Book Calibration of a Past Year Demand Model for Model Evaluation

Download or read book Calibration of a Past Year Demand Model for Model Evaluation written by David F. Pearson and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this project was to perform an evaluation of the ability of the current modeling process in Texas to forecast travel behavior and patterns within the context of a controlled experimental design. The project attempted to calibrate travel demand models using travel surveys conducted in the San Antonio-Bexar County area in 1969. These models would then be applied to forecast travel behavior and patterns for the years 1980 and 1990, with the results compared to observed conditions. Due to data limitations, researchers did not consider the model developed for 1970 acceptable in terms of meeting the calibration criteria that were established. This negated the application of the model to 1980 and 1990 since the results could not be interpreted with any confidence. A number of recommendations on the model information needs for retention in future model calibration/validation efforts are made. The recommendations provide the basis for examining travel demand models within controlled conditions as a routine part of the modeling process.

Book Innovations in Travel Demand Modeling

Download or read book Innovations in Travel Demand Modeling written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On May 21 through 23, 2006, the Transportation Research Board (TRB) convened the Innovations in Travel Demand Modeling Conference in Austin, Texas. The conference was sponsored by the following agencies, organizations, and companies to provide an opportunity for a frank exchange of ideas and experiences among academics, model developers, and practitioners: TRB, FHWA, FTA, the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority, the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority, PBS & J-Austin, URS Corporation, and HNTB Corporation. Approximately 220 individuals from across the transportation research community at national, state, regional, and local levels and from the public and private sectors and academia participated. The last major conference on specialty travel demand modeling was held as part of the U.S. Department of Transportation's Travel Model Improvement Program (TMIP) in the fall of 1996. At that time, there was little research and no practical application of land use models and activity-based travel demand models and their integration with demographic, economic, and network modes. Since then, there has been a literal revolution in travel demand forecasting.

Book Travel Forecasting Guidelines

Download or read book Travel Forecasting Guidelines written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Implementing transportation improvements requires a significant effort that may involve several levels of planning; social, economic and environmental documentation; geometric and structural design; operations analysis; signalized intersection design; and/or pavement design. Accurate and timely traffic estimates and forecasts are basic to the entire transportation planning process and are essential to enable the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to effectively meet the mobility needs of the state. This guide provides an introduction to the transportation planning and travel demand forecasting requirements and establishes the policies, processes and methodologies for developing traffic forecasts for the various stages of TxDOT project development.

Book Manual for the Interactive Training System for Texas Travel Models

Download or read book Manual for the Interactive Training System for Texas Travel Models written by George B. Dresser and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Texas Package of travel demand forecasting programs is a mainframe mathematical model for forecasting travel in urban areas in the state of Texas. Interactive Lotus 1-2-3 spreadsheet templates have been developed to provide case study examples of the mathematical functions used in the Texas Package. This manual is intended for use by the Texas Department of Transportation offices, Metropolitan Planning Organizations, municipalities, counties, and consultants contracted by public agencies in the state of Texas for training employees in the theory and application of the Texas Package travel demand forecasting model. The information contained in the Lotus 1-2-3 modules can be used to train new staff members or to refresh employees who have been minimally exposed to the travel demand forecasting process. The models and formulas contained in the spreadsheet templates are not solely applicable to the Texas models but are examples of standard travel modeling practices used in other states as well.

Book Texas Travel Forecasting Annotated Bibliography

Download or read book Texas Travel Forecasting Annotated Bibliography written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This bibliography is part of an on-going research project between the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). The bibliography has attempted to include all significant reports prepared by the Institute in support of urban transportation travel demand modeling and forecasting practice in Texas. An annotation is provided for those reports which still may be of interest to practitioners. Several reports which are now obsolete due to improvements in computer technology are included for completeness and historical interest. In addition several reports prepared by TxDOT which bear directly on travel demand modeling practice are included. The Department reports are not complete and users of this bibliography are requested to provide the Institute with copies of Department reports not presently included so that they may be included in future revisions. The bibliography is organized into six sections: trip generation, trip distribution, traffic assignment, travel surveys, air quality analysis, and overview. Reports are placed in each section according to the phase of modeling covered by the report. However, since the modeling phases are interdependent, most reports will cover aspects of more than one phase. Reports which clearly cover more than one modeling phase are placed in the overview section.

Book The Travel Behavior of Minority Cohorts in Texas

Download or read book The Travel Behavior of Minority Cohorts in Texas written by Gustavo A. Jimenez Vera and published by ProQuest. This book was released on 2007 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Texas is changing dramatically; the most conservative population forecast indicates that Hispanics will account for 50% of the Texas population before 2035. Not only is the number of Hispanics on the rise in Texas, but also the foreign-born share has increased dramatically over the last 15 years. The State of Texas is now a majority minority state, and minority cohorts are expected to grow and become more than 65% of the Texas population before 2035. Transportation professionals in the State of Texas are wondering how these demographic changes will affect the transportation system. To gain an understanding of this, one must consider the prevalent travel behavior and attitudes of these minority groups, their cultural preferences, and their traveling mode preferences. This research provides an understanding of the travel behavior of Texas' burgeoning minority cohorts, and assists in identifying potential transportation policy concerns. For this analysis the National Household Travel Survey (NHTS) Add-On for the State of Texas is used, because it allows us to examine respondents by race/ethnicity and immigrant status. This study also helps determine how the travel behavior of minority cohorts may impact the state's transportation system in the near future, and possible implications to travel demand models are offered. In addition, this research attempts to foster further research on the travel behavior of burgeoning minority populations within the State of Texas. This study provides descriptive statistics, and multivariate models that examine the travel behavior of minority cohorts.
