Book Measuring Performance and Benchmarking Project Management at the Department of Energy

Download or read book Measuring Performance and Benchmarking Project Management at the Department of Energy written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2005-08-01 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1997, Congress, in the conference report, H.R. 105-271, to the FY1998 Energy and Water Development Appropriation Bill, directed the National Research Council (NRC) to carry out a series of assessments of project management at the Department of Energy (DOE). The final report in that series noted that DOE lacked an objective set of measures for assessing project management quality. The department set up a committee to develop performance measures and benchmarking procedures and asked the NRC for assistance in this effort. This report presents information and guidance for use as a first step toward development of a viable methodology to suit DOE's needs. It provides a number of possible performance measures, an analysis of the benchmarking process, and a description ways to implement the measures and benchmarking process.

Book Performance Assessment for the Workplace

Download or read book Performance Assessment for the Workplace written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1991-01-01 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although ability testing has been an American preoccupation since the 1920s, comparatively little systematic attention has been paid to understanding and measuring the kinds of human performance that tests are commonly used to predictâ€"such as success at school or work. Now, a sustained, large-scale effort has been made to develop measures that are very close to actual performance on the job. The four military services have carried out an ambitious study, called the Joint-Service Job Performance Measurement/Enlistment Standards (JPM) Project, that brings new sophistication to the measurement of performance in work settings. Volume 1 analyzes the JPM experience in the context of human resource management policy in the military. Beginning with a historical overview of the criterion problem, it looks closely at substantive and methodological issues in criterion research suggested by the project: the development of performance measures; sampling, logistical, and standardization problems; evaluating the reliability and content representativeness of performance measures; and the relationship between predictor scores and performance measuresâ€"valuable information that can also be useful in the civilian workplace.

Book Validating Future Force Performance Measures Army Class

Download or read book Validating Future Force Performance Measures Army Class written by Karen O. Moriarty and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To meet the challenges facing the Army, the Army needs predictor measures that will enhance entry-level Soldier selection and classification. One of the purposes of the Army Research Institute for Behavioral and Social Sciences (ARI's) Army Class project is to provide the Army with recommendations on which predictor measures, in particular measures of non-cognitive attributes (e.g., interests, values, and temperament), demonstrate the greatest potential to inform entry-level Soldier selection and classification decisions. The present report documents the development of criterion measures to assist in these analyses. A second purpose of the Army Class project is to develop and pilot job knowledge tests (JKTs) that can be used to aid reclassification decisions. If Soldiers are shown to possess critical knowledge, skills, and attributes (KSAs) for their new jobs, this could reduce training requirements and increase force readiness. This report documents the development of reclassification JKT test items.

Book Performance Metrics for the Global Nuclear Detection Architecture

Download or read book Performance Metrics for the Global Nuclear Detection Architecture written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2013-12-12 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Global Nuclear Detection Architecture (GNDA) is described as a worldwide network of sensors, telecommunications, and personnel, with the supporting information exchanges, programs, and protocols that serve to detect, analyze, and report on nuclear and radiological materials that are out of regulatory control. The Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO), an office within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), coordinates the development of the GNDA with its federal partners. Performance Metrics for the Global Nuclear Detection Architecture considers how to develop performance measures and quantitative metrics that can be used to evaluate the overall effectiveness and report on progress toward meeting the goals of the GNDA. According to this report, two critical components are needed to evaluate the effectiveness of the GNDA: a new strategic plan with outcome-based metrics and an analysis framework to enable assessment of outcome-based metrics. The GNDA is a complex system of systems meant to deter and detect attempts to unlawfully transport radiological or nuclear material. The recommendations of Performance Metrics for the Performance Metrics for the Global Nuclear Detection Architecture may be used to improve the GNDA strategic plan and the reporting of progress toward meeting its goals during subsequent review cycles.

Book Analysis of Battlefield Operating System BOS Statements for Developing Performance Measurement

Download or read book Analysis of Battlefield Operating System BOS Statements for Developing Performance Measurement written by Angelo Mirabella and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This study was an initial effort in a larger program to develop training feedback measures and decision support methodology (DSM) for selecting brigade training strategies. Essential to either purpose is a set of reliable and valid unit performance measures. Such measures have traditionally been derived from front-end analysis. But archival data from the National Training Center (NTC) make possible a new, complementary approach of deriving measures from exercise data. In this study Battlefield Operating System (BOS) Impact Statements were used to derive unit performance measurement concepts. It was found that Impact Statements can be used reliably to judge relative unit performance across exercises, can be related to mission outcome, and can be used as a basis for deriving improved measures for training feedback and training effectiveness."--DTIC.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FISMA and the Risk Management Framework: The New Practice of Federal Cyber Security deals with the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), a law that provides the framework for securing information systems and managing risk associated with information resources in federal government agencies. Comprised of 17 chapters, the book explains the FISMA legislation and its provisions, strengths and limitations, as well as the expectations and obligations of federal agencies subject to FISMA. It also discusses the processes and activities necessary to implement effective information security management following the passage of FISMA, and it describes the National Institute of Standards and Technology's Risk Management Framework. This book will be helpful to security officers, risk managers, system owners, IT managers, contractors, consultants, service providers, and others involved in securing, managing, or overseeing federal information systems, as well as the mission functions and business processes supported by those systems. Learn how to build a robust, near real-time risk management system and comply with FISMA Discover the changes to FISMA compliance and beyond Gain your systems the authorization they need
