Download or read book All the Days Past All the Days to Come written by Mildred D. Taylor and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2020-01-07 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The saga of the Logan family--made famous in the Newbery Medal-winning Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry--concludes in a long-awaited and deeply fulfilling story. In her tenth book, Mildred Taylor completes her sweeping saga about the Logan family of Mississippi, which is also the story of the civil rights movement in America of the 20th century. Cassie Logan, first met in Song of the Trees and Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, is a young woman now, searching for her place in the world, a journey that takes her from Toledo to California, to law school in Boston, and, ultimately, in the 60s, home to Mississippi to participate in voter registration. She is witness to the now-historic events of the century: the Great Migration north, the rise of the civil rights movement, preceded and precipitated by the racist society of America, and the often violent confrontations that brought about change. Rich, compelling storytelling is Ms. Taylor's hallmark, and she fulfills expectations as she brings to a close the stirring family story that has absorbed her for over forty years. It is a story she was born to tell.

Book excerpt: This book is based on a kid, along with all his deeds from his birth till his age of 7 Years. That child wanted joy and fun in his life all the time, and whenever he felt that these frantic things were missing or going away from him, he started doing impish activities in order to bring harmony in his mind and soul. Some of his actions stood tranquil, and some imbalanced the peacefulness present in the life of other people. I would be interesting to read all the happenings that occurred in his life as a child. And most importantly, this book is for the people of all age groups and it is eminently favoured for all those people who have now started feeling bored after going through the romance-fiction books. Hope you enjoy reading this book, as it will unquestionably shove you into the memories of your childhood.

Download or read book Remembering Cold Days written by Arpad von Klimo and published by University of Pittsburgh Press. This book was released on 2018-11-06 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between three and four thousand civilians, primarily Serbian and Jewish, were murdered in the Novi Sad massacre of 1942. Hungarian soldiers and gendarmes carried out the crime in the city and surrounding areas, in territory Hungary occupied after the German attack on Yugoslavia. The perpetrators believed their acts to be a contribution to a new order in Europe, and as a means to ethnically cleanse the occupied lands. In marked contrast to other massacres, the Horthy regime investigated the incident and tried and convicted the commanding officers in 1943-44. Other trials would follow. During the 1960s, a novel and film telling the story of the massacre sparked the first public open debate about the Hungarian Holocaust. This book examines public contentions over the Novi Sad massacre from its inception in 1942 until the final trial in 2011. It demonstrates how attitudes changed over time toward this war crime and the Holocaust through different political regimes and in Hungarian society. The book also views how the larger European context influenced Hungarian debates, and how Yugoslavia dealt with memories of the massacre.

Book excerpt: Eoin O'Cellaigh: writer, poet, nationalist, playwright, civil servant, commentator (non-sport) - above all a defender of the traditional values of Ireland. The 'land of saints and scholars' has produced another grand voice. A true renaissance Catholic, Eoin O'Cellaigh has witnessed nearly a century of stirring events in the history of Ireland. This is his autobiography. O'Cellaigh enthrallingly recounts the key moments in his rich life, such as his success in bringing Pope John Paul II to Ireland, or his founding of the League of the Mother of God Against Sin, which kept jazz and modern dancing out of Irish life for most of the century. The young O'Cellaigh was marked for life by his meeting with that mythical battler for Irish independence Michael Collins, for whom he once hid sausages under the bed. As he grew older he was drawn towards the important work of censorship and campaigning against sex. In the words of Frank Sinatra, he did things, 'swell.'

Book The Brain s Way of Healing

Download or read book The Brain s Way of Healing written by Norman Doidge and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2015-01-27 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER The New York Times–bestselling author of The Brain That Changes Itself presents astounding advances in the treatment of brain injury and illness. Now in an updated and expanded paperback edition. Winner of the 2015 Gold Nautilus Book Award in Science & Cosmology In his groundbreaking work The Brain That Changes Itself, Norman Doidge introduced readers to neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to change its own structure and function in response to activity and mental experience. Now his revolutionary new book shows how the amazing process of neuroplastic healing really works. The Brain’s Way of Healing describes natural, noninvasive avenues into the brain provided by the energy around us—in light, sound, vibration, and movement—that can awaken the brain’s own healing capacities without producing unpleasant side effects. Doidge explores cases where patients alleviated chronic pain; recovered from debilitating strokes, brain injuries, and learning disorders; overcame attention deficit and learning disorders; and found relief from symptoms of autism, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and cerebral palsy. And we learn how to vastly reduce the risk of dementia, with simple approaches anyone can use. For centuries it was believed that the brain’s complexity prevented recovery from damage or disease. The Brain’s Way of Healing shows that this very sophistication is the source of a unique kind of healing. As he did so lucidly in The Brain That Changes Itself, Doidge uses stories to present cutting-edge science with practical real-world applications, and principles that everyone can apply to improve their brain’s performance and health.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of reincarnation has been around for thousands of years, and is a part of many religions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism. In addition to these religious beliefs, many people believe it offers an explanation for the mysteries of life. There are children that claim to remember previous lives as adults or even animals. These claimed memories might affect the development of the child and be incorporated into the child's personality. This book presents an in-depth look at Dr. Stevenson's forty years studying children who claim to remember previous lives. It is an informative, professional read that dispels common misconceptions about reincarnation and offers an open-minded perspective. It provides an overview of the history of the belief in and evidence for reincarnation, with new material relating to birthmarks and birth defects, independent replication studies, and recent developments in genetic study.
