We are members of the International Society of Poets, the Academy of American Poets, the New York Poetry Forum and the Rockland County Haiku Society. We have been published in many national and international anthologies. There is a CD of our poetry, and we have been on the internet at Rocklandworldradio.com. Jeanne received an award for first place in the Mainichi Daily News of Tokyo, Japan, for her haiku poetry, and we have been featured readers in New York and New Jersey. Our poetry is many faceted. It is about our lives, our home, nature, current events and even about grandchildren. We conduct readings at the northern Metropolitan Nursing Home in Monsey, New York, and the Castle Point Veterans Hosprtal in Beacon, New York. We have helped to create a Krystallnacht Program at the Holocaust Museum and Study Center in Spring Valley, New York. We have helped to teach a poetry class at the Bergen Community College in Paramus, New Jersey. We have a novella and eight books of poetry. We are working on our ninth book of poetry and a play. Our poetic autobiography seems so short. Everything is written in one paragraph. Now thirty-five years later we can reflect on our beginning writing poetry. An autobiography so short and so is life. We have two children and three grandchildren, along with five cats over the years. We have traveled to Israel, Spain, Italy, and England, and been published in many national and international anthologies.

Book excerpt: Somewhere over the Fragrance of Linden Trees Mr. Radu Şerban is one of the most representative Haijin in Europe who grasped the spirit of HAIKU. He always says that the simple transplant of HAIKU from Japanese to other languages is not desirable. Yes, we should not do so by only imitating the format of Japanese HAIKU. But we, all people of the world, are able to share the very spirit of HAIKU, in essential meaning. One of the most important spirit of HAIKU is the coexistence of people with nature, moreover the assimilation of them. And another one is the quintessence of simple poetry-haiku. Mr. Radu Şerban says, the “simplicity” gives the power to survive in this increasingly sophisticated world and the power to unite each other in this incredibly alienated society. Yes, HAIKU has the potential to resist these tendencies of the modern world. I can find Mr. Şerban’s spirit of HAIKU everywhere in this book of poem “Reflections.” I opened a page indiscriminately, then found the page fulfilled with fragrance of linden trees. For me fragrance of linden is “the sign of Erewhon.” strong fragrance's arm above the linden tree's crown knocks at my window. The simple strong words can make realistic imagination to the reader, we can say “Look! here is the HAIKU spirit.” Then, I opened another page. To my surprise, there happened to appear a linden Poem again. As if they are playing in a miniature, several bees are swarming, dancing and singing summer coming songs. swarming in round dance the bees and linden flowers– droning fragrances. To paint a miniature by a simple shining word is an unmistakable method of HAIKU. Indeed, Mr. Radu Şerban must be a humble member of Basho’s diaspora in the world! Book excerpt: We-Susan Chapman (Nasus) and Judi Hays (Iduji)-unknowingly started working on Reflections of Friendship: Gentle Words in Haiku in June of 2002, when Susan introduced Judi to The Tale of Murasaki, by Liza Dalby. We read the book at the same time, so that we could discuss it with one another in our emails. The story of Murasaki, a Japanese poet and author living in 11th-century Japan, inspired us to write our own haiku, since woven throughout the book were haiku poems written and sent by Murasaki and her friends. Reflections of Friendship: Gentle Words in Haiku is a collection of the ordinary moments of our lives (from July of 2002 to July of 2003) transformed into the poetry of haiku. We hope you enjoy our "contemporary" haiku, written with respect to and in the spirit of the ancient poets. Most Respectfully, Nasus and Iduji

For Centuries Japanese poets have used haiku to tell stories, many of which reflect nature and the changing of seasons. Book Three Hundred and Twenty One Haiku

Download or read book Three Hundred and Twenty One Haiku written by Michael J Lee and published by . This book was released on 2020-06-20 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of the haiku poem is minimalistic: to crystallise the power of insights into a strict structure and short sequence of words. They capture instants of time in the life of a poet. This volume of over three hundred haiku describes these moments in time with maximum discipline, for a haiku has its own timeless code of expression which the poet must obey. In this work, Michael J. Lee observes nature, society and himself caught up in their passage through time. The bulk of the poems were written during the seasons, challenges and breakthroughs of one year. There are also many verses of pure spiritual contemplation. Three Hundred and Twenty-One Haiku is a kind of journal of a personal journey through life, sensitively recording impressions, thoughts, sensory experiences and insights, and even acts of worship, as they occurred, permeated with the freshness of each passing moment, such as during a visit to the beach, or just watching pets and creatures in the garden. He depicts a range of emotional states of mind from loneliness and fear to love and peacefulness There are also small cameos of his home town of Cape Town and of his nation, South Africa. This engaging anthology covers themes as varied as the Big Bang and the laws of nature, in addition to reflections on the Creator-God and on time and change. With a tone of intimacy never far away, there are poems to his wife, haiku about the signs of the times we live in, with its phoniness and showmanship, as well as affectionate portraits of a glorious kingdom of nature.

Book excerpt: In Reflections, RC Clermont uses the 'English' 17-syllable haiku form. In an age of too much information, Reflections deploys the 5-7-5 format to achieve brevity. Traditionally, haiku focuses on themes such as nature and the seasons In this collection of fifty 17 -sound haiku verses, RC Clermont has departed from this rule. Reflections comments on themes such as family dysfunction, particularly the consequences of relations' attempts to dominate their 'blood'. Other themes explored are: love and friendship, economic malaise and inequality, as well as the crass, crude, materialism of suburban England. Reflections also takes a swipe at capitalism, the shallowness of riches, and how money does not make people more respectable. Reflections also takes a more critical view of the green lawns and fairways of Middle England, and the bigotry and hypocrisy therein, as well as the hell that is the England football supporter. The English abroad are also observed at their worst. Reflections also delivers a critique on the stark reality of global politics and so-called democracy. Reflections is part of a series, and the first collection of poems is now available in traditional book format for the first time. and is also available in Amazon Kindle. Occasionally, there may be strong language
