Book excerpt: I have always been quick to compile words in stories. I have already had a book publish: Reflections Poems and Verse - FarMor Publishing Company ISBN 978-0-9767862-7-6 I am a Primary School Teacher and the book was inspired by the lack of detail in the children's writing that I experienced while marking their stories. I started the story so that I could get them more engaged. I got engrossed in it so I completed the story hence the need to have it published. I live in Leyton, London, England and have been leaving here for the last 35 years. I am originally from Trinidad but I am a British citizen. I am divorced but have been living with my spouse for over twenty years together with a daughter of 13 and a son aged 21.

Merle herself possesses something magical: a mirror whose surface is water. She can reach her whole arm into it and never get wet. But Venice is under siege by the Egyptian Empire; its terrifying mummy warriors are waiting to strike. All that protects the Venetians is the Flowing Queen. Nobody knows who or what she is—only that her power flows through the canals and keeps the Egyptians at bay. When Merle and Serafin overhear a plot to capture the Flowing Queen, they are catapulted into desperate danger. They must do everything they can to rescue the Queen and save the city—even if it means getting help from the Ancient Traitor himself.

Book excerpt: This exhilarating collection of essays is the product of a lifetime's engagement with Jane Austen's writing. They are modest, searching, wonderfully perceptive essays from which all lovers of Jane Austen, the most knowledgeable as well as those who have just discovered her, will have much to learn. They are essays that send us back to the novels with a renewed understanding of Jane Austen's extraordinary achievement. Prof. Richard Cronin, University of Glasgow This volume presents an exhilarating and insightful collection of essays on Jane Austen – distilling the author’s deep understanding and appreciation of Austen’s works across a lifetime. The volume is both intra- and inter-textual in focus, ranging from perceptive analysis of individual scenes to the exploration of motifs across Austen’s fiction. Full of astute connections, these lively discussions hinge on the study of human behaviour – from family relationships to sickness and hypochondria – highlighting Austen’s artful literary techniques and her powers of human observation. Jane Austen: Reflections of a Reader by (the late) Nora Bartlett is a brilliant contribution to the field of Jane Austen studies, both in its accessible style (which preserves the oral register of the original lectures), and in its foregrounding of the reader in a warm, compelling and incisive conversation about Austen’s works. As such, it will appeal widely to all lovers of Jane Austen, whether first-time readers, students or scholars.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A soldier lives in fear for their life, day after day, in a combat zone - how can they really describe to someone what that feels like?It is hard to capture in a narrative. Through the medium of poetry, Eddie Morales intuitively expresses the essence of those battles, both in combat, and the secondary battle once the veteran returns home.Reflections of War, Part 1, is a series of compassionate poems that express the feelings and sensations of the combat veteran. This book is a powerful journey into a battlefield of the heart and soul, as the poetry lives out the searing pain and hardship of the soldier in war. Then - the soldier comes home from war, and the pain and strife should be over. But the war lives on in their mind, evocatively expressed in poetry by the author. After returning home, there is a second battle to fight - the scars on the psyche that must be dealt with - or they can have dangerous consequences. Eddie Morales is not a combat veteran. He has had numerous interviews with veterans, during which he has listened with intent, to hear the world of the warrior. He put that on paper so forcefully that combat veterans nod and say, "he gets it."The author is a martial arts instructor and former law enforcement officer and has honed his skills of expression carefully, to share the stories in his poems.

Book Japanese Reflections on World War II and the American Occupation

Download or read book Japanese Reflections on World War II and the American Occupation written by Edgar A. Porter and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an unforgettably honest account of the effects of World War II and the ensuing American occupation in Japan's Oita prefecture, from the perspective of the Japanese citizens who experienced it. Through harrowing firsthand accounts from more than forty Japanese men and women who lived in the region, we get a strikingly detailed picture of the dreadful experiences of wartime life in Japan. The interviewees are wide-ranging and include students, housewives, nurses, teachers, journalists, soldiers, sailors, Kamikaze pilots, and munitions factory workers. And their collective stories range from early, spirited support for the war on to more reflective later views in the wake of the devastating losses of friends and family members to air raids, and finally into periods of hunger and fear of the American occupiers. Detailed archival materials buttress the personal accounts, and the result is an unprecedented picture of the war as felt in a single region of Japan.

Book Daily Reflections

Download or read book Daily Reflections written by A a and published by . This book was released on 2017-07-27 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book of reflections by A.A. members for A.A. members. It was first published in 1990 to fulfill a long-felt need within the Fellowship for a collection of reflections that moves through the calendar year--one day at a time. Each page contains a reflection on a quotation from A.A. Conference-approved literature, such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, As Bill Sees It and other books. These reflections were submitted by members of the A.A. Fellowship who were not professional writers, nor did they speak for A.A. but only for themselves, from their own experiences in sobriety. Thus the book offers sharing, day by day, from a broad cross section of members, which focuses on the Three Legacies of Alcoholics Anonymous: Recovery, Unity and Service. Daily Reflections has proved to be a popular book that aids individuals in their practice of daily meditation and provides inspiration to group discussions even as it presents an introduction for some to A.A. literature as a whole.
