Book Repair Weld Induced Residual Stresses in Thick walled Steel Pressure Vessels

Download or read book Repair Weld Induced Residual Stresses in Thick walled Steel Pressure Vessels written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If a flaw requiring corrective action were to be found in an operating nuclear pressure vessel, there would be considerable safety and economic implications. Should such a flaw be found, one possible corrective action would be an in situ repair weld. A repair of this type would presumably involve grinding away material in a region encompassing the flaw and then filling the resulting cavity with weld metal. Thermal stress relieving under those conditions could lead to serious difficulties associated with thermal expansion and warpage and would therefore most likely be avoided. Such a departure from normal procedure raises questions relating to residual stresses and material toughness levels which would have to be assessed before a repair could be recommended or approved. The residual stress measurements reported are intended to provide baseline information to aid in an assessment should such a repair ever have to be seriously considered.

Book Residual Stress Analysis on Welded Joints by Means of Numerical Simulation and Experiments

Download or read book Residual Stress Analysis on Welded Joints by Means of Numerical Simulation and Experiments written by Paolo Ferro and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-05-16 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ability to quantify residual stresses induced by welding processes through experimentation or numerical simulation has become, today more than ever, of strategic importance in the context of their application to advanced design. This is an ongoing challenge that commenced many years ago. Recent design criteria endeavour to quantify the effect of residual stresses on fatigue strength of welded joints to allow a more efficient use of materials and a greater reliability of welded structures. The aim of the present book is contributing to these aspects of design through a collection of case-studies that illustrate both standard and advanced experimental and numerical methodologies used to assess the residual stress field in welded joints. The work is intended to be of assistance to designers, industrial engineers and academics who want to deepen their knowledge of this challenging topic.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annotation These 26 technical papers from the August 2002 conference present novel analytical and experimental methods related to fracture mechanics, computational weld mechanics, and residual stresses for evaluation of the structural integrity and reliability of pressure vessels and piping. Bi-metallic welds, finite elements and constraint effects on fracture, and large scale weld modeling of structures are addressed. Topics include fracture assessment of a clad steel using the SINTAP procedure, lump pass welding simulation technology for shipbuilding applications, and the determination of constraint-modified J-R curves for carbon steel storage tanks. Book Welding Deformation and Residual Stress Prevention

Download or read book Welding Deformation and Residual Stress Prevention written by Ninshu Ma and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-04-26 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Generally, welding produces welding deformation and residual stress in the products, which influences the quality and performance of the products. Although many engineers and researchers have made great effort how to control these incidents, they have still remained unresolved. Welding Deformation and Residual Stress Prevention provides a unique computational approach to the prediction of the effects of deformation and residual stress on materials. The goal is to provide engineers and designers with the ability to create their own computational system for predicting and possibly avoiding the problem altogether. - The basic theories including "theory of elastic-plastic analysis" and "inherent strain theory" , and analysis procedures are described using a simple three-bar model - Online simulation software to perform basic analysis on welding mechanics - Examples of strategic methods and procedures are illustrated to have solved various welding-related problems encountered in the process of construction - Appendices present data bases for welding residual stresses, temperature dependent material properties, etc.

Book Investigation of Residual Stress in Steel Welds

Download or read book Investigation of Residual Stress in Steel Welds written by Anna Maria Paradowska and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010-09 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book seeks to improve knowledge and understanding of residual stress in steel welds by providing a detailed distribution of those stresses measured by non-destructive independent techniques, such as neutron and synchrotron diffraction methods. The work has investigated improved measurement and data interpretation procedures relating to these techniques. One investigation related to the design of stress-free reference samples and the procedure by which they should be measured. Another investigation related to the development of consistency checks on the residual stress measurements to ensure that they met boundary requirements. It was found that these factors were critical for obtaining good correlation between residual stresses measured by synchrotron and neutron diffraction. The work adds to the understanding of the nature of residual stress in welded components. The measurements were compared to the estimates published in the current fitness-for- service codes and provide a sounder base by which finite element models can be judged.

Book Heat Effects of Welding

Download or read book Heat Effects of Welding written by Dieter Radaj and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost all welding technology depends upon the use of concentrated energy sources to fuse or soften the material locally at the joint, before such energy can be diffused or dispersed elsewhere. Although comprehensive treatments of transient heat flow as a controlling influence have been developed progressively and published over the past forty years, the task of uniting the results compactly within a textbook has become increasingly formidable. With the comparative scarcity of such works, welding engineers have been denied the full use of powerful design analysis tools. During the past decade Dr Radaj has prepared to fulfil this need, working from a rich experience as pioneer researcher and teacher, co-operator with Professor Argyris at Stuttgart University in developing the finite element method for stress analysis of aircraft and power plant structures, and more recently as expert consultant on these and automotive structures at Daimler Benz. His book appeared in 1988 in the German language, and this updated English language edition will significantly increase the availability of the work.
