Book Equality Freedom and Religion

Download or read book Equality Freedom and Religion written by Roger Trigg and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2012-01-05 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is religious freedom being curtailed in pursuit of equality, and the outlawing of discrimination? Is enough effort made to accommodate those motivated by a religious conscience? All rights matter but at times the right to put religious beliefs into practice increasingly takes second place in the law of different countries to the pursuit of other social priorities. The right to freedom of belief and to manifest belief is written into all human rights charters. In the United States religious freedom is sometimes seen as 'the first freedom'. Yet increasingly in many jurisdictions in Europe and North America, religious freedom can all too easily be 'trumped' by other rights. Roger Trigg looks at the assumptions that lie behind the subordination of religious liberty to other social concerns, especially the pursuit of equality. He gives examples from different Western countries of a steady erosion of freedom of religion. The protection of freedom of worship is often seen as sufficient, and religious practices are separated from the beliefs which inspire them. So far from religion in general, and Christianity in particular, providing a foundation for our beliefs in human dignity and human rights, religion is all too often seen as threat and a source of conflict, to be controlled at all costs. The challenge is whether any freedom can preserved for long, if the basic human right to freedom of religious belief and practice is dismissed as of little account, with no attempt to provide any reasonable accommodation. Given the central role of religion in human life, unnecessary limitations on its expression are attacks on human freedom itself.

Download or read book How the Nations Rage written by Jonathan Leeman and published by HarperChristian + ORM. This book was released on 2018-04-03 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can the church move forward in unity amid such political strife and cultural contention? As Christians, we’ve felt pushed to the outskirts of national public life, yet even within our congregations we are divided about how to respond. Some want to strengthen the evangelical voting bloc. Others focus on social justice causes, and still others would abandon the public square altogether. What do we do when brothers and sisters in Christ sit next to each other in the pews but feel divided and angry? Is there a way forward? In How the Nations Rage, political theology scholar and pastor Jonathan Leeman challenges Christians from across the spectrum to hit the restart button by shifting our focus from redeeming the nation to living as a nation already redeemed rejecting the false allure of building heaven on earth while living faithfully as citizens of a heavenly kingdom letting Jesus’ teaching shape our public engagement as we love our neighbors and seek justice When we identify with Christ more than a political party or social grouping, we can return to the church’s unchanging political task: to become the salt and light Jesus calls us to be and offer the hope of his kingdom to the nations.

Book The Sales Planner

Download or read book The Sales Planner written by June Schaufus and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-03-24 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Assess. Prioritize. Execute. Always. Life is a dichotomy of routine and spontaneity. The Sales Planner will be a part of your organizational journey with the reward of finding routine and spontaneity. Routines give a sense of stability to work through life's every process with intention. Being organized will give you clarity during the open spaces to find much-needed joy in the pauses and nurture the ability to masterfully deal with beautiful (and not-so-beautiful) surprises that come up more often than we expect. How exactly do you create a blend of these two paradoxical concepts? You plan for both. As you begin to stack up good habits around the same time of the day, you will be able to gain muscle memory to do them with much less effort. After establishing well-stacked habits, your body and mind will no longer question the flow. One thing will naturally come after the next, and your energy will be focused on the critically important. There's a caveat. Habit flows can be interrupted by drastic situational changes (e.g. a pandemic, job transitions, etc.). Having a reliable planner will help you keep your focus on what matters--your life mission, goals, and continuous growth to get back into a rhythm that works for you. Preparation is just as important as execution. Over the last decade, the biggest sales wins I've been a part of and witnessed did not happen by accident. They involved a whole lot of skill around assessing, prioritizing, and executing a highly disciplined process sprinkled with a little bit of 'right time, right place'. I have used many planners and have had to re-format them to fit my sales goals aligned with what I value. Eventually, I resorted to printing and spring-binding my own. One day, I thought publishing my planner may be an easier solution. I can share a resource that helped me win multi-million dollar deals and save myself trips to Office Depot. The Sales Planner is intended for all intentional sellers and entrepreneurs striving to prepare and execute well. It's a tool that will help synchronize strategy with the tactical day-to-day tasks while keeping one's life values front and center. Plan well! Close well! Lean in!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It’s time to fight back! This is the true story of one man’s continuing fight for a world free of religious persecution. Majed El Shafie was arrested, tortured, and sentenced to die after he converted from Islam to Christianity. His dramatic story, and those of others worldwide who are suffering persecution, are told in shocking, yet sensitive detail. Especially startling is the true story of rescuing a very young Pakistani girl who experienced horrific sexual abuse—because her family would not convert to Islam. Although hard to imagine and even harder to accept, this important truth about religious persecution is blatantly exposed. Millions of families are praying for help. They are suffering daily in China, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, and many other countries—solely because of their beliefs. Freedom Fighter is Reverend El Shafie’s outreach—it follows his heroic work over a four-year period as he traveled to Pakistan and Afghanistan to investigate claims of abuse, persecution, and slavery and to speak truth to governments that neglect and violate the human rights of their citizens. This fight involves all believers—please help.

Mercy in Action explores Pope Francis’s efforts to renewCatholic social teaching—the guidance the church offers on matters that pertain to social justice in the world. The book examines what Pope Francis has said, done, and written on six critical social issues today—economic inequality, worker justice, preserving the environment, healthy family life, the plight of refugees, and peacemaking. The book also highlights both continuity and change in Catholic social teaching. Author Thomas Massaro illustrates how on each social issue—from expressing solidarity with unemployed workers to writing an encyclical addressing environmental degradation and climate change—Pope Francis has worked to update the church’s message of social justice and mercy.

Book Nyerere and Africa

Download or read book Nyerere and Africa written by Godfrey Mwakikagile and published by New Africa Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 740 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the fourth edition of 'Nyerere and Africa: End of an Era. It is also the largest and includes new material not found in previous editions. The work is a comprehensive study of the political career of President Julius Nyerere spanning half a century. The author takes a critical look at Nyerere's policies and influence in the domestic and international arenas for an objective evaluation of the life and times of one of the most influential leaders in the twentieth century. The major role he played in the liberation of southern Africa is just one of the subjects addressed by the author. He also provides insights into Nyerere's personality from some of the people who knew him best. Included in the book are interviews with some of the people who knew Nyerere since his childhood. Some of them were his teachers. And they outlived him. Others were his schoolmates and colleagues in government and when he was a teacher. And some of them were his students. Also included are interviews with some of his family members. This is an essential study of post-colonial Africa. It is also a study in political leadership and Cold War politics in the African context, among many other subjects addressed in the book which should serve as a reference text for scholars and laymen alike interested in Africa and the Third World in general.
