Book Process Risk and Reliability Management

Download or read book Process Risk and Reliability Management written by Ian Sutton and published by Gulf Professional Publishing. This book was released on 2014-09-11 with total page 798 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last twenty years considerable progress has been made in process risk and reliability management, particularly in regard to regulatory compliance. Many companies are now looking to go beyond mere compliance; they are expanding their process safety management (PSM) programs to improve performance not just in safety, but also in environmental compliance, quality control and overall profitability. Techniques and principles are illustrated with numerous examples from chemical plants, refineries, transportation, pipelines and offshore oil and gas. This book helps executives, managers and technical professionals achieve not only their current PSM goals, but also to make the transition to a broader operational integrity strategy. The book focuses on the energy and process industries- from refineries, to pipelines, chemical plants, transportation, energy and offshore facilities. The techniques described in the book can also be applied to a wide range of non-process industries. The book is both thorough and practical. It discusses theoretical principles in a wide variety of areas such as management of change, risk analysis and incident investigation, and then goes on to show how these principles work in practice, either in the design office or in an operating facility. The second edition has been expanded, revised and updated and many new sections have been added including: The impact of resource limitations, a review of some recent major incidents, the value of story-telling as a means of conveying process safety values and principles, and the impact of the proposed changes to the OSHA PSM standard. Learn how to develop a thorough and complete process safety management program. Go beyond traditional hazards analysis and risk management programs to explore a company's entire range of procedures, processes and management issues. Understand how to develop a culture of process safety and operational excellence that goes beyond simple rule compliance. Develop process safety programs for both onshore facilities (EPA, OSHA) and offshore platforms and rigs (BSEE) and to meet Safety Case requirements.

Book Offshore Safety Management

Download or read book Offshore Safety Management written by Ian Sutton and published by William Andrew. This book was released on 2013-11-22 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Offshore Safety Management, Second Edition provides an experienced engineer's perspective on the new Safety and Environmental System (SEMS) regulations for offshore oil and gas drilling, how they compare to prior regulations, and how to implement the new standards seamlessly and efficiently. The second edition is greatly expanded, with increased coverage of technical areas such as engineering standards and drilling, and procedural areas such as safety cases and formal safety assessments. The new material both complements the SEMS coverage and increases the book's relevance to a global audience. Following the explosion, fire, and sinking of the Deepwater Horizon floating drilling rig in April 2010, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulations, and Enforcement (BOEMRE) issued many new regulations. One of them was the Safety and Environmental System rule, which is based on the American Petroleum Institute's SEMP recommended practice, finalized in April 2013. Author Ian Sutton explains the SEMS rule, and describes what must be done to achieve compliance. Each of the twelve elements of the SEMS rule (such as Management of Change and Safe Work Practices) is described in the book, and guidance is provided on how to meet BOEMRE requirements. Detailed explanation of how to implement the new SEMS standard for offshore operations Ties the new regulations in with existing safety management approaches, helping managers leverage existing processes and paperwork With CEOs now signing off on compliance paperwork, this book provides expert insights so you can get SEMS compliance right the first time

Book Ship Shaped Offshore Installations

Download or read book Ship Shaped Offshore Installations written by Jeom Kee Paik and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-01-15 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ship-shaped offshore units are some of the more economical systems for the development of offshore oil and gas, and are often preferred in marginal fields. These systems are especially attractive to develop oil and gas fields in deep and ultra-deep water areas and remote locations away from existing pipeline infrastructures. Recently, the ship-shaped offshore units have been applied to near shore oil and gas terminals. This 2007 text is an ideal reference on the technologies for design, building and operation of ship-shaped offshore units, within inevitable space requirements. The book includes a range of topics, from the initial contracting strategy to decommissioning and the removal of the units concerned. Coverage includes both fundamental theory and principles of the individual technologies. This book will be useful to students who will be approaching the subject for the first time as well as designers working on the engineering for ship-shaped offshore installations.

Book Illustrated Aquatic Rescue Techniques

Download or read book Illustrated Aquatic Rescue Techniques written by Leonardo Springer and published by . This book was released on 2019-10 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Illustrated Guide of Aquatic Rescue Techniques. Rescue operations are by definition an unpredictable set of events (surroundings, ocean conditions, victims, resources, rescue equipment, service provider, etc.), all with different variables that by itself or combined make rescue possible. Regardless of appropriate training and the usage of appropriate equipment, water rescue and subsequent extraction are never linear procedures. Each situation and victim is inherently different, and so, adjustments need to be made each time. Quite often, lifeguard skills develop from an accumulative on-the-job experience. Initial understanding and awareness of environmental conditions, physical training, rescue techniques and proficient communication skills, are key competences. Further understanding of rescue techniques and medical sciences, life-saving equipment, environmental conditions, multi-victim scenarios, operational procedures, legal issues, entities involved in rescue operations, and in-water proficiency, are usually a matter of years on the job practice and training. Lifeguards, firefighters, mountain rescue, first responders, combat casualty care and ambulance personnel are involved in rescue operations and deal with emergencies on a regular basis assembling experience. It was this know-how, training and analysis, gathered from several emergency practices and services that led to the development of such rescue techniques. This work is the result of an applied design research, devised to communicate a set of procedures and recommendations effectively to a specific audience to help save lives.
