Book Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing

Download or read book Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing written by Desmond Cormack and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing: Theory and practice was conceived as a result of three major premises which, in the view of the editors, relate to the practice of psychiatric and mental health nursing. First, that high-quality psychiatric and mental health nursing can be practised only if it is under pinned by appropriate nursing theory. Secondly, that there exists a body of theory which can and should be applied to psychiatric and mental health nursing. Thirdly, that there is a need for a text which will assist teachers, students and clinicians to apply available nursing and borrowed theory to clinical practice. The general aim of this book is to introduce nursing students to a theory based approach to caring for people with psychiatric and mental health problems. The phrase psychiatric and mental health problems indicates that the text relates to clients with a psychiatric diagnosis, and also to those who have mental health problems but who do not necessarily have such a diagnosis. The client group to which the material in this text applies will include those who are, or have been, hospitalized and those in the community who have not been, and may never be, hospitalized. The intended readership is all students of psychiatric and mental health nursing issues, for example basic and post-basic nurses, and their teachers.

This book was released on 2015-03-02 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Did you ever ask whether music makes people smart, why a Parkinson patient's gait is improved with marching tunes, and whether Robert Schumann was suffering from schizophrenia or Alzheimer's disease? This broad but comprehensive book deals with history and new discoveries about music and the brain. It provides a multi-disciplinary overview on music processing, its effects on brain plasticity, and the healing power of music in neurological and psychiatric disorders. In this context, the disorders the plagued famous musicians and how they affected both performance and composition are critically discussed, and music as medicine, as well as music as a potential health hazard are examined. Among the other topics covered are: how music fit into early conceptions of localization of function in the brain, the cultural roots of music in evolution, and the important roles played by music in societies and educational systems. Topic: Music is interesting to almost everybody Orientation: This book looks at music and the brain both historically and in the light of the latest research findings Comprehensiveness: This is the largest and most comprehensive volume on "music and neurology" ever written! Quality of authors: This volume is written by a unique group of real world experts representing a variety of fields, ranging from history of science and medicine to neurology and musicology

Book Human Security

    Book Details:
  • Author : W.E. Blatz
  • Publisher : University of Toronto Press
  • Release : 1966-12-15
  • ISBN : 1442633816
  • Pages : 214 pages

Download or read book Human Security written by W.E. Blatz and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 1966-12-15 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During his lifetime, W.E. Blatz was so much occupied with the development of the University of Toronto’s Institute of Child Study that he was able to devote little time to writing. This is his first book to appear in twenty-one years, and his first complete exposition of his famous Theory of Security. The Theory of Security is radically different from the theories promulgated by Freudian psychologists. Whereas Freudian personality theory is based on the notion of “unconscious,” an entity that is only indirectly observable, the Theory of Security derives from the observation of the conscious state in all its manifestations. Dr. Blatz thus makes use of both empirical observations and the results of introspection, and, as might be expected, some of his conclusions run counter to those reached in much current psychological discussion. But proof of the forcible influence of the theory and its author may be found in the impressive number of books and articles already published by Dr. Blatz’s associates at the Institute of Child Study, applying the theory to the practical problems of psychological observation and therapy. It is fitting that the man whose work has generated so much fruitful research by others in this field should at last have set down in book form the fundamental principles that guided them.

Book Merriam Webster s Rhyming Dictionary

Download or read book Merriam Webster s Rhyming Dictionary written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This new edition of Merriam-Webster's Rhyming Dictionary contains over 71,000 rhyming words, about 16,000 more than the first edition. The additions naturally include words that have come into common use since the earlier book's publication -- words such as busk, blog, out-there, dreadlocked, fearmonger, and jaw-dropper. But most of the book's additions are not actually new to the language. For the first time, most of the two-, three-, four-, and five-word entries found in Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary have been given their own place in this volume's lists of rhyming words."--Preface.
