Book Factoring Ideals in Integral Domains

Download or read book Factoring Ideals in Integral Domains written by Marco Fontana and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides a wide-ranging survey of, and many new results on, various important types of ideal factorization actively investigated by several authors in recent years. Examples of domains studied include (1) those with weak factorization, in which each nonzero, nondivisorial ideal can be factored as the product of its divisorial closure and a product of maximal ideals and (2) those with pseudo-Dedekind factorization, in which each nonzero, noninvertible ideal can be factored as the product of an invertible ideal with a product of pairwise comaximal prime ideals. Prüfer domains play a central role in our study, but many non-Prüfer examples are considered as well.

It introduces the most important kinds of algebraic structures, and helps them improve their ability to understand and work with abstract ideas. New and revised exercise sets are integrated throughout the first four chapters. A more in-depth discussion is also included on Galois Theory. The first six chapters provide engineers and computer scientists with the core of the subject and then the book explores the concepts in more detail.

Book Integral Domains Inside Noetherian Power Series Rings Constructions and Examples

Download or read book Integral Domains Inside Noetherian Power Series Rings Constructions and Examples written by William Heinzer and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2021-10-08 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Power series provide a technique for constructing examples of commutative rings. In this book, the authors describe this technique and use it to analyse properties of commutative rings and their spectra. This book presents results obtained using this approach. The authors put these results in perspective; often the proofs of properties of classical examples are simplified. The book will serve as a helpful resource for researchers working in commutative algebra.

Book Quadratic Number Theory

Download or read book Quadratic Number Theory written by J. L. Lehman and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2019-02-13 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quadratic Number Theory is an introduction to algebraic number theory for readers with a moderate knowledge of elementary number theory and some familiarity with the terminology of abstract algebra. By restricting attention to questions about squares the author achieves the dual goals of making the presentation accessible to undergraduates and reflecting the historical roots of the subject. The representation of integers by quadratic forms is emphasized throughout the text. Lehman introduces an innovative notation for ideals of a quadratic domain that greatly facilitates computation and he uses this to particular effect. The text has an unusual focus on actual computation. This focus, and this notation, serve the author's historical purpose as well; ideals can be seen as number-like objects, as Kummer and Dedekind conceived of them. The notation can be adapted to quadratic forms and provides insight into the connection between quadratic forms and ideals. The computation of class groups and continued fraction representations are featured—the author's notation makes these computations particularly illuminating. Quadratic Number Theory, with its exceptionally clear prose, hundreds of exercises, and historical motivation, would make an excellent textbook for a second undergraduate course in number theory. The clarity of the exposition would also make it a terrific choice for independent reading. It will be exceptionally useful as a fruitful launching pad for undergraduate research projects in algebraic number theory.
