Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As we come closer to the return of our Lord Jesus Christ there is a yearning and a burning being released upon the earth. This yearning and burning is two-fold there is a yearning for the prosperity preaching of those who seek after the filthy lucre. But there is also a burning for the kingdom of God to begin to inhabit the earth through the power of unsuspecting and unknown individuals. Free of the bondage of religion and man’s opinion God is releasing the most powerful individuals of this season with the heaviest of burdens assigned to man. The church as we know it is in complete disarray. Leaders have become prideful, arrogant, and the sheep sit senselessly beaten into a state of disarray. It is through this fear and intimidation that gifts are being abused and they are being used out of order. Everyone is ministering for attention, engagements and money. Is this what Christ died for?

Book Hannah Arendt and the Limits of Total Domination

Download or read book Hannah Arendt and the Limits of Total Domination written by Michal Aharony and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-03-05 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Responding to the increasingly influential role of Hannah Arendt’s political philosophy in recent years, Hannah Arendt and the Limits of Total Domination: The Holocaust, Plurality, and Resistance, critically engages with Arendt’s understanding of totalitarianism. According to Arendt, the main goal of totalitarianism was total domination; namely, the virtual eradication of human legality, morality, individuality, and plurality. This attempt, in her view, was most fully realized in the concentration camps, which served as the major "laboratories" for the regime. While Arendt focused on the perpetrators’ logic and drive, Michal Aharony examines the perspectives and experiences of the victims and their ability to resist such an experiment. The first book-length study to juxtapose Arendt’s concept of total domination with actual testimonies of Holocaust survivors, this book calls for methodological pluralism and the integration of the voices and narratives of the actors in the construction of political concepts and theoretical systems. To achieve this, Aharony engages with both well-known and non-canonical intellectuals and writers who survived Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps. Additionally, she analyzes the oral testimonies of survivors who are largely unknown, drawing from interviews conducted in Israel and in the U.S., as well as from videotaped interviews from archives around the world. Revealing various manifestations of unarmed resistance in the camps, this study demonstrates the persistence of morality and free agency even under the most extreme and de-humanizing conditions, while cautiously suggesting that absolute domination is never as absolute as it claims or wishes to be. Scholars of political philosophy, political science, history, and Holocaust studies will find this an original and compelling book.

Book A Lenape Among the Quakers

Download or read book A Lenape Among the Quakers written by Dawn G. Marsh and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2014-03-01 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On July 28, 1797, an elderly Lenape woman stood before the newly appointed almsman of Pennsylvania’s Chester County and delivered a brief account of her life. In a sad irony, Hannah Freeman was establishing her residency—a claim that paved the way for her removal to the poorhouse. Ultimately, however, it meant the final removal from the ancestral land she had so tenaciously maintained. Thus was William Penn’s “peaceable kingdom” preserved. A Lenape among the Quakers reconstructs Hannah Freeman’s history, traveling from the days of her grandmothers before European settlement to the beginning of the nineteenth century. The story that emerges is one of persistence and resilience, as “Indian Hannah” negotiates life with the Quaker neighbors who employ her, entrust their children to her, seek out her healing skills, and, when she is weakened by sickness and age, care for her. And yet these are the same neighbors whose families have dispossessed hers. Fascinating in its own right, Hannah Freeman’s life is also remarkable for its unique view of a Native American woman in a colonial community during a time of dramatic transformation and upheaval. In particular it expands our understanding of colonial history and the Native experience that history often renders silent.

By giving careful attention to the book's literary structures and its patterns of types and antitypes, the symbolic world of Samuel reveals a cumulative and cohesive story. Leithart's reading of Samuel enhances our understanding of New Testament Christology and gives us a framework for applying the Old Testament to our own lives, as the book comes alive as a tragic and beautiful story of the rebirth of Israel in difficult times.

Book Perspectives on Barry Hannah

Download or read book Perspectives on Barry Hannah written by Martyn Bone and published by Univ. Press of Mississippi. This book was released on 2010-03-30 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contributions by Melanie R. Benson, Thomas Ærvold, Bjerre, Martyn Bone, Mark S. Graybill, Richard E. Lee, Kenneth Millard, James B. Potts III, Scott Romine, Matthew Shipe, and Daniel E. Williams Perspectives on Barry Hannah is a collection of essays devoted to the work of the award-winning fiction writer Barry Hannah (1942–2010). The anthology features a broad range of critical approaches and covers the span of Hannah's career from Geronimo Rex (1972) to Yonder Stands Your Orphan (2001). The book also includes a previously unpublished interview with Hannah. The ten essays cover all of Hannah’s thirteen published books. The contributors give fresh perspectives on Hannah’s classic works (Airships and Ray), provide illuminating readings of important fiction that has received less critical attention (Night–Watchmen, Hey Jack!, and Never Die), and offer the first sustained criticism of Hannah’s acclaimed later fiction (Bats Out of Hell, High Lonesome, and Yonder Stands Your Orphan). As Martyn Bone explains in his introduction, the essays—though varied in approach and style—consistently hone in on the recurrent themes that characterize Hannah’s career: his relationship to postmodernism; his interrogation of traditional ideas of masculinity and heroism; his complex engagement with southern history, literature, and culture; and his growing concern with spirituality and morality. The essays in Perspectives on Barry Hannah make connections between Hannah’s work and that of several prominent modern and postmodern authors, including William Faulkner, Ernest Hemingway, James Joyce, Allen Tate, John Irving, J. M. Coetzee, and Cormac McCarthy. Contributors also consider Hannah’s fiction in relation to non-literary cultural forms such as sports, film, and popular music. Ultimately, Perspectives on Barry Hannah affirms Hannah’s status as a leading figure in contemporary American literature.

Book The Remnant of Truth Seekers

Download or read book The Remnant of Truth Seekers written by Mary Ruth Whitley and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-04-06 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have had the pleasure of living my entire life in a family of Christians. My children had many nonbelieving friends while growing up. As they individually reached out to their circle of friends, some saw the light and became believers, but not all accepted Jesus as their Savior. Others would tell one of my four children that they became Christians after watching how he or she had grown into adulthood committed to follow Christ. As a family, we would have discussions about the rapture because of Scripture or even books we read. Our concern was for our friends and relatives who never made a commitment to love the Lord. Our conversations left us wondering if (after the rapture) they would remember our talks and seek an answer, or would they just give up""believing it was too late? The Remnant of Truth Seekers "" Living God's Final Prophecies is a realistic, different, and definitely unique scenario of what might possibly occur after the rapture. Characters and locations develop as the story gains momentum. Readers will be drawn into the lives of these people as they watch them struggle and work through seven years of prophetic, biblical discovery. As truths are uncovered, they must be applied to their lives. Survival depends on community living much like the book of Acts. Life is now totally relevant to what the prophets in the Old Testament, and the apostles of the New Testament, penned for mankind. Life for the remnant parallels much of what is found in Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, and Revelation, as well as the unfulfilled prophecies in the New Testament. The end of their saga does not come at Armageddon, but when God Almighty is reigning on and in His new heaven and new earth. The Holy Bible will always define "real life" for anyone who is interested in knowing the truth!
