Book Reputations At Stake

Download or read book Reputations At Stake written by William S. Harvey and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2023-03-21 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reputation is important to all of us. Reputations at Stake provides evidence-based and engaging examples that reveal a compelling story about the phenomenon of reputation. Organisations cannot ignore reputation because it impacts the sales of its products or services, its share price if publicly listed, and the types of employees it can attract and retain. Reputation is relevant for governments and politicians because it influences public perceptions and voting. It also relates to us at an individual level and impacts on how we can operate and integrate within our home, work, and social lives. Reputation is not merely a macro-level strategic issue (e.g., for governments, corporations, or charities), a meso-level intermediation issue (e.g., for mass media, social media, and PR agencies) or a micro-level operational issue (e.g., for leaders, managers, or employees), but it is a multi-scale phenomenon that impacts everyone. The multiple ways that different and often conflicting reputations are playing out are articulated through research and examples, from the British royal family, libraries during lockdown, the world of influencers, Rio Tinto in Madagascar, white collar inmates in a US Federal Prison, and companies including BP, VW, and McKinsey & Company.

Book Who Fights for Reputation

Download or read book Who Fights for Reputation written by Keren Yarhi-Milo and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2018-09-11 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How psychology explains why a leader is willing to use military force to protect or salvage reputation In Who Fights for Reputation, Keren Yarhi-Milo provides an original framework, based on insights from psychology, to explain why some political leaders are more willing to use military force to defend their reputation than others. Rather than focusing on a leader's background, beliefs, bargaining skills, or biases, Yarhi-Milo draws a systematic link between a trait called self-monitoring and foreign policy behavior. She examines self-monitoring among national leaders and advisers and shows that while high self-monitors modify their behavior strategically to cultivate image-enhancing status, low self-monitors are less likely to change their behavior in response to reputation concerns. Exploring self-monitoring through case studies of foreign policy crises during the terms of U.S. presidents Carter, Reagan, and Clinton, Yarhi-Milo disproves the notion that hawks are always more likely than doves to fight for reputation. Instead, Yarhi-Milo demonstrates that a decision maker's propensity for impression management is directly associated with the use of force to restore a reputation for resolve on the international stage. Who Fights for Reputation offers a brand-new understanding of the pivotal influence that psychological factors have on political leadership, military engagement, and the protection of public prestige.

Download or read book Kesselring written by Kenneth Macksey and published by Frontline Books. This book was released on 2012-03-19 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Illustrated with maps and a center section of black and white photographs. Kesselring-commander, leader, administrator; the only senior German officer to start and finish the Second World War holding a high command appointment. There was scarcely a major campaign in which he was not at some time deeply involved: he flew in the forefront of the battle over Poland, Holland, Britain, Russia and the Western Desert and was shot down five times; as a field commander he defended Tunisia, Italy and, ultimately, Germany. But it is as much for his role in the formation and development of the Luftwaffe that Kesselring is remembered-his were many of the ideas, plans and insights about the part played by aircraft in the land battle. They were central to the careful, systematic reorganization and building up of the German military machine in the 1920s and 30s. This first complete biography presents the complex, fascinating personality of a man whose qualities of utter determination, charm and good humor, harnessed to outstanding training and experience, enabled him to cope with both victory and defeat and, finally, when placed on trial for his life, to face his judges with dignity, equanimity and a staunch defense.

Book Health Care in the Information Society

Download or read book Health Care in the Information Society written by David Ingram and published by Open Book Publishers. This book was released on 2023-11-17 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this fascinating book David Ingram traces the history of information technology and health informatics from its pioneers in the middle of the twentieth century to its latest developments. The book is distinctive in its broad scope and coverage and as the eyewitness account of an author who became the first UK professor appointed with the mission to bridge information technology with everyday medicine, health, and care. In this role, he has been a co-founder and leader of two rapidly growing initiatives, openEHR and OpenEyes, which stem from international collaborations of universities, health services and industries. These open source and open platform technologies have struck a widely resonant chord worldwide through their focus on community interest endeavours and open access to their methods and outputs. Set against the history of extremely costly, burdensome, and serially unsuccessful top-down attempts of governments to tackle the domain, the book argues for a greater focus on shared endeavours of this kind, contributing towards a standardized care information utility that incorporates methods and resources evolved, shared, and sustained in the public domain. As information technologies are now at the very core of health care, shaping the relationship between medical services and communities, professions, organisations and industries this book is important reading for politicians, health care academics, administrators and providers, and to anybody interested in the future of health services in the digital age.
