Book excerpt: Este trabalho tem por objetivo investigar as representações de alunos iniciantes de um Curso de Letras, em relação às aulas de inglês, sobre o que eles entendem a respeito do processo de ensino-aprendizagem de inglês, do papel do professor e do papel do aluno. Para tanto, esta pesquisa fundamenta-se no conceito de representação proposto por Moscovici (1984), Jodelet (1984), Minayo (1995), Celani e Magalhães (2002), Freire e Lessa (2003), entre outros. Enfoca também o ensino de língua estrangeira no Brasil através das Leis de Diretrizes e Bases da Educação (LDB) e dos Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais para o Ensino de Língua Estrangeira (PCN-LE). Traça, ainda, considerações sobre como o fazer pedagógico do professor imbrica-se às teorias de aprendizagem propostas por Skinner (behaviorismo), Piaget (cognitivismo) e Vygotsky (sócio-interacionismo) e às teorias de linguagem (tradicional e contemporânea) propostas por Nunan (1999). A pesquisa foi conduzida através de um estudo de caso (Stake, 1998 e Johnson, 1992) e o procedimento de análise adotado é o de identificação de repertórios interpretativos, de Potter e Wetherell (1987). Os resultados revelam que as diferentes representações dos envolvidos no processo de ensino-aprendizagem de língua inglesa, em sala de aula, apontam para conflitos não só sobre os papéis prescritos a professores e alunos pelas leis que regem o ensino de língua inglesa no Brasil, como também a respeito dos papéis desempenhados por professores e alunos. Dessa forma, este estudo permite refletir sobre quais mudanças seriam necessárias a fim de que sejam proporcionados melhores contextos de aprendizagem da disciplina Língua Inglesa.

Sendo assim, para que haja uma formação em que o aprendiz se perceba como um sujeito crítico atuante em diferentes esferas sociais, é preciso que o processo de ensino da língua auxilie-o na percepção e na interação com as diferentes realidades ao seu redor, bem como na constatação do hibridismo cultural que perpassa o uso da língua inglesa. Além disso, sendo o livro didático uma das principais fontes de uso da língua para grande parte dos alunos de escolas públicas brasileiras, conhecer os pressupostos e as representações sociais/culturais em relação ao inglês, provenientes do material didático, é importante para compreendermos como este pode influenciar na percepção acerca da realidade e na formação intelectual do estudante. E, a análise do material didático pode auxiliar na reflexão do professor sobre suas próprias percepções e sobre o trabalho desenvolvido com o auxílio do livro didático em sala de aula.

Book excerpt: Esta pesquisa dedicou-se a avaliação da experiência de utilização da plataforma Edmodo, pela professora de Língua Inglesa, durante os dois primeiros trimestres de 2016, em uma Escola Estadual de Ensino Fundamental e Médio (EEEFM), localizada no Bairro Mário Cyprestes, município de Vitória-ES. O uso da plataforma foi motivado pelos altos índices de reprovação dos estudantes e pela busca de estratégias que pudessem auxiliá-los no processo de ensino–aprendizagem e, consequentemente, refletissem de forma positiva nos resultados trimestrais. O objetivo foi compreender se o uso da plataforma auxiliou os estudantes e a mim, professora da disciplina, no processo de ensino-aprendizagem da Língua Inglesa. Esta é uma pesquisa qualitativa, do tipo avaliativa, que utilizou os seguintes instrumentos para produção de dados: observação participante, diário de campo, questionário online direcionado aos estudantes e diário de notas para levantamento de dados. A análise de dados foi desenvolvida a partir da criação de critérios de avaliação como “impactos no processo de ensino-aprendizagem com o uso do Edmodo como elemento mediador da aprendizagem”, “Edmodo como instrumento de mediação” e “implementação da plataforma Edmodo na escola.” Os dados foram então analisados à luz da teoria histórico-social de Vygotsky sobre o uso de instrumentos tecnológicos no processo de ensino-aprendizagem. Apesar das avaliações positivas dos sujeitos desta pesquisa sobre a experiência com o Edmodo, avalio que a utilização da plataforma como instrumento tecnológico para mediar à aprendizagem não teve êxito significativo.

As we begin to move in and out of a computer-generated world, Michael Heim asks, how will the way we perceive our world change? In The Metaphysics of Virtual Reality, Heim considers this and other philosophical issues of the Information Age. With an eye for the dark as well as the bright side of computer technology, he explores the logical and historical origins of our computer-generated world and speculates about the future direction of our computerized lives.
