Book Architecture by Herzog de Meuron Wall Painting by R my Zaugg a Work for Roche Basel

Download or read book Architecture by Herzog de Meuron Wall Painting by R my Zaugg a Work for Roche Basel written by Rémy Zaugg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2001-11-01 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between 1996 and 2000 the renowned architects Herzog & de Meuron built a new research centre together with a library, auditorium and cafeteria for the pharmaceutical company Roche in Basle. Situated on the outskirts of the town on the edge of the industrial area, the building was to include a closed section for laboratories yet should also be publicly accessible: the ideal starting point for an interdisciplinary solution. Artist Rémy Zaugg worked together with the architects developing the colours used. In particular he created a dramatic blue wall which separates public and restricted areas. This publication documents the entire project from its genesis to the completed construction, using texts, sketches, plans and photographs. More than a mere monograph, this book provides a fascinating glimpse into the creative collaboration occuring between architects and artists.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than any of their contemporaries, Swiss architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron are challenging the boundaries between architecture and art. Natural History explores that challenge, examining how the work of this formidable pair has drawn upon the art of both past and present, and brought architecture into dialogue with the art of our time. Echoing an encyclopedia, this publication reflects the natural history museum structure of the exhibition which it accompanies, organized by the Canadian Centre for Architecture. Models and projects by Herzog & de Meuron, as well as by other artists, are structured around six thematic portfolios that suggest an evolutionary history of the architects' work: Appropriation & Reconstruction, Transformation & Alienation, Stacking & Compression, Imprints & Moulds, Interlocking Spaces, and Beauty & Atmosphere. Each section is introduced with a statement from Herzog, and more than 20 artists, scholars, and architects have contributed essays, including Carrie Asman, Georges Didi-Huberman, Kurt W. Forster, Boris Groys, Ulrike Meyer Stump, Peggy Phelan, Thomas Ruff, Rebecca Schneider, Adolf Max Vogt, and Jeff Wall.

Book From Basel Herzog de Meuron

Download or read book From Basel Herzog de Meuron written by Jean-François Chevrier and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2016-10-24 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Treacherous Transparencies

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Treacherous Transparencies analyzes transparency as expressed in architecture and art in an attempt to understand the intentions and objectives that underlie its use by pertinent architects and artists. The publication looks at a few important works by selected artists and architects who work with transparency as an artistic strategy, which they implement primarily by using glass and mirrors but other media as well. e architects and artists listed together in this context form an unlikely alliance: Bruno Taut, Ivan Leonidov, Marcel Duchamp, Mies van der Rohe, Dan Graham, and Gerhard Richter. But they do have something in common: their work marks salient way stations in the story of modernism up to the present day. Concept & text by Jacques Herzog and photographs of Farnsworth House by Pierre de Meuron.

Book R my Zaugg The Particular Place

Download or read book R my Zaugg The Particular Place written by Eva Schmidt and published by . This book was released on 2022-05 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Architecture and Movement

Download or read book Architecture and Movement written by Peter Blundell Jones and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-12-17 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The experience of movement, of moving through buildings, cities, landscapes and in everyday life, is the only involvement most individuals have with the built environment on a daily basis. User experience is so often neglected in architectural study and practice. Architecture and Movement tackles this complex subject for the first time, providing the wide range of perspectives needed to tackle this multi-disciplinary topic. Organised in four parts it: documents the architect’s, planner’s, or designer’s approach, looking at how they have sought to deploy buildings as a promenade and how they have thought or written about it. concentrates on the individual’s experience, and particularly on the primacy of walking, which engages other senses besides the visual. engages with society and social rituals, and how mutually we define the spaces through which we move, both by laying out routes and boundaries and by celebrating thresholds. analyses how we deal with promenades which are not experienced directly but via other mediums such as computer models, drawings, film and television. The wide selection of contributors include academics and practitioners and discuss cases from across the US, UK, Europe and Asia. By mingling such disparate voices in a carefully curated selection of chapters, the book enlarges the understanding of architects, architectural students, designers and planners, alerting them to the many and complex issues involved in the experience of movement.

Download or read book Urban Scape Switzerland written by Angelus Eisinger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Settlement areas today can no longer be aptly described as either "urban" or "rural". We now live in sprawling conglomerations, collages of urban, suburban, and rural elements. New political solutions need to be found, challenging the institutional framework of federalism and the concept of local government. Commissioned by the foundation 'avenir suisse' (Think Tank for Economic and Social Issues), this publication gathers contributions by experts from the fields of sociology, geography, politics, economics and architecture, including Winy Maas' (MVRDV) vision for a Switzerland of the future. Whilst focusing on Switzerland as a case study, this book is a thought-provoking report on the gradual changes taking place in all industrialised countries. Angelus Eisinger teaches at the Department of Architecture at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. Michael Schneider is the project leader at 'avenir suisse'.
