Book excerpt: In this time of ecological crisis, all that is holy calls us into a more intimate partnership with the diverse and beautiful beings of this earth. In Finding Our Way Home, Myke Johnson reflects on her personal journey into such a partnership and offers a guide for others to begin this path. Lyrically expressed, it weaves together lessons from a chamomile flower, a small bird, a copper beech tree, a garden slug, and a forest fern, along with insights from Indigenous philosophy, environmental science, fractal geometry, childhood Catholic mysticism, the prophet Elijah, fairy tales, and permaculture design. This eco-spiritual journey also wrestles with the history of our society's destruction of the natural world, and its roots in the original theft of the land from Indigenous peoples. Exploring the spiritual dimensions of our brokenness, it offers tools to create healing. Finding Our Way Home is a ceremony to remember our essential unity with all of life.

Download or read book One with Spirit written by Mykl and published by . This book was released on 2017-03-05 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I had finished A Course in Miracles (ACIM) and lived it for a number of years. I was then guided by my internal teacher (Spirit) to move further with my spiritual development. This guide is the outcome of that journey.Your journey may have taken a different direction. However you got to here, you are now interested in continuing your spiritual development. I hope you find this guide as useful to you as it is to me.I seem to have little in common with most authors of spiritual books. I come from a science and engineering background, so early in the guide I introduce myself and my journey. That is followed by my take on A Course in Miracles. The Course provided a great leap forward for me, as well as giving structure to my spiritual growth. Next I delve into a bit of science. Looking at how Quantum Physics, and other sciences, support the concepts of spirituality. We then explore practices for awareness, meditation and healing. These are supported with advice and guidance on reinventing yourself, relationships, responsibility and living spiritually. Finally we cover subjects including life's purpose, dying and death, truth, living with Spirit and enlightenment. I believe that my experiences, thoughts and ideas can contribute to your spiritual journey. For me they have delivered a life changing experience during the last ten years. The guide is based on my findings, my feelings, my beliefs and my truths. I use these as ideas and concepts that may help you establish your own beliefs and your own truths. I don't claim to have all the answers or even to be particularly adept in my own spirituality. So, please take and use what you want and feel comfortable with. Reject what you don't want or are uncomfortable with. Ignore the rest. Most people seem to think being spiritual is serious stuff. I believe it is the opposite. I believe we are meant to be happy, joyful, full of laughter and at peace. So throw away the rule book and enjoy the ride. Finally we have only one hurdle to get over. What we think of as everything; does not really exist! It is a figment of our imagination. It is an illusion. It is not real. We made it up like a Star Trek Holo-deck. We manifested it so we could have this experience we call a life. Simple! Now let's get on with the guide.

Book Psychosocial Pathways Towards Reinventing the South African University

Download or read book Psychosocial Pathways Towards Reinventing the South African University written by Sabrina Liccardo and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-11-02 with total page 567 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book proposes a conceptual-empirical framework for exploring forms of continuity and change along psychosocial pathways in South African universities. It illustrates how the psychosocial pathways are grounded in the symbolic narratives and knowledges of young scientists, engineers and architects - all interlocutors in the research from which this book is based. Alala, Mamoratwa, Welile, Odirile, Kaiya, Amirah, Takalani, Nosakhele, Naila, Ambani, Khanyisile, Itumeleng, Ethwasa and Kgnaya provide collective standpoints in the multiplicities within and between the lived lives and told stories of young Black South African women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. In doing so, this compelling work advances possibilities for demythologising scientific endeavour as a white male achievement and shifting knowledge communities across gendered, racialised, class and national divides. This book presents an innovative narrative methodology, utilising the myth of the Minotaur to examine the state of the university at the heart of the hierarchical labyrinth in “post”-apartheid South Africa. Throughout the work the author wrestles with and self-reflexively highlights her own positionality as a white, middle-class South African woman to examine how this affects the production of this research in ways which serve to preserve the colonial knowledge system. With the rise of the Rhodes Must Fall and Fees Must Fall student movement in South Africa, demanding for the fall of institutionalised racial hierarchies, the author uses the cover image of narrative formations in the spirit of exploration to think with and through undulating networked forms that could possibly forge new psychosocial pathways towards decolonising and reinventing South African universities. This work offers a unique conceptual and methodological resource for students and scholars of psychosocial and narrative theory, as well as those who are concerned about the politics of higher education, both in South Africa and in other contexts around the world.

Download or read book Redefined written by Dave Taylor and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2013-11-14 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Defining momentswe all have them. All of us can look back and remember moments when events occurred and decisions were made that drastically altered the course of our lives. Defining moments shape our perception of the world, and they become major forces in defining who we are and what we are capable of. They become the scales by which we measure our worth. Our reality is anchored in our interpretation of those moments, and how we respond to them often determines how we respond in life. Mankinds fall from glory in the garden of Eden was a catastrophic event of epic proportions, one of the great defining moments in human history. It altered the course of humanity and redefined who we were at our core. Before the Fall, we were sons and daughters in paradise; after the Fall, we were orphans and strangers in exile. Our interpretation of that one event has shaped our self-identity. And our interpretation of Gods words and actions in the midst of the event has shaped our perception of who he is and the nature of his heart toward us. Redefined chronicles a journey back to the time of the orphaning of the human heart. It dares to reinterpret the story in the light of the smile of Abba God. It offers the hope that if Adams darkest moment can be redefined, then our darkest moments can as well. But the ramifications are huge. For the life of Christ and his work on the cross will never look the same to us again. And our excuses for remaining powerless against the enemy will be lost forever.

Download or read book The Triple Path written by James Kenneth Rogers and published by The Church of the West. This book was released on 2020-06-21 with total page 717 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There's a crisis of meaning in the modern world. How many of us yearn for something, without knowing exactly what? We've lost something, straying in a world of distractions. Society's increasing secularization has stripped the sacred from our lives and culture, jettisoning much that is bright and good in exchange for dark, dull substitutes. Every human society has had religion — has needed religion. It is foolish to think ours is any different. But at the same time, the ancient cosmologies and doctrines of the world's major religions appear to be in ever-greater conflict with modern discoveries, making traditional religion feel increasingly dissatisfying and irrelevant to growing numbers of people. The Triple Path offers a solution—it revives the most ancient branch of Christianity, Adoptionism, while harmonizing and reconciling our great Western heritage with modernity. It weaves together the ancient wisdom of the ages with modern insights, but with an emphasis on keeping as much as possible of the teachings and practices of Western tradition and faith. It beckons to us, inviting us to draw closer to God by seeking Wisdom, practicing Virtue, and laboring with Hope. When you honestly appraise yourself and your life, could you be aiming higher? Perhaps existence is calling to you to do more, to be more. Perhaps the Triple Path is calling to you to take up the challenge and embark on a spiritual quest. Test its fruits for yourself. Rediscover the sacred. Come back to religion and God.

A rabbi, teacher of rabbis, and a theologian, Borowitz has been an important spokesperson for non-Orthodox forms of Judaism, Reform Judaism in particular. Over seven decades, Borowitz has explored the centrality of God in Jewish existence, the normative force of Jewish law, the meaning of the Covenant, the distinctiveness of Jewish life, and the meaning of Jewish personhood for non-Orthodox Jews. Adopting the language of religious existentialism, he has reflected on the relational nature of human existence, on the one hand, and human self-determination on the other. Rethinking God and Ethics presents influential essays by Borowitz and explains his contribution to Jewish religious thought in the 20th century. Brill mourns the death of Professor Eugene Borowitz, of blessed memory, in January 2016. The LCJP honors his valuable contribution to Jewish theology, ethics, and education.
