishment Republicans. President Trump is rapidly improving the lot of all Americans with those in the heartland, minorities, and previously marginalized improving rapidly. Every hockey team needs an enforcer and luckily President Trump has his share. Assaults on America come from "fat cat" politicians living in luxurious communities and content when manufacturing jobs were sucked out of America, impoverishing many Americans. These "fat cat" oligarchs ignore a subset of inner city minorities who live in squalor, vulnerable to gang violence, condemned to failing schools and hopelessness. Democrats let our brave war fighters be maimed and killed due to profoundly unfair rules of engagement, imposed on our warriors by the Obama administration. Our police were murdered after being vilified by Democrat politicians and a negligent press. President Trump's policies are reversing this downhill spiral. He helped our military rapidly destroy Isis's califate which grew like a cancer under Obama's dithering demeanor. We can return to civility and aim for the peaceable kingdom when assaults on our President and our Nation cease. Dr. David Levien is a hard-working American who wrote this book for all honest Americans. He wrote it to protect a great patriot and humanitarian, President Trump, who is rapidly improving the lot of people in the heartland and people in forgotten neighborhoods that have been exploited by Democrats, neighborhoods allowed to decay by the Democrat insiders. Dave is a healer, an author, an educator, an executive, and board member. He is eager to be conciliatory which will only be possible when the Democrat oligarchs forsake corruption and venality.

But they need to do more - by generating value through savvy decisions about talent. HR leaders typically assume that, to make such decisions, they must develop sophisticated analytical tools from scratch. Even then, the resulting tools often fail to engage their peers. In Retooling HR, John Boudreau shows how HR leaders can break this cycle - by adapting powerful analytical tools already used by other functions to the unique challenges of talent management. Drawing on his research and examples from companies including Google, Disney, IBM, and Microsoft, Boudreau explains six proven business tools leaders already use. And he shows how HR can apply these tools to talent management. Examples include: · Using engineering tolerances to find pivot points that job descriptions miss · Using inventory and supply-chain analytics to ensure a ready supply of the right talent · Applying logistics tools to optimize succession planning and leadership development · Adapting consumer research tools to find untapped value in total rewards Retooling HR builds on Boudreau's bestselling book Beyond HR, which traces HR's evolution as a decision science. For HR professionals seeking to sharpen their decision-making prowess, this provocative new book blazes an innovative new path.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Donald Trump, the Arab Spring, Brexit: digital media have provided political actors and citizens with new tools to engage in politics. These tools are now routinely used by activists, candidates, non-governmental organizations, and parties to inform, mobilize, and persuade people. But what are the effects of this retooling of politics? Do digital media empower the powerless or are they breaking democracy? Have these new tools and practices fundamentally changed politics or is their impact just a matter of degree? This clear-eyed guide steps back from hyperbolic hopes and fears to offer a balanced account of what aspects of politics are being shaped by digital media and what remains unchanged. The authors discuss data-driven politics, the flow and reach of political information, the effects of communication interventions through digital tools, their use by citizens in coordinating political action, and what their impact is on political organizations and on democracy at large.

Download or read book That Used to Be Us written by Thomas L. Friedman and published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. This book was released on 2011-09-05 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: America is in trouble. We face four major challenges on which our future depends, and we are failing to meet them—and if we delay any longer, soon it will be too late for us to pass along the American dream to future generations. In That Used to Be Us, Thomas L. Friedman, one of our most influential columnists, and Michael Mandelbaum, one of our leading foreign policy thinkers, offer both a wake-up call and a call to collective action. They analyze the four challenges we face—globalization, the revolution in information technology, the nation's chronic deficits, and our pattern of excessive energy consumption—and spell out what we need to do now to sustain the American dream and preserve American power in the world. They explain how the end of the Cold War blinded the nation to the need to address these issues seriously, and how China's educational successes, industrial might, and technological prowess remind us of the ways in which "that used to be us." They explain how the paralysis of our political system and the erosion of key American values have made it impossible for us to carry out the policies the country urgently needs. And yet Friedman and Mandelbaum believe that the recovery of American greatness is within reach. They show how America's history, when properly understood, offers a five-part formula for prosperity that will enable us to cope successfully with the challenges we face. They offer vivid profiles of individuals who have not lost sight of the American habits of bold thought and dramatic action. They propose a clear way out of the trap into which the country has fallen, a way that includes the rediscovery of some of our most vital traditions and the creation of a new thirdparty movement to galvanize the country. That Used to Be Us is both a searching exploration of the American condition today and a rousing manifesto for American renewal.
