Book Relaxation of Stress and Density Strength Fatigue

Download or read book Relaxation of Stress and Density Strength Fatigue written by Wolfgang Gräfe and published by Trans Tech Publications Ltd. This book was released on 2015-03-05 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This treatment of “Time-Dependent Mechanical Properties of Solids” beginswith a phenomenological description of the transport of some unspecifiedentity. It is assumed that the transport is caused by mechanical stresses ortemperature fields. Using these assumptions, it is possible to deduceformulae for a theoretically based description of several phenomena withoutreferring to any specific process or entity. These theoretical results thenprovide the tools for performing methodologically better scientific work andfor a better analysis of data in the practical application of materials. Bypublishing this work, the author hopes improve technical safety intransportation and other fields of practical materials application. Anothergoal is to stimulate the scientific investigation of a wider range ofsubstances in order to analyze more extensively the elementary processeswhich produce observed phenomena. This second edition is extended andChapter 12, five new Sections as well as the Appendices A7, A8 and A9 areadditionally inserted.

Download or read book Time dependent Mechanical Properties of Solids written by Wolfgang Gräfe and published by Trans Tech Publications Ltd. This book was released on 2008-06-29 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This treatment of “Time-Dependent Mechanical Properties of Solids” begins with a phenomenological description of the transport of some unspecified entity. It is assumed that the transport is caused by mechanical stresses or temperature fields. This hypothesis is based upon just a few well-established methods such as, for instance, the Zener theory of diffusion and the Inglis equation for stress enhancementof. Using these assumptions, it is possible to deduce formulae for a theoretically based description of several phenomena without referring to any specific process or entity.

Book Thermally Activated Mechanisms in Crystal Plasticity

Download or read book Thermally Activated Mechanisms in Crystal Plasticity written by D. Caillard and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-09-08 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: KEY FEATURES: A unified, fundamental and quantitative resource. The result of 5 years of investigation from researchers around the world New data from a range of new techniques, including synchrotron radiation X-ray topography provide safer and surer methods of identifying deformation mechanisms Informing the future direction of research in intermediate and high temperature processes by providing original treatment of dislocation climb DESCRIPTION: Thermally Activated Mechanisms in Crystal Plasticity is a unified, quantitative and fundamental resource for material scientists investigating the strength of metallic materials of various structures at extreme temperatures. Crystal plasticity is usually controlled by a limited number of elementary dislocation mechanisms, even in complex structures. Those which determine dislocation mobility and how it changes under the influence of stress and temperature are of key importance for understanding and predicting the strength of materials. The authors describe in a consistent way a variety of thermally activated microscopic mechanisms of dislocation mobility in a range of crystals. The principles of the mechanisms and equations of dislocation motion are revisited and new ones are proposed. These describe mostly friction forces on dislocations such as the lattice resistance to glide or those due to sessile cores, as well as dislocation cross-slip and climb. They are critically assessed by comparison with the best available experimental results of microstructural characterization, in situ straining experiments under an electron or a synchrotron beam, as well as accurate transient mechanical tests such as stress relaxation experiments. Some recent attempts at atomistic modeling of dislocation cores under stress and temperature are also considered since they offer a complementary description of core transformations and associated energy barriers. In addition to offering guidance and assistance for further experimentation, the book indicates new ways to extend the body of data in particular areas such as lattice resistance to glide.

Book excerpt: Integral geometry deals with the problem of determining functions by their integrals over given families of sets. These integrals de?ne the corresponding integraltransformandoneofthemainquestionsinintegralgeometryaskswhen this transform is injective. On the other hand, when we work with complex measures or forms, operators appear whose kernels are non-trivial but which describe important classes of functions. Most of the questions arising here relate, in one way or another, to the convolution equations. Some of the well known publications in this ?eld include the works by J. Radon, F. John, J. Delsarte, L. Zalcman, C. A. Berenstein, M. L. Agranovsky and recent monographs by L. H ̈ ormander and S. Helgason. Until recently research in this area was carried out mostly using the technique of the Fourier transform and corresponding methods of complex analysis. In recent years the present author has worked out an essentially di?erent methodology based on the description of various function spaces in terms of - pansions in special functions, which has enabled him to establish best possible results in several well known problems.

Book Mechanical Behavior of Materials

Download or read book Mechanical Behavior of Materials written by Thomas H. Courtney and published by Waveland Press. This book was released on 2005-12-16 with total page 750 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This outstanding text offers a comprehensive treatment of the principles of the mechanical behavior of materials. Appropriate for senior and graduate courses, it is distinguished by its focus on the relationship between macroscopic properties, material microstructure, and fundamental concepts of bonding and crystal structure. The current, second edition retains the original editions extensive coverage of nonmetallics while increasing coverage of ceramics, composites, and polymers that have emerged as structural materials in their own right and are now competitive with metals in many applications. It contains new case studies, includes solved example problems, and incorporates real-life examples. Because of the books extraordinary breadth and depth, adequate coverage of all of the material requires two full semesters of a typical three-credit course. Since most curricula do not have the luxury of allocating this amount of time to mechanical behavior of materials, the text has been designed so that material can be culled or deleted with ease. Instructors can select topics they wish to emphasize and are able to proceed at any level they consider appropriate.

Book Fatigue of Structures and Materials

Download or read book Fatigue of Structures and Materials written by J. Schijve and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-12-16 with total page 627 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fatigue of structures and materials covers a wide scope of different topics. The purpose of the present book is to explain these topics, to indicate how they can be analyzed, and how this can contribute to the designing of fatigue resistant structures and to prevent structural fatigue problems in service. Chapter 1 gives a general survey of the topic with brief comments on the signi?cance of the aspects involved. This serves as a kind of a program for the following chapters. The central issues in this book are predictions of fatigue properties and designing against fatigue. These objectives cannot be realized without a physical and mechanical understanding of all relevant conditions. In Chapter 2 the book starts with basic concepts of what happens in the material of a structure under cyclic loads. It illustrates the large number of variables which can affect fatigue properties and it provides the essential background knowledge for subsequent chapters. Different subjects are presented in the following main parts: • Basic chapters on fatigue properties and predictions (Chapters 2–8) • Load spectra and fatigue under variable-amplitude loading (Chapters 9–11) • Fatigue tests and scatter (Chapters 12 and 13) • Special fatigue conditions (Chapters 14–17) • Fatigue of joints and structures (Chapters 18–20) • Fiber-metal laminates (Chapter 21) Each chapter presents a discussion of a speci?c subject.
