Book Communism in Finland

Download or read book Communism in Finland written by John H. Hodgson and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2015-12-08 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A complete history of the Finnish Communist Party, one of the most active and popular communist parties outside the Sino-Soviet bloc. Starting with the founding of the Finnish Social Democratic Party in the 1880's, leading to the founding of the Communist Party by dissident Social Democrats in the early 1920’s, this book gives a detailed account of the activities, goals, and leadership of communism in Finland. One major aspect of this study is the contention of the author that the war in Finland following Germany’s defeat in 1918 was not a revolution fought against the Russian army, but rather a civil war, with Red Finn pitted against White Finn. Originally published in 1967. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. Book Stalinism and the Soviet Finnish War 1939 40

Download or read book Stalinism and the Soviet Finnish War 1939 40 written by Malcolm L. G. Spencer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-07-25 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an illuminating bridge between the political and social dimensions of the Soviet-Finnish War of 1939-40. The conflict represented a significant crisis for the Soviet Union, inspiring international condemnation and a significant loss of face for its supporters, both at home and abroad. The focus of this study is not upon the military dynamics of the war, but upon its ability to influence events, interpretations and interactions between agents and institutions within the Soviet Union and the wider international communist movement. Through original archival research, this book considers the ways in which the Soviet leadership reacted to the crisis, the tools at its disposal, and the effectiveness with which it managed to manipulate and control the spread of information through official and unofficial channels. It contributes to a more complete and complex picture of the inter-related nature of Soviet politics, propaganda and mass media in this period.

Book Labor in Finland

Download or read book Labor in Finland written by Carl Erik Knoellinger and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 1960 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finland's precarious proximity to Russia makes this small country a unique and revealing study in contemporary social and economic patterns. The author demonstrates that "in spite of Finland's deep-rooted cultural kinship with Scandinavia...new factors, often political in nature, have affected the development of society very differently in each of these countries." One of the most decisive differences, as his book makes clear, is the position of the Communist party in Finnish politics. In this first English book on the Finnish situation, Carl Erik Knoellinger makes perceptive analyses of detailed data on the varied aspects of his subject.
