To think critically about what you read and hear is a vital skill for everyone, whether you are a student or not. When we are faced with texts, news items or speeches, what is being said is often obscured by the words used and we may be unsure whether our reasoning, or that of others, is in fact sound. By the end of this topical and exercise-based introduction to critical thinking, you will be able to: * identify flaws in arguments * analyse the reasoning in newspaper articles, books or speeches * approach any topic with the ability to reason clearly and to think critically This stimulating new introduction to reasoning will appeal to all those who would like to improve their reasoning skills, whether at work, in class or in the seminar.

Book The Conclusion of the Sexual Revolution

Download or read book The Conclusion of the Sexual Revolution written by Wylark Day and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2004-05-18 with total page 666 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book about sexual morality. Not a morality based on shame or tradition, however; but one based on combining the most up-to-date findings of sex researchers, with the most ancient teachings of the Judeo-Christian Bible. In this book, you will find that: Private masturbation and public nudity are the two Pillars, upon which all healthy attitudes towards Sex must be based. Faithful heterosexual monogamy is God's Plan for Sex, but a minority who deviate from this Plan (such as homosexuals) are nonetheless necessary for a whole society. And that Virgin Sex for young adults - which means enjoying sex play while rejecting intercourse - is the Key to: true romantic passion, equality between the sexes, and even to the very Future of Humanity. At last! A book that tells the truth about Sex and God.

  • Pages : 231 pages

Download or read book The God Conclusion written by Keith Allen and published by Strategic Book Publishing. This book was released on 2012-02-01 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The God Conclusion is a chapter-by-chapter rebuttal of the infamous book The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins, perhaps the most well-known religion hater of all time. It includes quotes from famous people throughout history, and it references the works of those not afraid to tell the whole truth about the glaring flaws in Darwinism or the Big Bang Theory. The God Conclusion was written to expose the angry atheists of the world for what they really are: charlatans, bullies, and pseudo-scientific frauds who malign and mock everyone religious (but mostly Christians) and treat them as idiots. It is time for the good people to take a stand against these godless terrorists, because turning the other cheek has only encouraged their arrogance. Enough is enough!

Book The Conclusion to the Whole Matter

Download or read book The Conclusion to the Whole Matter written by Paul Douglas Castle and published by WestBowPress. This book was released on 2014-02-11 with total page 574 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the author of The Conclusion to the Whole Matter, I conclude its a risk of emotions to read this book. Because The Conclusion to the Whole Matter is a two-edged sword that cuts through myths, pagan practices, abominations, and the detestable traditions of men that are manifested in our society, and also in the churches of God. The Conclusion to the Whole Matter will stir up different emotions in all readers that read its contents, because The Conclusion to the Whole Matter will not let you see the world of Christianity as you once imagined it to be. The rose-colored glasses that most people view Christianity through may not seem so rosy after reading The Conclusion to the Whole Matter. But The Conclusion to the Whole Matter is the whole truth based on the word of God. In our society today men abhor the truththey twist and veil it in darkness and insincerity. The Conclusion to the Whole Matter unveils hidden things that professing Christians might wish would stay hidden from the light. The contents of this book are devoted to the feelings and emotions of God. The Bible consists of approximately 782,000 words. The Conclusion to the Whole Matter is summed up in six words. But its taken me approximately 190,000 words to put definition to The Conclusion to the Whole Matter. In the last days it will be 144,000 men of God and a flying angel who preach the last gospel on earth. The last gospel preached will be The Conclusion to the Whole Matter.

Book The Repugnant Conclusion

Download or read book The Repugnant Conclusion written by Christopher Cowie and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-11-18 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Repugnant Conclusion is a controversial theorem about population size. It states that a sufficiently large population of lives that are barely worth living is better than a smaller population of high quality lives. This is highly counter-intuitive. It implies that we can improve the world by trading quality of life for quantity of lives. Can it be defended? Christopher Cowie explores these questions and unpacks the controversies surrounding the Repugnant Conclusion. He focuses on whether the truth of the Repugnant Conclusion turns - as some have claimed - on the uncomfortable claim that many people’s lives are actually bad for them and that even privileged people lead lives that are only just worth living. Highly recommended for those interested in ethics, applied ethics and population studies The Repugnant Conclusion will also be of interest to those in related disciplines such as economics, development studies, politics and international relations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most people (including moral philosophers), when faced with the fact that some of their cherished moral views lead up to the Repugnant Conclusion, feel that they have to revise their moral outlook. However, it is a moot question as to how this should be done. It is not an easy thing to say how one should avoid the Repugnant Conclusion, without having to face even more serious implications from one's basic moral outlook. Several such attempts are presented in this volume. This is the first volume devoted entirely to the cardinal problem of modern population ethics, known as 'The Repugnant Conclusion'. This book is a must for (moral) philosophers with an interest in population ethics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: AS Critical Thinking for AQA is the definitive textbook for students of the current AQA Advanced Subsidiary Level syllabus. Structured very closely around the AQA specification, it covers the two units of the AS level in an exceptionally clear and student-friendly style. The chapters are helpfully subdivided into short digestible passages, and include: intended learning objectives at the beginning of each chapter student exercises at the end of each section with a ‘stretching activity’ for more advanced learners exam orientated questions key point summaries at the end of each section cross references. In line with the AQA specification, there is a heavy emphasis on more imaginative forms of source material, for example, music, film, artwork, historical documents, adverts, moral dilemmas and scientific debates, as a means of illustrating key points. A great deal of emphasis is also placed on ‘live’ or ‘real’ arguments, taking topical examples from the world of science, politics, entertainment and sport. Book Higher Order Thinking in Science Classrooms Students Learning and Teachers Professional Development

Download or read book Higher Order Thinking in Science Classrooms Students Learning and Teachers Professional Development written by Anat Zohar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-01-31 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can educators bridge the gap between "big" ideas about teaching students to think and educational practice? This book addresses this question by a unique combination of theory, field experience and elaborate educational research. Its basic idea is to look at science instruction with regard to two sets of explicit goals: one set refers to teaching science concepts and the second set refers to teaching higher order thinking. This book tells about how thinking can be taught not only in the rare and unique conditions that are so typical of affluent experimental educational projects but also in the less privileged but much more common conditions of educational practice that most schools have to endure. It provides empirical evidence showing that students from all academic levels actually improve their thinking and their scientific knowledge following the thinking curricula, and discusses specific means for teaching higher order thinking to students with low academic achievements. The second part of the book addresses issues that pertain to teachers' professional development and to their knowledge and beliefs regarding the teaching of higher order thinking. This book is intended for a very large audience: researchers (including graduate students), curricular designers, practicing and pre-service teachers, college students, teacher educators and those interested in educational reform. Although the book is primarily about the development of thinking in science classrooms, most of it chapters may be of interest to educators from all disciplines.

A central work both in Kierkegaard's authorship and in the history of philosophy, the Postscript breaks completely with a long tradition of religious and philosophical thought. Book Kierkegaard s Writings XII Volume II

Download or read book Kierkegaard s Writings XII Volume II written by Søren Kierkegaard and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2013-04-21 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Philosophical Fragments the pseudonymous author Johannes Climacus explored the question: What is required in order to go beyond Socratic recollection of eternal ideas already possessed by the learner? Written as an afterword to this work, Concluding Unscientific Postscript is on one level a philosophical jest, yet on another it is Climacus's characterization of the subjective thinker's relation to the truth of Christianity. At once ironic, humorous, and polemical, this work takes on the "unscientific" form of a mimical-pathetical-dialectical compilation of ideas. Whereas the movement in the earlier pseudonymous writings is away from the aesthetic, the movement in Postscript is away from speculative thought. Kierkegaard intended Postscript to be his concluding work as an author. The subsequent "second authorship" after The Corsair Affair made Postscript the turning point in the entire authorship. Part One of the text volume examines the truth of Christianity as an objective issue, Part Two the subjective issue of what is involved for the individual in becoming a Christian, and the volume ends with an addendum in which Kierkegaard acknowledges and explains his relation to the pseudonymous authors and their writings. The second volume contains the scholarly apparatus, including a key to references and selected entries from Kierkegaard's journals and papers.
