Among these was mentioned refractivity. The logical suggestion arose: that if hydration takes place in solution, such hydration, since it alters chemical composition, such produce a change in refractive index. Some work was immediately done on the problem, and the result seemed to indicate that such was the case. A search of the literature failed to reveal any work in which the temperature - hydration relations of aqueous solutions had been studied by use of the refractometer.
