Download or read book The Relationship Between Principals Transformational Leadership Practices and Teachers Motivation in Selected Islamic Private Schools in Songkhla Southern Thailand written by Natyada Wanlabeh and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between principals' transformational leadership and teachers' motivation as perceived by teachers in the context of Islamic private schools in Songkhla, Southern Thailand. This study also investigates whether teachers' demographic characteristics such as age, gender, marital status, and years of teaching experience, impact their perceptions toward principals' transformational leadership practices. The study uses survey questionnaire to collect data and analyzes the data using descriptive statistics, regression analysis, and one way ANOVA. The respondents are 174 teachers from six selected Islamic private schools in Songkhla. The findings indicate that teachers perceive their principals exhibited transformational leadership more frequently than transactional leadership. Idealized influence (IIB & IIA) and inspirational motivation (IM) are found to be the greatest leadership practices among the principals, and individual consideration (IC) and intellectual stimulation (IS) are rated lowest among transformational leadership aspects. The results of the regression analysis indicate that teachers' motivation is significantly related to principals' transformational leadership practices. The findings demonstrate that individual consideration factor (IC) highly affect all dimensions of teachers' motivation, including attitude towards work, commitment/effort, challenge, and professional development; inspirational motivation behaviour (IM) impact on increasing teachers' positive attitude towards work, commitment or effort to teach, and challenge, and the idealized influence (IIA and IIB) are relative to teachers' attitude towards teaching, effort or commitment, and professional development. However, no significant relationship between principals' intellectual stimulation (IS) factor and teachers' motivation is found in this study. The findings from one way ANOVA reveal gender, marital status, and age of teachers effect their perceptions toward the principals' transformational leadership practices. Single, female teachers aged between 30 to 45 years old view principals displaying more transformational leadership than do the other groups. Based on these findings, implications are that current emphasis on transformational leadership for school effectiveness, improving teachers' motivation and increasing students' achievement are moving toward the right direction, which authorities should give more support, especially to intellectual stimulation and individual consideration aspects of principals.

Book Interactive Effects of Principal s Leadership Styles and Quality Assurance Initiative on Teacher Commitment in the Islamic Private Secondary Schools in Southern Thailand

Download or read book Interactive Effects of Principal s Leadership Styles and Quality Assurance Initiative on Teacher Commitment in the Islamic Private Secondary Schools in Southern Thailand written by Nasruddeen Hatyida-Oh and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 824 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main purpose of the study is to investigate the interactive effects of principal's leadership styles (INTELS) Principal Transformational Leadership Style (PTLS) and Principal Strategic Leadership Style (PSLS)] and Quality Assurance Initiatives (QAI) on Teacher Commitment (TC) in the Islamic Private Secondary Schools in Southern Thailand. The study also attempted to measure the strength of mediating variable, quality assurance initiatives on the relationship between principal leadership styles and teacher commitments in the schools concerned. As the study was a quantitative in nature, the sample size was 553 (95% confidence interval and ± 4%) represented by Muslim teachers from the Islamic Private Secondary Schools in three provinces (Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat), in Southern Thailand. This study utilized the two-steps analysis of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) techniques. The first four research questions were addressed by analyzing all four measurement models and the study found that the proposed constructs namely PTLS, PSLS, QAI and TC items were loaded significantly into their respective constructs. In the next step of SEM technique, the fifth and sixth research questions were addressed by evaluating and re-specifying the hypothesized model. The results indicated that the re-specified model was very encouraging with the values of X2/df = 2.684, TLI = 893, CFI = .901, GFI = .850, IFI = .90 and RMSEA = .054. From the re-specified model of the study, it was found that PTLS and PSLS factors influenced TC. The model also revealed that only two factors of PTLS, namely visionary (V) and individual orientation (IO) directly influenced TC and four factors of PSLS, namely wisdom (WD), strategic orientation (SO), strategic competence (SC) and strategic translation (ST) directly influenced TC. As for the research questions number 7, 8 and 9, the study proved that the mediating variable, QAI did not significantly influence the relationships between PTLS and PSLS with TC. Finally, the study managed to prove that the hypothesized model fit to the data and hence represent the model of the study. Some of the practical implications are that some aspects of the PTLS and PSLS are deemed important to the principals of the Islamic Private Secondary Schools in Southern Thailand and to the policy makers concerned in their strategies to improve the survivability of the Islamic Private Secondary Schools in Southern Thailand. Theoretically, the study managed to contribute to the literature in terms of the need of the principals of the Islamic Private Secondary Schools in Southern Thailand to practice some factors of PTLS and PSLS for the betterment of the schools concerned. The novelty of the study indeed related to the modern strategies that can be used effectively in improving the Islamic Private Secondary Schools in southern Thailand particularly the PTLS and PSLS.

Book The Relationship Between Teachers Perception Towards Their Leadership Capacity and School Climate in the Lovers of the Cross of Ubon Ratchathani Schools Thailand

Download or read book The Relationship Between Teachers Perception Towards Their Leadership Capacity and School Climate in the Lovers of the Cross of Ubon Ratchathani Schools Thailand written by Watcharaporn Nakpansa and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this research was to determine the relationship between teachers' perceptions towards their leadership capacity and school climate in five selected schools under the leadership of the Lovers of the Cross of Ubon Ratchathani Congregation, Thailand. The researcher used the high leadership capacity instrument adopted from Kujur (2016), and based on Lambert's (2003) Leadership Capacity School Survey (LCSS), as well as the Schools' Organizational Climate Survey (SOCS) adopted from Josaphat (2005). The results of this study showed that there was both a strong and significant relationship between the teachers' perceptions towards their leadership capacity and their school climate in the respective schools. This study discussed those respective findings and found that school improvement and student achievement could be better facilitated by increasing teacher leadership capacity and improving the educational effectiveness through the implementation of a more conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning. The teachers and administrators were recommended to identify methods to develop and offer greater opportunities for teachers to facilitate shared ideas, enhance workplace engagement opportunities, develop methods of coherent discussion, as well as to assist and support each other to achieve the school goals. This research suggested that the achievement of these recommendations could be done by developing the communication within the learning community, engaging and inspiring students, collaborating more between shareholders to strengthen leadership capacities and to ultimately improve the school climate within the school. To facilitate this, it was proposed that teachers should revamp their teaching-learning processes through professional development and training, in order to raise teachers' commitment and devotion to each individual learner.

Book Conflict Management Among Principals at Islamic Private Secondary Schools in Yala Province Thailand

Download or read book Conflict Management Among Principals at Islamic Private Secondary Schools in Yala Province Thailand written by Apitree Adulpakdee and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the perceptions of principals and teachers toward conflict management at Islamic private secondary schools in Yala province, Thailand. Conflict is an inevitable situation in any organization including schools and this has challenges principals' abilities to resolve conflict. Principals who can manage conflicts in school effectively and efficiently will be able to foster a favorable teaching-learning environment which is conducive to learning. In this study, mix methods: survey and interview have been employed in order to obtain its objectives. The survey was distributed to 11 principals and 302 teachers through convenient sampling method and 6 out of 11 principals were interviewed using semi-structured interview. The findings revealed that all 11 schools confronted with some conflicts but the level of conflicts were not severe or uncontrolled and principals solved each conflict using various methods depending on the conflict situation. The types of conflict in schools were categorized into 4 types as follows: principal and teacher, teacher and teacher, teacher and student, and teacher and students' parents. There were three major causes of conflict in schools which were derived from different perceptions, ambiguously defined as responsibilities and different working styles. The methods and effective strategies that were used in managing and resolving conflict in schools depended heavily on the situation. However, two theories have been applied which were: 1) five conflict-handling modes by Thomas-Kilmann and 2) conflict cycles concept by Robinson-Difonso. As a result, several recommendations have been suggested for principals to improve the relationships between non-Muslim and Muslim teachers without bias and religious barriers, provide various complaining alternatives and state clearly teachers' responsibilities for each work. A future study has been recommended to evaluate the perception of teachers by interviewing them for eliciting information, pointing out a comparison between Islamic private secondary schools and public schools in the same provinces and comparing conflict management in schools between Muslim majority provinces such as Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat and Muslim minority province such as Bangkok.

Book Principals Transformational Leadership Behavior and Teachers Job Satisfaction of Secondary Schools Under Chukha District Bhutan

Download or read book Principals Transformational Leadership Behavior and Teachers Job Satisfaction of Secondary Schools Under Chukha District Bhutan written by and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to examine the level of principals{u2019} transformational leadership behavior and teachers{u2019} job satisfaction of secondary school teachers, and determine the relationship between the principals{u2019} transformational leadership behavior and secondary school teachers{u2019} level of job satisfaction. Pearson{u2019}s correlation coefficients and Multiple Regression Analysis were carried out to find to what degree transformational leadership predicts their teachers{u2019} job satisfaction, while personal factors were studied as a dummy variable. This study was carried out for secondary school teachers teaching in the Chukha district, Bhutan, where the secondary school teachers{u2019} perceptions and judgments were used as the basis for these study findings. The sample group consisted of 227 teachers from a total population of 527. Taro Yamane formula was applied to determine the sample size. This study was carried out employing a quantitative approach through survey questionnaires. The school principals{u2019} transformational leadership behaviors were analyzed based on the concept of Bass and Avolio, and the level of secondary school teachers{u2019} job satisfaction was determined through Herzberg{u2019}s Two-Factor Theory. The findings indicated that the school principals in the Chukha district behaved with a high degree of transformational leadership satisfaction as perceived by the secondary school teachers, and the secondary school teachers were found to be highly satisfied with their work. The results also indicated that there was a significant positive correlation between the principals{u2019} transformational leadership and the level of secondary school teachers{u2019} job satisfaction. Further, it also revealed that transformational leadership was the lone predictive factor that can predict teachers{u2019} job satisfaction, while the personal factors were shown as insignificant except in the case with masters degree graduates, which was shown to be significant. This finding will be useful to the policymaker at both the school and ministry level, so that they can excel leadership qualities for the school principals and increase the level of job satisfaction of secondary school teachers. This should prevent job dissatisfaction and lead to a better quality of education in Bhutan.

Book Transformational Leadership and Hong Kong Teachers Commitment to Change

Download or read book Transformational Leadership and Hong Kong Teachers Commitment to Change written by Huen Yu and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study investigated the impact of principals' transformational leadership on teachers' commitment to change in primary schools in Hong Kong in 1998. The relationship between teachers' perceptions of principals' transformational leadership and teachers' commitment to change was explored and measured. Four research questions were developed for this study. Two questionnaires developed and tested by Leithwood were used. Questionnaire survey data from teachers were gathered in mid 1998 from 112 aided primary schools. The size of the samples used in the analysis of the study at the school level was 107. At the teacher level, the sizes of the samples for the "leadership questionnaire" and "change process questionnaire" were 1140 and 952 respectively. Using a combination of exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, the construct validity of variables in the study were established and the instruments were empirically supported. Correlation, analysis of variance, t-test, linear regression analysis, standard regression analysis and sequential regression analysis were used to analyze the data. The research questions were answered. A framework of the conception of teachers' perceptions of principals' transformational leadership and teachers' commitment to change was formed. The findings in this study indicated that teachers' perceptions of principals' transformational leadership did give rise to teachers' commitment to change. Factors "goal" and "vision" had more effects on teachers' professional commitment than other transformational leadership dimensions. The effect of in-school conditions was much greater than that of transformational leadership. All three unalterable variables, organizational, principal and teacher characteristics, were found to have significant effects on teachers' perceptions of principals' transformational leadership. Six significant predictors, namely, leader academic qualification, leader gender, school size, school sponsoring body, teacher age and teacher post, were found. In addition, comparisons between findings of this study and Leithwood et al's studies were reported. Claims of some recent research relevant to the findings of this study were discussed. Implications for future research and practices in this area were given. It is hoped that this study could have significant contributions to the development of transformational leadership, teachers' commitment, leadership perceptions and the implementation of change.

Book Strengthening Instructional Leadership Competencies in a Thai Private Secondary School

Download or read book Strengthening Instructional Leadership Competencies in a Thai Private Secondary School written by Watana Vinitwatanakhun and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Current knowledge in the field of educational administration has emphasized the role of technology and how it can assist teachers to increase student academic achievement, but there lacks in popularity a familiar and academically-focused framework suitable for principals to assist teachers in their professional role. This research utilized the Principal Instructional Management Rating Scale by Hallinger to (1) identify teachers' demographics, and (2) their perception towards the quality of principal leadership in order to (3) compare these perceptions to teachers' demographic factors, so that a determination might be considered on what areas lack development and what measures could be taken to strengthen them. This study measured teachers' demographics according to age, gender, years of work experience with their principal, as well as the total years of teaching experience at a private Thai high school. The results illustrated that many of the job-functions have a direct impact on others, while the principal's physical presence is key to Developing the School Learning Climate Program, Managing the Instructional Program, and Defining the School Mission. In particular, younger teachers believed their principal to be underperforming and lacking observable leadership skills. The implications demonstrated that the majority of all the ten principal job-functions were comparatively lower than previous studies completed in Western jurisdictions. Since the findings have contributed to the understanding of principal instructional leadership by establishing the negative implications it can have on overall institutional practice.
