Book Using Gaussian Process Regression to Denoise Images and Remove Artefacts from Microarray Data

Download or read book Using Gaussian Process Regression to Denoise Images and Remove Artefacts from Microarray Data written by Peter Junteng Liu and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Natural image denoising is a well-studied problem of computer vision, but still eludes sufficiently good solutions. Removing spatial artefacts from DNA microarray data is of significant practical importance to biologists, but overly simple methods are commonly used. We show that the two seemingly disparate problems of image denoising and spatial artefact removal from DNA microarrays can be solved using similar algorithms when the problems are viewed as a decomposition of the data into spatially-independent and spatially-dependent components. We discuss previously used methods and how Gaussian processes for regression (GPR) may be used to solve both problems. We present a new method employing a novel covariance function for use in GPR in the special case of twodimensional grid data. Finally, we show that our new method compares well with popular previous methods in both image denoising and microarray artefact removal applications.

Book excerpt: Image synthesis across and within medical imaging modalities is an active area of research with broad applications in radiology and radiation oncology. This book covers the principles and methods of medical image synthesis, along with state-of-the-art research. First, various traditional non-learning-based, traditional machine-learning-based, and recent deep-learning-based medical image synthesis methods are reviewed. Second, specific applications of different inter- and intra-modality image synthesis tasks and of synthetic image-aided segmentation and registration are introduced and summarized, listing and highlighting the proposed methods, study designs, and reported performances with the related clinical applications of representative studies. Third, the clinical usages of medical image synthesis, such as treatment planning and image-guided adaptive radiotherapy, are discussed. Last, the limitations and current challenges of various medical synthesis applications are explored, along with future trends and potential solutions to solve these difficulties. The benefits of medical image synthesis have sparked growing interest in a number of advanced clinical applications, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-only radiation therapy treatment planning and positron emission tomography (PET)/MRI scanning. This book will be a comprehensive and exciting resource for undergraduates, graduates, researchers, and practitioners.

Book Probing Brain Behavior Relationship with Multimodal Imaging Methods and Clinical Applications

Download or read book Probing Brain Behavior Relationship with Multimodal Imaging Methods and Clinical Applications written by Bin Jing and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-04-10 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nowadays, exploring the brain-behavior relationship via MRI, EEG, fNIRS, and MEG has become a research hotspot further accelerated by the emergence of large-sample open-source datasets, such as UK Biobank, Human Connectome Project, the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development, the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Intramural Healthy Volunteer Dataset, the TUH EEG CORPUS, and many other multimodal datasets. Many prior studies have conducted various prediction tasks in different populations (from infants to adults; from healthy subjects to patients) with miscellaneous imaging modalities, however, to construct a precise, generalizable, and reproducible brain-behavior relationship is still facing many challenges, for example, individual variability, multi-site heterogeneity, imaging result interpretability, model generalization, low prediction performance, and lack of clinical applications
