Download or read book Statistical Matching written by Marcello D'Orazio and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-03-30 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is more statistical data produced in today’s modern society than ever before. This data is analysed and cross-referenced for innumerable reasons. However, many data sets have no shared element and are harder to combine and therefore obtain any meaningful inference from. Statistical matching allows just that; it is the art of combining information from different sources (particularly sample surveys) that contain no common unit. In response to modern influxes of data, it is an area of rapidly growing interest and complexity. Statistical Matching: Theory and Practice introduces the basics of statistical matching, before going on to offer a detailed, up-to-date overview of the methods used and an examination of their practical applications. Presents a unified framework for both theoretical and practical aspects of statistical matching. Provides a detailed description covering all the steps needed to perform statistical matching. Contains a critical overview of the available statistical matching methods. Discusses all the major issues in detail, such as the Conditional Independence Assumption and the assessment of uncertainty. Includes numerous examples and applications, enabling the reader to apply the methods in their own work. Features an appendix detailing algorithms written in the R language. Statistical Matching: Theory and Practice presents a comprehensive exploration of an increasingly important area. Ideal for researchers in national statistics institutes and applied statisticians, it will also prove to be an invaluable text for scientists and researchers from all disciplines engaged in the multivariate analysis of data collected from different sources.

Book An Evaluation of Statistical Matching Methods

Download or read book An Evaluation of Statistical Matching Methods written by John Armstrong and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Statistical matching is a technique for combining information from two microdata sets that does not require the presence of unique identifiers. Validity of results obtained using statistical matching depends on assumptions about relationships between variables that are unique to each input file. Univariate and bivariate distributions on files created by statistical matching may be subject to additional distortions. Performances of a number of statistical matching methods are examined using synthetic data as well as a inicroeconomic data file created by exact matching of information from the Survey of Consumer Finance and Revenue Canada's tax file. Statistical matching results are compared to those obtained using imputation methods that require a small microdata set containing information about all variables"--Abstract.

Book Computer Science and Statistics Proceedings of the 13th Symposium on the Interface

Download or read book Computer Science and Statistics Proceedings of the 13th Symposium on the Interface written by W. F. Eddy and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 13th Symposium on the Interface continued this series after a one year pause. The objective of these symposia is to provide a forum for the interchange of ideas of common concern to computer scientists and statisticians. The sessions of the 13th Symposium were held in the Pittsburgh Hilton Hotel, Gateway Center, Pittsburgh. Following established custom the 13th Symposium had organized workshops on various topics of interest to participants. The workshop format allowed the invited speakers to present their material variously as formal talks, tutorial sessions and open discussion. The Symposium schedule was also the customary one. Registration opened in late afternoon of March 11, 1981 and continued during the opening mixer held that evening: The formal opening of the Symposium was on the morning of March 12. The opening remarks were followed by Bradley Efron's address "Statistical Theory and the Computer." The rest of the daily schedule was three concurrent workshops in the morning and three in the afternoon with contributed poster sessions during the noon break. Additionally there were several commercial displays and guided tours of Carnegie-Mellon University's Computer Center, Computer Science research facilities, and Robotics Institute.
