Book Response of Soybean to Sulphur and Boron Nutrition

Download or read book Response of Soybean to Sulphur and Boron Nutrition written by Limaakum T. Longkumer and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In India, soybean (Glycine max) has established one of the major oilseed crops besides being pulse crop. In the North East India, it is grown on slopes, jhum lands, terraces and plains. In spite of high yield potential, it productivity is much less than the world average. Cultivation of soybean on marginal land combined with sub optimal nutrients supply is the major hurdle in realising potential productivity. Sulphur is required for the synthesis of sulphur-containing amino-acids cystine, cystein and methionine which are essential components of protein. Soybean is very sensitive to boron deficiency as well. It requires an adequate supply of boron, especially during flowering and seed development. Its deficiency may cause restriction of water absorption, carbohydrate metabolism and even sterility. Recently the importance of boron has also been recognized in the development of embryo and synthesis of protein. Boron deficiency is known to inhibit economic yield. Soybean cultivation on acidic soils of northeast India is on rise but both of these vital nutrients are widely deficient in the region due to extreme acidity, excessive rainfall and very low use of mineral fertilizers.

Book Response of Soybean to Sulphur and Molybdenum Fertilization

Download or read book Response of Soybean to Sulphur and Molybdenum Fertilization written by Imlinukshi Kichu and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soybean (Glycine max) is an important pulse crop besides being oilseed crop. It contains 5% lysine, which is deficient in most cereals and isoflavones, which helps in preventing heart diseases and cancer. In India soybean has established one of the major oilseed crops. In spite of high yield potential, it productivity is much less in India than the world average. The north-eastern region of India it is grown on slopes, jhum lands, terraces and plains. Cultivation of soybean on marginal land combined with sub optimal nutrients supply is the major hurdle in realising potential productivity. Sulphur is recognized as the fourth major nutrient in the order of importance to plant nutrition. It is required for the synthesis of sulphur-containing amino-acids cystine, cystein and methionine which are essential components of protein. Sulphur helps in nitrate reduction and assimilation of N by root nodule bacteria besides improving the yield. Molybdenum is another important nutrient for legumes, as it is essential for the activity of the enzyme nitrogenase, which helps in nitrogen fixation. It is also required for the reduction of nitrates for protein synthesis in all plants.

Download or read book Sulphur in Plants written by Y.P. Abrol and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sulphur (S) plays a pivotal role in various plant growth and development processes being a constituent of sulphur-containing amino acids, cysteine and methionine, and other metabolites viz., glutathione and phytochelatins, co-factor of enzymes which contribute to stress repair and amelioration of heavy metal toxicity. Besides, a number of S-containing components are biologically active and, thus, a source for use as medicinal value. The basic global issue before the agricultural scientist and world community is to evolve cultivars and develop methodologies for efficient use of inputs to enhance agricultural productivity. This is particularly true of the developing countries which are going to see maximum rise in population with changing food demands and declining availability of land. Amongst the inputs, nutrients play a crucial role. The major requirement is for N, P and K followed by several micro-nutrients. In this context reports of world-wide S deficiency in the agricultural systems are relevant. The reasons are many. Broadly speaking reduction inS emission, use of S-free N, P and K fertilizers and higher biomass production contributed the maximum. Despite the need for sulphur as an essential plant nutrient and the substantial returns expected from its use, very little attention has been given to fill the gap between supply and demand of S.

Book Phosphorus and Sulphur Fertilizer for Summer Soybean

Download or read book Phosphorus and Sulphur Fertilizer for Summer Soybean written by Heeralal Yadav and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-03 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill] is considered to be a miracle crop because of its dual qualities viz., high protein content and oil. These two parameters in one crop have thus gained considerable importance in the agricultural economy of the World. It has high yield potential, wide adaptability, and short duration, very high nutritional value, having a vast multiplicity of uses as food and industrial products. Moreover, being a legume, the crop fix large amount of atmospheric nitrogen in soil. Phosphorus and sulphur play impotent role in crop production. Phosphorus for the soybean crop has long been recognized. Phosphorus is a key element in process of photosynthesis, root nodulation and for growth, yield and quality. Thus optimum supply of P is necessary for enhance the rate of protein synthesis in pulse crops. It increased seed yield and protein content of soybean. Sulphur as secondary plant nutrient is becoming increasingly important in agriculture as it is the "Master Nutrient" for all oilseed crops and pulses and is rightly being called the "Forth Major Plant Nutrient," along with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.

Book Sustainable Agriculture Reviews

Download or read book Sustainable Agriculture Reviews written by Eric Lichtfouse and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-02-12 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sustainable agriculture is a rapidly growing field aiming at producing food and energy in a sustainable way for humans and their children. Sustainable agriculture is a discipline that addresses current issues such as climate change, increasing food and fuel prices, poor-nation starvation, rich-nation obesity, water pollution, soil erosion, fertility loss, pest control, and biodiversity depletion. Novel solutions are proposed based on integrated knowledge from sciences as diverse as agronomy, soil science, molecular biology, chemistry, toxicology, ecology, economy, philosophy and social sciences. Because actual society issues are now intertwined, global, and fast-developing, sustainable agriculture will bring solutions to build a safer world. This book series gathers review articles that analyze current agricultural issues and knowledge, then propose alternative solutions. It will therefore help all scientists, decision-makers, professors, farmers and politicians who wish to build a safe agriculture, energy and food system for future generations.
