Book Remote sensing determination of evapotranspiration

Download or read book Remote sensing determination of evapotranspiration written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2023-10-23 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Near East and North Africa (NENA) Region has long faced water scarcity due to natural causes. Still, factors like population growth, food security policies, and socioeconomic development have worsened the situation in recent decades. Climate change and the food insecurity resulting from the war in Ukraine have further strained the already limited water resources in the region. To address these challenges, countries in the NENA Region seek ways to allocate scarce water resources effectively. They aim to improve water accounting, monitor water usage in strategic hydrological systems, and enhance water productivity and efficiency to save and redistribute water. One crucial aspect to consider in these efforts is water consumption, particularly in irrigated agriculture, which utilizes over 85 percent of renewable freshwater resources while remaining vital to the sustainability of the food sector and farming systems. Given the significant spatial scales involved, satellite remote sensing technology has become a valuable tool in determining evapotranspiration–water consumption. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Regional Initiative on Water Scarcity for the Near East and North Africa (WSI) has gathered top experts in evapotranspiration determination through satellite remote sensing to guide water stakeholders in the region. This initiative has also expanded to other FAO regions through the inter-Regional Technical Platform on Water Scarcity (iRTP-WS). To facilitate knowledge sharing, a series of twenty-five webinars were organized, fostering dialogue between experts and water actors. Additionally, this publication summarizes the outcomes of the webinars and provides further analysis and insights on satellite remote sensing determination of evapotranspiration. The publication aims to update the knowledge and enhance the capacity of water professionals, raise awareness of the strengths and limitations of remote sensing models and databases for evapotranspiration, and clarify operational aspects such as spatial and temporal resolutions and accuracy. Ultimately, it serves as a valuable reference for water actors and professionals working towards sustainable water resource management.

Book Remote Sensing of Evapotranspiration ET

Download or read book Remote Sensing of Evapotranspiration ET written by Pradeep Wagle and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-10-11 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evapotranspiration (ET) is a critical component of the water and energy balances, and the number of remote sensing-based ET products and estimation methods has increased in recent years. Various aspects of remote sensing of ET are reported in the 11 papers published in this book. The major research areas covered by this book include inter-comparison and performance evaluation of widely used one- and two-source energy balance models, a new dual-source model (Soil Plant Atmosphere and Remote Sensing Evapotranspiration, SPARSE), and a process-based model (ETMonitor); assessment of multi-source (e.g., remote sensing, reanalysis, and land surface model) ET products; development or improvement of data fusion frameworks to predict continuous daily ET at a high spatial resolution (field-scale or 30 m) by fusing the advanced spaceborne thermal emission reflectance radiometer (ASTER), the moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS), and Landsat data; and investigating uncertainties in ET estimates using an ET ensemble composed of several land surface models and diagnostic datasets. The effects of the differences between ET products on water resources and ecosystem management were also investigated. More accurate ET estimates and improved understanding of remotely sensed ET products are crucial for maximizing crop productivity while minimizing water losses and management costs.

Download or read book Evapotranspiration Remote Sensing written by Elizabeth Lamb and published by . This book was released on 2015-03-17 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains several well researched topics associated with various aspects and properties of evapotranspiration (ED) including remote-sensing based balancing determination and simulation of ET. These fields are the leading technologies that measure the extremely spatial ET from the planet's surface. The analysis explain technicalities of ET simulation from incompletely vegetated surfaces and stomatal conductance behavior of natural and agricultural ecosystems. A crucial review explains strategies used in hydrological structures and the applications explain ET arrangements in alpine catchments, under water shortage, under climate modification, and for grasslands and pastures. Suggested guiding principles for applying operational satellite-based energy balance models and overcoming common challenges have also been included.

Book Satellite Based Evapotranspiration Estimation Using SEBAL Model

Download or read book Satellite Based Evapotranspiration Estimation Using SEBAL Model written by Amrit Kamila and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-02 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evapotranspiration (ET) is an important part in surface energy and water balance. ET is the process where liquid water is converted into water vapor and thus removed from sources such as the soil surface, wet vegetation, pavement, water bodies, etc. Transpiration consists of the vaporization of liquid water within a plant and subsequent loss of water as vapor through leaf stomata. Remote sensing based energy balance models are presently most suited Surface Energy Balance Algorithm for Land (SEBAL), a remote sensing based ET model, was applied to Landsat TM imagery in Bankura district, a tropical region in West Bengal with heterogeneous surface conditions, for the estimation of actual ET. SEBAL model follows an energy balance approach of estimation of ET, when the net radiation, sensible heat flux and soil heat flux are known. Input for SEBAL model includes land surface parameters such as surface temperature, NDVI and albedo.
