Book Recycling MIL H 46170 Hydraulic Fluid to Extend Fluid Service Life

Download or read book Recycling MIL H 46170 Hydraulic Fluid to Extend Fluid Service Life written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report documents the laboratory efforts in proving that used hydraulic fluid could be recycled by removing contaminants and mixing with new fluid. Once the used fluid has been filtered to remove solid particulate contamination and de-humidified to bring the moisture content below 500 ppm water, it can be mixed with new fluid in a 75:25 ratio to bring the fluid mixture up to specification performance. The recycled used fluid by itself could not pass the foaming characteristic requirement thus requiring re-inhibition. Instead of adding more anti-foaming agent to the fluid, the decision was made to mix recycled fluid with new fluid to provide the re-inhibition effect. Mixing in new fluid results in an enhancement of all additive performance and eliminated any possible problems with adding too much or too little anti-foaming agent. These efforts set the standards for evaluating commercial recycling units that can recycle hydraulic fluid on a large scale and also establish doctrine for successfully extending the service life of used hydraulic fluid. jg.

Book Hydraulic Fluid Recycling Field Demonstration

Download or read book Hydraulic Fluid Recycling Field Demonstration written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This final report documents the results of laboratory and field evaluations of commercially available recycling units for recycling MlL-HA6l 70 hydraulic fluid. Previous laboratory efforts demonstrated used hydraulic fluid could be restored to specification performance by removing water and particulate contaminants and mixing with 25% new fluid. The field demonstration confirmed this by demonstrating fluid performance in test vehicles. Used fluid was drained from the vehicles, processed through approved recycling equipment, mixed with 25% new fluid, and returned to vehicle service. The vehicle performance was monitored for six months with satisfactory results. In addition, other batches of used fluid were processed through the recycling equipment and analyzed for performance. Results of these additional analysis confirm that used fluid retains most of its additive performance with the exception of antifoaming ability, but that the addition of the 25% new fluid restored the cleaned up used fluid to specification performance. Lessons learned during the demonstration are identified in the report with the most important lesson being the need for clean processing containers.

Book Breakdown of Preservative Fluid MIL PRF 46170 in Aircraft Hydraulic Systems

Download or read book Breakdown of Preservative Fluid MIL PRF 46170 in Aircraft Hydraulic Systems written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document summarized a series of laboratory tests performed to identify material forming on hydraulic system filters of fleet aircraft. Additional information obtained from outside sources is also summarized for background. Laboratory pump testing showed rapid filter dogging with small amounts of preservative fluid (MU-PRF-46l70) in the system. Similar conditions with 100% hydraulic fluid (MIL-PRF-83282) did not clog filters at these rates. Preservative fluid at elevated temperatures showed breakdown, increase in acid number, and chemical attack of test coupons while hydraulic fluid alone does not degrade. Preservative fluid is not compatible with operating aircraft hydraulic systems.

Book Compatibility of Single Hydraulic Fluid With Military Specification Fluids Seals and Metallurgy

Download or read book Compatibility of Single Hydraulic Fluid With Military Specification Fluids Seals and Metallurgy written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report documents the results of compatibility studies designed to determine the compatibility of Single Hydraulic Fluid (SHF) with currently used military specification hydraulic fluids (MIL-H- 6083, MIL-H-46170), elastomer seals, and hydraulic system metallurgy. The evaluations consisted of subjecting various elastomer samples including nitrile, polyacrylate, and fluorocarbon to SHF by itself and SMF mixed at various percentages with MIL-H-6083 and MrL-H46170, determining their volume and hardness change, then immediately subjecting them to immersion in SHF. The elastomers were again examined for any net change in hardness and volume after the sequential immersion. Finally, SHF compatibility was tested with the elastomers and the metallurgy in each other's presence to determine if any decomposition in elastomers or fluid or metallurgy occurs. It was found that SHF is fully compatible with MIL-H-6083 and MIL-H-46170 and the existing metallurgy. SHF was also found to be completely compatible with 5 of the 6 elastomers tested. The only exception was fluorosilicone which exhibited anomalous behavior in the sequential fluid testing. It performs well in SHF by itself and when immersed in fluid mixtures of SHF and MIL-H-6083 or MIL-H-46170, yet it exhibited significant shrinkage when subjected to SHF after immersion in the other fluids. This behavior cannot be explained in the scope of this evaluation. Further examination will be required to determine if fluorosilicone seals can be used successfully with SHF. (AN).

Book Development of a Single Hydraulic Fluid for Use in Army Ground Equipment

Download or read book Development of a Single Hydraulic Fluid for Use in Army Ground Equipment written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A polyalphaolefin/ester-based fire resistant hydraulic fluid was developed to replace three existing military specification fluids currently used by Army equipment. The single hydraulic fluid (SHF) combines the low temperature operability exhibited by MIL-H-5606 (OHA) and MIL-H-6083 (OHT) with the fire resistance exhibited by MIL-H-46170 (FRH). SHF provides low temperature viscosities of 3500 cSt maximum at -54 deg C, a flash point of 180 deg C minimum, a minimum elastomer swell of 19% for NBR-L rubber, a maximum operating temperature of 135 deg C, and significantly improved corrosion protection. SHF eliminates the use of barium and tricresyl phosphate (TCP) which removes the toxic and environmental hazard restrictions of the current military specification fluids. The developmental formulations meet all performance requirements targeted for a single Army hydraulic fluid. Candidate fluids are currently being tested in armor and artillery as a final evaluation before transitioning of the fluid to the military supply system.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John E. Mylroie and Ira D. Sasowsky' Caves occupy incongruous positions in both our culture and our science. The oldest records of modem human culture are the vivid cave paintings from southern France and northern Spain, which are in some cases more than 30,000 years old (Chauvet, et ai, 1996). Yet, to call someone a "caveman" is to declare them primitive and ignorant. Caves, being cryptic and mysterious, occupied important roles in many cultures. For example, Greece, a country with abundant karst, had the oracle at Delphi and Hades the god of death working from caves. People are both drawn to and mortified by caves. Written records ofcave exploration exist from as early as 852 BC (Shaw, 1992). In the decade of the 1920's, which was rich in news events, the second biggest story (as measured by column inches of newsprint) was the entrapment of Floyd Collins in Sand Cave, Kentucky, USA. This was surpassed only by Lindbergh's flight across the Atlantic (Murray and Brucker, 1979).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hardback, 328 pages, Color Cover, BW interior From the book: One hundred and fifty years after the fall of civilization, the members of the Morrow Project wake to a changed world. Without the modern transit and communications infrastructures, distances that once took hours, now take weeks, and news that once traveled in milliseconds now takes months to arrive, if ever. This new world is characterized by tiny hamlets of simple daily existence awash in a sea of barbarism and anarchy. The Morrow Project could not prevent the coming catastrophe, nor did they have the resources to help everyone immediately. It was possible to help with the rebuilding, but even this was a massive undertaking. Plan became action and over the years many well-trained teams were cryogenically frozen in hidden bunkers to emerge at the time when their resources and help could do the most good. Intended to be part of an organized plan to rebuild America, your team finds that they have missed the 3-5 year expected wake-up call. Now, far outside the original time frame and unable to contact the rest of the project, they must start alone the process that was intended for thousands. Isolated in a world where the war is only a distant legend, your team must rely on their ingenuity, training and each other to carry out the general orders of the project: 1. Assist the population in rebuilding America whenever possible. 2. Reunite with the bulk of the Morrow Project forces. 3. Survive! The Morrow Project may be played with nothing other than this book, dice, paper and pencil. Included in this book are full details on Morrow Project teams, vehicles, equipment, modern weapons, complete medical details, people and creatures living in the post-holocaust world, and more.
