Book Non technological Innovations for Sustainable Transport

Download or read book Non technological Innovations for Sustainable Transport written by Alexandra Hyard and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-08-07 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examining non-technological innovations for environmentally and socially-friendly transport, this book provides the reader with a better understanding of this often overlooked topic. It features four illustrative case studies, and presents a concise review of the core transport modes (road, rail and marine transport). Transport companies are compelled to innovate due to economic and environmental pressures, and the aim of these innovations is to improve fuel efficiency and ultimately to transform energy use in the transport sector. Whilst many of these innovations are technological, they can conversely be non-technological in nature. This book is intended for students and researchers interested in economics, environmental economics and economics of innovation. It also offers a useful resource to industry professionals interested in ecology and transport.

Book Mobilities Design

    Book Details:
  • Author : Ole B. Jensen
  • Publisher : Taylor & Francis
  • Release : 2016-10-04
  • ISBN : 1317526937
  • Pages : 189 pages

Download or read book Mobilities Design written by Ole B. Jensen and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2016-10-04 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contemporary society is marked and defined by the ways in which mobile goods, bodies, vehicles, objects, and data are organized, moved and staged. Against the background of the ‘mobilities turn’ this book articulates a new and emerging research field, namely that of ‘mobilities design’. The book revolves around the following research question: How are design decisions and interventions staging mobilities? It builds upon the ‘Staging Mobilities’ model (Jensen 2013) in an exploratory inquiry into the problems and potentials of the design of mobilities. The exchange value between mobilities and design research is twofold. To mobilities research this means getting closer to the ‘material’, and to engage in the creative, exploratory and experimental approaches of the design world which offer new potential for innovative research. Design research, on the other hand, might enter into a fruitful relationship with mobilities research, offering a relational and mobile design thinking and a valuable basis for design reflections around the ubiquitous structures, spaces and systems of mobilities.

Book Designing Mobility and Transport Services

Download or read book Designing Mobility and Transport Services written by Mike Tovey and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-11-10 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: European cities increasingly face problems caused by transport and traffic. For many people transport provision is unsatisfactory and current arrangements are leading to a deteriorating environment. A fundamental problem is that our currently fragmented approach makes it difficult to understand fully the circumstances and needs of transport users. In any overall approach public transport is a crucial component. Designing Mobility and Transport Services shows how these issues can be addressed and resolved. The development of an inclusive, validated passenger experience measurement instrument is the first step in understanding the situation and thus tackling it. It is needed if we are to create high quality, user centred, integrated, accessible public transport services, which are capable of attracting and retaining public transport users whilst meeting sustainability targets. The METPEX research project was devised to tackle these issues. Coordinated by Coventry University, the METPEX consortium brought together 16 European partners from 12 countries. The project’s underlying rationale was the proposition that if transport operators and authorities were provided with a robust, reliable and tailorable means of measuring the whole multimodal passenger journey, they could improve service provision. The book describes how such an improvement can be achieved, to attract travellers out of their private vehicles, thereby reducing congestion and pollution and increasing health and well-being. It provides a template for a creative approach and a meta-design narrative in designing for transport systems to enhance mobility choices by improving the door to door journey and thus underpin sustainable transport initiatives.

Book Logistics In The Cities Development Strategies

Download or read book Logistics In The Cities Development Strategies written by Maja Kiba-Janiak and published by Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Ekonomicznego we Wrocławiu. This book was released on 2019-06-04 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: City logistics plays an increasingly important role in Europe. Among the many affecting factors is the increasing urban population, which in 2015 accounted for two thirds of the European Union population [Eurostat 2018]. This situation causes increased personal and commodity traffic in cities and contributes to such problems as: congestion, lowering the level of road safety and environmental pollution. Problems, resulting from the increased personal and commodity traffic, require taking strategic decisions by local authorities. In recent years, within the framework of various European projects, the assumptions have been developed for urban authorities to draw up sustainable urban mobility plans (SUMP), sustainable urban transport plans (SUTP) and sustainable urban logistics plans (SULP) [Fossheim, Andersen 2017, pp. 9-52]. Nevertheless, in order to effectively implement transport plans, the city requires a logistics strategy that would allow these plans to be adapted to the city's vision and strategic goals. This book presents both theoretical framework as well as practical tools and methods for a city logistics strategy development. The obtained research results conducted in 15 EU capital cities complement the existing knowledge on the essence of logistics in city development strategies, and thus can also provide valuable information for local authorities, researchers or politician

Book Sustainable Logistics and Supply Chains

Download or read book Sustainable Logistics and Supply Chains written by Meng Lu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-09-04 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the main challenges affecting modern logistics and supply chains and is organized according to five main themes: supply chain strategy and management, information and communication technology (ICT) for logistics and related business models, vertical and horizontal collaboration, intelligent hubs (e.g. ports and cities) and policy for sustainable logistics. The key findings presented are based on both extensive research and on business cases. The book examines logistics from a comprehensive viewpoint embracing the entire supply chain. The overarching advanced logistics and supply chain concept at the heart of this book endeavors to contribute to a sustainable intelligent transport system by making it more efficient, cost-effective, safe, reliable and competitive. Specifically, the book focuses on the need for a variety of supply chain, logistics and transport options, on the potential offered by technological developments, infrastructural and organizational aspects, information flows, the financial and legal domain, harmonization and the complexity of implementation. In closing, the book presents new approaches to the coordination of sound business and governance models.

Book Challenges of Urban Mobility Transport Companies and Systems

Download or read book Challenges of Urban Mobility Transport Companies and Systems written by Michał Suchanek and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-05-18 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This proceedings volume examines individual city transports, transport companies and entire transport systems. Featuring select contributions presented at the 2018 TranSopot Conference in Sopot, Poland, this book provides an analysis of transportation solutions both at the micro-level (single city or single company) as well as the macro-level (whole transportation systems). The enclosed research and case studies provide a theoretical background for transport analysis but also new innovative and sustainable solutions to transportation while also increasing the efficiency of transport operations. Transportation is a very specific area of social and economic life. It creates countless opportunities and fulfills the need for mobility while also generating significant cost—direct for the company or indirect to societies. Planning and organizing transport is a task which requires a multi-level approach with a focus on operational, ecological and financial aspects. At a time in which many transport systems are unable to grow extensively due to lack of space or increased cost, these activities are even more crucial. The enclosed research from researchers, scholars and practitioners provides not only new theories but also empirical data and practical experience. The TranSopot 2018 conference is a continuation of a long series of conferences devoted to the topic of transport sector development. The goal of the conference is to exchange current trends and spread the results of current research into the fields of transport growth, development and management.
