Book Optimization and Business Improvement Studies in Upstream Oil and Gas Industry

Download or read book Optimization and Business Improvement Studies in Upstream Oil and Gas Industry written by Sanjib Chowdhury and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-08-15 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Delves into the core and functional areas in the upstream oil and gas industry covering a wide range of operations and processes Oil and gas exploration and production (E&P) activities are costly, risky and technology-intensive. With the rise in global demand for oil and fast depletion of easy reserves, the search for oil is directed to more difficult areas – deepwater, arctic region, hostile terrains; and future production is expected to come from increasingly difficult reserves – deeper horizon, low quality crude. All these are making E&P activities even more challenging in terms of operations, technology, cost and risk. Therefore, it is necessary to use scarce resources judiciously and optimize strategies, cost and capital, and improve business performance in all spheres of E&P business. Optimization and Business Improvement Studies in Upstream Oil and Gas Industry contains eleven real-life optimization and business improvement studies that delve into the core E&P activities and functional areas covering a wide range of operations and processes. It uses various quantitative and qualitative techniques, such as Linear Programing, Queuing theory, Critical Path Analysis, Economic analysis, Best Practices Benchmark, Business Process Simplification etc. to optimize Productivity of drilling operations Controllable rig time loss Deepwater exploration strategy Rig move time and activity schedule Offshore supply vessel fleet size Supply chain management system Strategic workforce and human resource productivity Base oil price for a country Standardize consumption of materials Develop uniform safety standards for offshore installations Improve organizational efficiency through business process simplification The book will be of immense interest to practicing managers, professionals and employees at all levels/ disciplines in oil and gas industry. It will also be useful to academicians, scholars, educational institutes, energy research institutes, and consultants dealing with oil and gas. The work can be used as a practical guide to upstream professionals and students in petroleum engineering programs.

Book An Overview of the Subsurface Transport and Fate of Constituents Associated with Gas Industry Operations

Download or read book An Overview of the Subsurface Transport and Fate of Constituents Associated with Gas Industry Operations written by John A. Harju and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Natural gas industry operations result in the production of waste streams that contain constituents that are currently regulated, or may be regulated in the foreseeable future, under federal, state, or local regulations. One result is that industry personnel are increasingly faced with difficult decisions regarding the assessment and remediation of those waste-related constituents that are known or are suspected to have adversly impacted groundwater and other subsurface materials. In an effort to provide input to aid the gas industry in making soundly based decisions in this regard, activities were undertaken that resulted in the identification, review, and summary of the currently available data and other information related to the subsurface attenuation, transport, and fate of the constitutents of interest.

Book Performance Management for the Oil Gas and Process Industries

Download or read book Performance Management for the Oil Gas and Process Industries written by Robert Bruce Hey and published by Gulf Professional Publishing. This book was released on 2017-04-06 with total page 742 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Performance Management for the Oil, Gas, and Process Industries: A Systems Approach is a practical guide on the business cycle and techniques to undertake step, episodic, and breakthrough improvement in performance to optimize operating costs. Like many industries, the oil, gas, and process industries are coming under increasing pressure to cut costs due to ongoing construction of larger, more integrated units, as well as the application of increasingly stringent environmental policies. Focusing on the ‘value adder’ or ‘revenue generator’ core system and the company direction statement, this book describes a systems approach which assures significant sustainable improvements in the business and operational performance specific to the oil, gas, and process industries. The book will enable the reader to: utilize best practice principles of good governance for long term performance enhancement; identify the most significant performance indicators for overall business improvement; apply strategies to ensure that targets are met in agreed upon time frames. Describes a systems approach which assures significant sustainable improvements in the business and operational performance specific to the oil, gas, and process industries Helps readers set appropriate and realistic short-term/ long-term targets with a pre-built facility health checker Elucidates the relationship between PSM, OHS, and Asset Integrity with an increased emphasis on behavior-based safety Discusses specific oil and gas industry issues and examples such as refinery and gas plant performance initiatives and hydrocarbon accounting

Book Macondo Well Deepwater Horizon Blowout

Download or read book Macondo Well Deepwater Horizon Blowout written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2012-03-02 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The blowout of the Macondo well on April 20, 2010, led to enormous consequences for the individuals involved in the drilling operations, and for their families. Eleven workers on the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig lost their lives and 16 others were seriously injured. There were also enormous consequences for the companies involved in the drilling operations, to the Gulf of Mexico environment, and to the economy of the region and beyond. The flow continued for nearly 3 months before the well could be completely killed, during which time, nearly 5 million barrels of oil spilled into the gulf. Macondo Well-Deepwater Horizon Blowout examines the causes of the blowout and provides a series of recommendations, for both the oil and gas industry and government regulators, intended to reduce the likelihood and impact of any future losses of well control during offshore drilling. According to this report, companies involved in offshore drilling should take a "system safety" approach to anticipating and managing possible dangers at every level of operation-from ensuring the integrity of wells to designing blowout preventers that function under all foreseeable conditions-in order to reduce the risk of another accident as catastrophic as the Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill. In addition, an enhanced regulatory approach should combine strong industry safety goals with mandatory oversight at critical points during drilling operations. Macondo Well-Deepwater Horizon Blowout discusses ultimate responsibility and accountability for well integrity and safety of offshore equipment, formal system safety education and training of personnel engaged in offshore drilling, and guidelines that should be established so that well designs incorporate protection against the various credible risks associated with the drilling and abandonment process. This book will be of interest to professionals in the oil and gas industry, government decision makers, environmental advocacy groups, and others who seek an understanding of the processes involved in order to ensure safety in undertakings of this nature.
