Download or read book Religious Instruction in the Schools of Ontario Classic Reprint written by Ontario Department of Education and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Religious Instruction in the Schools of Ontario The subject of Religious Instruction in the Public Schools of Ontario engaged, last winter, the attention of the public to a degree which was unexpected. This was owing not to the importance of the subject, but because it was erroneously supposed that the discussion origi ted in party politics. Perhaps this was unfortunate. Still it has been of se. The controversy directed attention to the subject made men think about it, and had the effect of convincing Very many that our school law is not in some respects satisfactory and that the children attending our public schools are not receiving such instruction as they should in the Revealed Will of God. Now that the heat of political discussion has passed, it is to be hoped that the Christian public, without asking how party inter ests may be affected, will calmly consider the subject, and' unite in doing whatever may be necessary for securing to our children that teaching which, above all other, prepares them for the duties of life, and makes intelligent, law-abiding and useful citizens, as well as elevates men spiritually. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Christian Instruction in the Public Schools of Ontario It is contended, in the second place, that the hope, at one time entertained, of securing the co-education of the children of Roman Catholics and Protestants, by the exclusion of positive religious instruction from the school programme, having been disappointed; and our Roman Catholic fellow-citizens, who strenuously objected to the absence of religious instruction from the day school, having secured, as a constitutional right for all time to come, the establishment of Separate Schools, in which their children have instruction imparted to them, by legally qualified and salaried teachers, not only in the doctrines which they hold in common with Protestants, but in those in which they differ from them, it is a matter of simple justice that the Protestants of Ontario should have equal privilege, by the introduction into its Public Schools of instruction in their common Christianity - instruction, that is, in what they believe in common to be the teaching of the Word of God. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Religious Education: A Comprehensive Text Book This Text Book is the outcome of a wide demand for a complete Handbook, covering fully all phases of Religious Education in the Church. There was no such book hitherto extant. It took a library of some thirty or more volumes to cover the necessary field, as laid down in the Standard Course for teacher-training set forth by the Joint Commission on Sunday Schools. Such reading was overwhelm ing, unnecessary (for often but a few pages or precepts of a writer applied directly to Religious Education), and costly in the purchase of so many volumes. The author prepared a smaller book, Sunday School Teaching, a compilation of authorities covering 175 pages, in 1903, which has gone through three large editions in five years, being the Guide Book for the training of several thousand Sunday School teachers, of all religious bodies. Even day school educators found it suggestive and illuminat ing. It will be continued in the market. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Religious Education of Adolescents In selecting and preparing the material for this little volume, the author has intentionally avoided the exclusively academic and scholastic point of View. The needs Of parents, teachers and other adult leaders, who are facing practical problems, have been kept in mind. Indeed, many of the paragraphs were written for the express purpose Of answering questions which had been asked by per sons who were facing perplexing situations in their own homes or schools. During the past three years, the author has delivered several short courses of lectures in con munity schools Of religious education and in sum mer schools on such subjects as: The Psychology Of Adolescent Boyhood, The Religious Nurture Of Adolescent Young People, The Psychology of Religion, and Principles and Methods Of Recrea tional Leadership. As collateral reading in these courses, one monograph Of a series Of pamphlets formerly published by the American Institute of Child Life Of Philadelphia: The Government Of Adolescent Young People, prepared by William Byron Forbush, was used. The demand for it soon exhausted the third edition. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Our own thought in all that follows construes religion as a way of life and Religious Education as the process by which we teach boys and girls, men and women, to live with and for each other and unto God. We do not hesitate, therefore, to record here unequivocally our conviction that religion can be taught. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Principles of Religious Teaching Religious pedagogy is one of the newer branches of the sci ence of education. Despite the fact that teaching was made central by the Founder of Christianity both in his practice and in the Great Commission to his disciples and the further fact that many of the most notable achievements of the church through the ages have been due to the faithful exercise of this central function, modern church leaders, until very recent years, have given scant attention to the development of the princi ples and technique of religious teaching. Rapid progress has been made during the last two decades, but much pioneer work yet remains to be done. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
