Book Advances in Passive Microwave Remote Sensing of Oceans

Download or read book Advances in Passive Microwave Remote Sensing of Oceans written by Victor Raizer and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-03-27 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book demonstrates the capabilities of passive microwave technique for enhanced observations of ocean features, including the detection of (sub)surface events and/or disturbances while laying out the benefits and boundaries of these methods. It represents not only an introduction and complete description of the main principles of ocean microwave radiometry and imagery, but also provides guidance for further experimental studies. Furthermore, it expands the analysis of remote sensing methods, models, and techniques and focuses on a high-resolution multiband imaging observation concept. Such an advanced approach provides readers with a new level of geophysical information and data acquisition granting the opportunity to improve their expertise on advanced microwave technology, now an indispensable tool for diagnostics of ocean phenomena and disturbances.

Book The Interaction of Ocean Waves and Wind

Download or read book The Interaction of Ocean Waves and Wind written by Peter Janssen and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2004-10-28 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was published in 2004. The Interaction of Ocean Waves and Wind describes in detail the two-way interaction between wind and ocean waves and shows how ocean waves affect weather forecasting on timescales of 5 to 90 days. Winds generate ocean waves, but at the same time airflow is modified due to the loss of energy and momentum to the waves; thus, momentum loss from the atmosphere to the ocean depends on the state of the waves. This volume discusses ocean wave evolution according to the energy balance equation. An extensive overview of nonlinear transfer is given, and as a by-product the role of four-wave interactions in the generation of extreme events, such as freak waves, is discussed. Effects on ocean circulation are described. Coupled ocean-wave, atmosphere modelling gives improved weather and wave forecasts. This volume will interest ocean wave modellers, physicists and applied mathematicians, and engineers interested in shipping and coastal protection.

Download or read book Theory of Diffraction written by I︠U︡riĭ Aleksandrovich Kravt︠s︡ov and published by Alpha Science Series on Wave P. This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book outlines the asymptotic methods in the theory of diffraction, which manifest their strong heuristic nature, including the geometrical theory of diffraction by J.B. Keller, the physical theory of diffraction by P.Ya. Ufimtsev, the parabolic wave-equation method by Leontovich and Fock, which forms the basis for quasi-optics, the complex geometrical optics as well as the Maslov's, Kravtsov-Ludwig's and Orlov's asymptotic methods for a caustic-wave-fields description. The book is addressed to engineers, applied physicists and students, who need a compact, without complicated mathematics, comprehensive outline of the most effective methods of diffraction theory, capable of describing the lion's share of applied problems.

Book The Interaction of Wind Waves and Internal Waves Theoretical Analysis

Download or read book The Interaction of Wind Waves and Internal Waves Theoretical Analysis written by Defence Research Establishment Pacific and published by Defence Research Establishment Pacific. This book was released on 1975 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A theoretical description is given of the behaviour of a broadband, small-amplitude wind-wave field to a perturbing internal wave velocity pattern. The theory includes the effect of the local wind. Specific predictions are made for the case of weak internal wave currents, and these predictions are compared to measurements. The theory predicts the magnitude of the mean-square-slope changes reasonably well, and it predicts the quadrant of the phases correctly. General features of the perturbed surface-wave energy spectrum integrated in an angle are also predicted reasonbly well, and comparisons are made of the theoretical and measured local integrated spectrum at roughened areas and at slick areas. Various conditions for two theoretical wind-wave spectra are used to predict the sensitivity (or magnitude of mean-square-slope change per unit-current change, suitably normalized) and phase of the slope field as functions of the wind. Representative calculations are also made to provide sensitivity and phase of mean-square height and mean-square curvature as functions of the wind. It is shown that the 'weak internal wave' analysis leads to a singular perturbation series, and a method for obtaining a uniformly valid expansion is given and explored in detail.

Book Wind Waves

    Book Details:
  • Author : Blair Kinsman
  • Publisher : Courier Dover Publications
  • Release : 1984
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 728 pages

Download or read book Wind Waves written by Blair Kinsman and published by Courier Dover Publications. This book was released on 1984 with total page 728 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this classic study, a renowned student of ocean wave theory examines the data requirements and details of the power spectral analysis required to make the wave revolution intelligible. Although the discussions center on waves, once the techniques are understood, they can be applied to many other areas. After outlining the nature of waves and wave processes and their methods of measurement and classification, the author provides a detailed exploration that relies heavily on mathematical models. Topics include perturbations of irrotational motion, energy considerations, wave generations by wind, and much more. The text is enhanced and clarified by 270 photos, figures, and tables. A helpful bibliography and indexes conclude this indispensable addition to the oceanographer's library.
