Book excerpt: Excerpt from Researches in Female Pelvic Anatomy Hitherto, in the text-books, the descriptions of the anatomical changes in the pelvis met with during the puerperium have been of a very imperfect nature, and have been made from the ordinary method of post-mortem examination as well as from physical examination of the living subject. As the most important changes are those of altered relationships, it is evident that neither of these methods of study can be trusted to furnish exact information. In order to gain the most correct idea of topographical relationship, one must make use of the sectional method. As yet only three1 cadavera have been fully in vestigated by means of frozen sections, two of which, the one described by Barbour and the other by Stratz, had deformed pelves._ The third is a five-and-a - half days case of Barbour's, in which, unfortunately, the pelvic contents were septic.
