Book Reflections of a Soldier and Servant

Download or read book Reflections of a Soldier and Servant written by F. Dean Nemecek and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a WWII veteran and a minister of the gospel, Dean Nemecek knew what it meant to be a good soldier and a good servant of Jesus Christ. He served in the 100th Infantry Division as part of the Allied Expeditionary Forces in Europe, earning the Bronze Star for meritorious service. He served for 56 years in the gospel ministry. So, when a serious illness kept him homebound for the last three years of his earthly journey, Dean pocketed his marching orders and kept right on serving his Lord through the written word. Drawing on years of experience, Dean began composing weekly devotionals that he faithfully sent to family and friends. Recipients looked forward to those weekly emails, and Dean was a blessing to many as his words travelled across six continents. In October 2007, Dean finished his race and went home to heaven, where most certainly he was greeted by his Lord with the words "Well done, good and faithful servant." As a celebration of his life and service, his weekly devotionals are compiled here in the order he wrote them. His wisdom and conversational tone are a remembrance of a life lived to the glory of God, and a lasting tribute to the spirit of the Greatest Generation. After WWII, Dean Nemecek returned to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He married Sylvia in 1949, and for the next 58 years they were partners in life and ministry. Dean pastored churches in Illinois and Michigan before becoming Dean of Students at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, New York. Retiring in 1988, he continued to minister as interim pastor for churches in western New York until 2004. Failing health kept him homebound until his death in October 2007.

Book Reflections of a Servant Leader

Download or read book Reflections of a Servant Leader written by Alfred K. Flowers and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-06-12 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growing up in a family of sharecroppers in the segregated South in the 1950s and '60s, Al Flowers never dreamed of becoming a history-maker. Lying in his bed late at night and looking up at the sky through the holes in the tin roof of his four-room home perched among the tobacco fields of eastern North Carolina, he just yearned to find some way out of poverty. At 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Earning a pay of $94 per month at his first assignment as a warehouseman in North Dakota, he put aside $30 of his monthly check to save for his future and to someday buy a proper home for the grandmother who loved and raised him. He believed that if he worked hard, followed the rules and demonstrated the right attitude no matter where he was sent or what he was asked to do, he might eventually retire as a Chief Master Sergeant. He did not meet that goal-he soared much, much higher! Overcoming every challenge and obstacle in his path, he became an officer after 13 years as an enlisted man and went on to earn an impeccable reputation as a trusted servant leader. When he finally retired, Alfred K. Flowers had risen to the rank of Major General whose last assignment had been to manage the entire $170 billion annual Air Force budget. He was hailed as the longest serving airman in the history of the Air Force, and the longest-serving active-duty African American in all the branches in the history of the Defense Department. How did he come so far from his roots mired in extreme economic, educational and social hardship? In his own words, Major General Flowers chronicles his astounding American success story. Along the way, he shares the wisdom he has gained about perseverance, commitment, leadership and what it means to be a dedicated servant for our country. Today, Major General Flowers travels all across the U.S. and beyond inspiring men and women of all ages and backgrounds to summon the courage to lift themselves out of any hardship and challenge they may face and go after their true goals and dreams. In this book, he extends the same inspirational message, while also providing valuable lessons on leadership and seasoned advice on how to navigate a military career for those who choose to serve. Finally, he conveys a passionate reminder to never forget those who have loved, supported and guided you along your path to success.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A young woman chosen as the crown prince’s bride must travel to the royal palace to meet her new husband—but her world is shaken when she discovers the dark truth the royal family has been hiding for centuries—in this lush fantasy debut perfect for fans of Song of Silver, Flame Like Night and Violet Made of Thorns. Princess Ying Yue believed in love...once upon a time. Yet when she’s chosen to wed the crown prince, Ying’s dreams of a fairy tale marriage quickly fall apart. Her husband-to-be is cold and indifferent, confining Ying to her room for reasons he won’t explain. Worse still are the rumors that swirl around the imperial palace: whispers of seven other royal brides who, after their own weddings, mysteriously disappeared. Left alone with only her own reflection for company, Ying begins to see things. Strange things. Movements in the corners of her mirror. Colorful lights upon its surface. And when, on the eve of her wedding, she unwittingly tears open a gateway, she is pulled into a mirror world. This realm is full of sentient reflections, including the enigmatic Mirror Prince. Unlike his real-world counterpart, the Mirror Prince is kind and compassionate, and before long Ying falls in love—the kind of love she always dreamed of. But there is darkness in this new world, too. It turns out the two worlds have a long and blood-soaked history, and Ying has a part to play in the future of them both. And the brides who came before Ying? By the time they discovered what their role was, it was already too late.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paul Cowley grew up in Manchester amid the chaotic world of his alcoholic parents. His early exposure to heavy drinking, explosive arguments and the unnerving aggression of his father led him into homelessness and crime. By seventeen he was behind bars. Years later, following a career in the army which 'made a man of him' yet ultimately failed to give him direction and purpose, Paul's search for meaning resulted in an unexpected encounter with God that changed his life for ever. This remarkable and touching account of his early years, from thief to prisoner, soldier and, eventually, priest, should inspire anyone who feels their life is out of control. It is, by turns, a dramatic, traumatic and comic story, yet one that stands as a testament to how God offers hope to all who have the courage to respond.
