Book Resonant Infrared Detectors and Emitters

Download or read book Resonant Infrared Detectors and Emitters written by Kwong-Kit Choi and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2024 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book is a sequel of The Physics of Quantum Well Infrared Photodetectors (1997), which covered the basic physics of QWIPs. In this intervening 25 years, QWIP properties pertinent to infrared detection are much better understood, and QWIP technology has become a mainstream infrared technology. The main progress is the ability to know the QWIP absorption quantum efficiency quantitatively through rigorous electromagnetic modeling. Based on the materials expounded in the book, the reader will know key performance metrics in infrared detection, in-depth knowledge of QWIP material and structural designs and array production, its application, and practical knowledge of electromagnetic modeling. In addition, the book will describe using micro- and nano-structures to enhance the emission properties of active and passive optical emitters, similar to detectors"--

Book Infrared Nanophotonics

Download or read book Infrared Nanophotonics written by Tadaaki Nagao and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-04-21 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Infrared light radiates from almost all the matter on earth, and its strategic use will be an important issue for the enhancement of human life and the sustainable development of modern industry. Since its frequency is in the same region as phonons or molecular vibrations of materials, measuring its emission or absorption spectra helps us in characterizing and identifying materials in a non-destructive manner. Meanwhile, if we can spectroscopically design infrared emission by tuning chemical composition or artificially controlling nano- to mesoscale structures, this will have a great impact on industrial applications, such as thermophotovoltaics, energy-saving drying furnaces, spectroscopic infrared light sources, and various types of infrared sensors. In this Special Issue, we encourage submissions from researchers who are working on infrared nanophotonics based on MEMS/NEMS, and nanomaterials science, ranging from materials synthesis, to device fabrications, electromagnetic simulations, and thermal managements. Important topics of growing interest are wavelength-selective infrared emitters and detectors, where we can see rapid development in the fields of nano-plasmonics and metamaterials, and we invite such topics for inclusion in this Special Issue. We also encourage submissions on nano-materials science such as on graphene-based infrared detectors/emitters, and nanostructured narrow-band gap semiconductors.

Book Stochastic Resonance

Download or read book Stochastic Resonance written by Bruno Andò and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stochastic Resonance: Theory and Applications deals with the theory of noise-added systems and in particular with Stochastic Resonance, a quite novel theory that was introduced in the 1980s to provide better understanding of some natural phenomena (e.g. ice age recurrence). Following the very first works, a number of different applications to both natural and human-produced phenomena were proposed. The book aims to improve the understanding of noise-based techniques and to focus on practical applications of this class of phenomena (an aspect that has been very poorly investigated up to now). Based on this objective, the book is roughly divided into two parts. The first part deals with the essential theory of noise-added systems and in particular a new approach to noise-added techniques that allows a number of strategies proposed in previous years to be unified. The proposed approach also allows real-time control of the noise characteristics, assuring optimal system performance. In the second part a large number of applications are described in detail in the field of electric and electronic devices, with the aim of allowing readers to build their own experimental set. The book comes with a diskette of educational software that the authors developed. Stochastic Resonance: Theory and Applications is an invaluable reference for students, researchers and engineering professionals working in the fields of electric and electronic measurements, electronics and signal theory.

Book Graphene Based Terahertz Electronics and Plasmonics

Download or read book Graphene Based Terahertz Electronics and Plasmonics written by Vladimir Mitin and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-11-23 with total page 1027 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Graphene demonstrates interesting electrical, optical, and optoelectronic properties. A number of other one-atom-thick material structures have been discovered and studied. Industrially applicable technologies for these structures are currently under active development. In spite of enormous research in the area of devices based on graphene, the number of extensive review publications on THz devices based on graphene is small. This review volume would fill the gap. Researchers and engineers working in the fields of electronics and plasmonics can use it to understand the influence of plasmonics on device performance. The book can be also be used as a required text for doctorate courses and as a supplementary material for postgraduate courses. The material presented in the book is reviewed in detail in Chapter 1. Chapter 2 discusses the electronic and plasmonic properties of graphene and heterostructures based on graphene for all devices. Chapters 3–7 focus on the concepts of detectors and emitters with a special emphasis on plasmonic enhancement of those devices as well as on population inversion and lasing.
