Book Redemptorists of Cuenca

Download or read book Redemptorists of Cuenca written by Antonio Quesada and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In an especially sad and difficult epoch of the history of Spain, far from the political disputes of the time, twenty-one Spanish Redemptorists died as victims of religious persecution. It was persecution unleashed in that country in the decade of the 1930s. These Redemptorists died simply for being religious, for being missionaries, for remaining firm in their faith and firm in their Christian vocation. A process of beatification is underway to recognize all of them as witnesses for the faith. For six of them, the Redemptorist martyrs of Cuenca, the process has been completed and, upon their being beatified on October 13, 2013, they have been presented to us as models of what Christian discipleship has come to mean in recent times. They are admirable witnesses of the faith. They have put on the line their very lives. They are Frs. José Javier Gorosterratzu, Ciriaco Olarte, Miguel Goñi, Julian Pozo, and Pedro Romero, and Brother Victoriano Calvo. To read the story of their lives, stories that have been gathered together in this book with fidelity and affection is an exercise that will bring us to a particularly splendid moment in the history of the Redemptorists of Spain. It will, above all, help us to know men of robust faith, of joyful hope, of impressive missionary zeal, of admirable courage which radiated the Gospel out from the church of San Felipe de Neri in Cuenca"--

They have shaped world history and continue to influence us through their presence in films, television, novels, and popular culture. This encyclopedia provides a unique resource on the philosophical, historical, religious, and cross-cultural conceptions of miracles that cut across denominational lines. Multidisciplinary in approach, this informative yet entertaining encyclopedia covers major aspects of miraculous phenomena through more than 150 alphabetically arranged entries that document how humanity's belief in religious miracles over multiple places, periods, and faiths have affected society—even changed the course of history. Written for high school students and general readers, the coverage enables readers to learn about different civilizations and cultures, the controversies surrounding different beliefs, and the often uncomfortable engagement of religion with science. This single-volume book provides a one-stop ready-reference that addresses a broad variety of subject matter on miraculous phenomena and guides further investigations into the subject. Helpful illustrations and lucid explanations of the ancillary concepts associated with miraculous phenomena make learning about this topic more engaging. Readers will be able to link the doctrinal concepts, such as "grace" or "prayer," with the descriptions of miraculous events, especially those associated with saints or holy objects. The examination of the controversial aspects of different belief systems along with the book's balanced coverage of the interpretation of miracles will encourage students to weigh different explanations, thus fostering the development of their critical thinking skills.

Book Structural Analysis of Historical Constructions

Download or read book Structural Analysis of Historical Constructions written by Rafael Aguilar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-08-18 with total page 2518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Structural Analysis of Historical Constructions (SAHC) that was held in Cusco, Peru in 2018. It disseminates recent advances in the areas related to the structural analysis of historical and archaeological constructions. The challenges faced in this field show that accuracy and robustness of results rely heavily on an interdisciplinary approach, where different areas of expertise from managers, practitioners, and scientists work together. Bearing this in mind, SAHC 2018 stimulated discussion on the new knowledge developed in the different disciplines involved in analysis, conservation, retrofit, and management of existing constructions. This book is organized according to the following topics: assessment and intervention of archaeological heritage, history of construction and building technology, advances in inspection and NDT, innovations in field and laboratory testing applied to historical construction and heritage, new technologies and techniques, risk and vulnerability assessments of heritage for multiple types of hazards, repair, strengthening, and retrofit of historical structures, numerical modeling and structural analysis, structural health monitoring, durability and sustainability, management and conservation strategies for heritage structures, and interdisciplinary projects and case studies. This volume holds particular interest for all the community interested in the challenging task of preserving existing constructions, enable great opportunities, and also uncover new challenges in the field of structural analysis of historical and archeological constructions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order, then, to attach ourselves to this great means of salvation, we must first of all consider how necessary it is to us, and how powerful it is to obtain for us all the graces that we can desire from God, if we know how to ask for them as we ought. Hence, in the first part, we will speak first of the necessity and power of prayer; and next, of the conditions necessary to make it efficacious with God. Then, in the second part, we will show that the grace of prayer is given to all; and there we will treat of the manner in which grace ordinarily operates. Aeterna Press

Book Finding Our Way to God

Download or read book Finding Our Way to God written by Dennis Joseph Billy and published by . This book was released on 2018-06 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finding Our Way to God offers an approach to spiritual direction using mental prayer that can be used to create healing and peace when conducting guidance sessions with seekers. Based on the teachings of St. Alphonsus Liguori, the founder of the Redemptorists, Fr. Dennis Billy's approach examines the moral life in the context of spiritual direction. While thoroughly Catholic, St. Alphonsus was so pastoral -- focusing on the poor and marginalized -- that the approach can be easily learned and used by adherents of other religious, philosophical, and ethical traditions. In Finding Our Way to God, Fr. Dennis Billy: Teaches active listening, which is essential for spiritual directors. Emphasizes the continuity between a person's spirituality and morality through growth in the virtues and gifts of the Holy Spirit. Provides an understanding of how the model of spiritual direction can be adapted to meet the needs of a wide variety of people. Helps the reader use Alphonsian spirituality as a backdrop for conducting spiritual direction.

Book The Devotion and Promotion of Stigmatics in Europe c 1800 1950

Download or read book The Devotion and Promotion of Stigmatics in Europe c 1800 1950 written by Tine Van Osselaer and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2020-10-12 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the nineteenth century a new type of mystic emerged in Catholic Europe. While cases of stigmatisation had been reported since the thirteenth century, this era witnessed the development of the ‘stigmatic’: young women who attracted widespread interest thanks to the appearance of physical stigmata. To understand the popularity of these stigmatics we need to regard them as the ‘saints’ and religious ‘celebrities’ of their time. With their ‘miraculous’ bodies, they fit contemporary popular ideas (if not necessarily those of the Church) of what sanctity was. As knowledge about them spread via modern media and their fame became marketable, they developed into religious ‘celebrities’.
