Book excerpt: Esta obra se estructura en seis líneas y parte de una conceptualización en la temática de los residuos, reconociendo sus definiciones y clasificaciones, enmarcadas en cuatro grandes grupos: residuos sólidos, peligrosos, de atención en salud y otras actividades y de aparatos eléctricos y electrónicos. Propone un concepto de gestión integral de residuos, analiza principios ambientales y sanitarios en la gestión e identifica actores sociales con sus principales roles. Expone, además, el panorama general de la gestión de residuos en Colombia, sus impactos y riesgos asociados, para adentrarse en el marco político y jurídico, resaltando en él las políticas nacionales, el enfoque de la reglamentación y el análisis general de la realidad en su aplicación. A partir de este marco se extraen los instrumentos de planificación más utilizados en Colombia, para concretar acciones de gestión de residuos. Este texto invita a hacer de la gestión integral de residuos una oportunidad para mejorar la realidad ambiental del país y contribuir con su desarrollo sostenible.
