Book Confronting The Enigma Of Time

Download or read book Confronting The Enigma Of Time written by John R Fanchi and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2023-03-14 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Newton's classical mechanics, time played the role of a monotonically increasing evolution parameter. Einstein rejected the Newtonian concept and instead identified time as the fourth coordinate of a space-time four-vector. Today, scientists are considering different concepts of time as a means of resolving incompatibilities between relativity and quantum mechanics. Some view time as an emergent property of a system rather than a fundamental property, while others consider two temporal variables. The purpose of this book is to examine the role of time in modern physics so that the reader gains an increased awareness of time and its place in our understanding of nature.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Antinomianism was the primary theological concern addressed by the Westminster Assembly. Yet until now, no monograph has taken up the specific concerns related to antinomianism and the famous assembly. In Christ and the Law, Whitney G. Gamble sketches the rise of English antinomianism in the early decades of the 1600s to the assembly’s first encounter with it in 1643, summarizing the main theological tenets of antinomianism and examining the assembly’s work against it, both politically and theologically. Along the way, Gamble analyzes how the assembly’s published documents addressed theological issues raised by antinomianism on matters of justification, faith, works, and the moral law. By detailing the assembly’s perspective on antinomianism, Gamble’s book helps further our understanding of the formation, nature, and growth of Reformed theology in seventeenth-century England. Series Description Complementing the primary source material in the Principal Documents of the Westminster Assembly series, the Studies on the Westminster Assembly provides access to classic studies that have not been reprinted and to new studies, providing some of the best existing research on the Assembly and its members.

Download or read book Gambling With Your Soul written by Henry Arnold Davis and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-05-14 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you've ever wondered "What will happen to me when I die?" this book is for you. I first considered the question at eight years of age staring down the barrel of a thirty-eight-caliber revolver under a white-knuckled death grip in my father's hand--the same gun used on him by my older brother years earlier. Drawing on religion, science, philosophy, mathematics, near-death experiences (NDE), out-of-body experiences (OBE), spirit encounters, hundreds of interviews across the globe, and good old-fashioned common sense, Gambling With Your Soul tackles the controversial topic of life after death by standing on two fundamental truths. First, everyone is going to die. Second, no one knows what will happen to them after they die. In the face of these truths, what is your best bet? Analyzing the afterlife beliefs of the world's top twenty-two religions/nonreligions, this book proves it is Christianity. This is not to say that Christianity is "right," and all other religions are "wrong." It is simply your best bet. The book provides an original, objective, and comprehensive answer to the question that's sewn into the DNA of every human being.

Book Parametrized Relativistic Quantum Theory

Download or read book Parametrized Relativistic Quantum Theory written by John R. Fanchi and published by Springer. This book was released on 1993-07-31 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past five de-::ades researchers have sought to develop a new framework that would resolve the anomalies attributable to a patchwork formulation of relativistic quantum mechanics. This book chronicles the development of a new paradigm for describing relativistic quantum phenomena. What makes the new paradigm unique is its inclusion of a physically measurable, invariant evolution parameter. The resulting theory has been sufficiently well developed in the refereed literature that it is now possible to present a synthesis of its ideas and techniques. My synthesis is intended to encourage and enhance future research, and is presented in six parts. The environment within which the conventional paradigm exists is described in the Introduction. Part I eases the mainstream reader into the ideas of the new paradigm by providing the reader with a discussion that should look very familiar, but contains subtle nuances. Indeed, I try to provide the mainstream reader with familiar "landmarks" throughout the text. This is possible because the new paradigm contains the conventional paradigm as a subset. The foundation of the new paradigm is presented in Part II, fol!owed by numerous applications in the remaining three parts. The reader should notice that the new paradigm handles not only the broad class of problems typically dealt with in conventional relativistic quantum theory, but also contains fertile research areas for both experimentalists and theorists. To avoid developing a theoretical framework without physical validity, numerous comparisons between theory and experiment are provided, and several predictions are made.

Book Dostoevsky s The Gambler

Download or read book Dostoevsky s The Gambler written by Svetlana Evdokimova and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2024-02-02 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fyodor Dostoevsky’s novel The Gambler is one of the most profound literary works to treat the phenomenon of gambling with a remarkable depth of psychological analysis and a wide-ranging cultural and philosophical exploration of obsessive behavior, from addictive gambling to erotic passion. This novel delves into the cultural, psychological, and philosophical issues surrounding games of chance such as temporality, freedom, rebellion, choice, uncertainty, determinism, and creativity. This is the first book in English dedicated to The Gambler. This volume considers the phenomenon of gambling from a broad interdisciplinary perspective, focusing not only on medical and psychological concepts of gambling as pathology, but also on the broader cultural, philosophical, religious, and aesthetic aspects of the problem. What triggers fascination with risk-taking and various aleatory activities? What are the relations between gambling, play, and creativity? Can gambling be seen as a form of social or existential rebellion and protest or even a quest for freedom? Scholars from a variety of fields, including psychiatry, psychology, philosophy, literary studies, and musicology, have contributed to this volume and analyzed Dostoevsky’s view of gambling as a fundamental problem of human existence, with implications in the realms of philosophy, religion, and aesthetics.

Book Gambling Game and Psyche

Download or read book Gambling Game and Psyche written by Bettina Liebowitz Knapp and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 2000-01-01 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "While games of chance and of skill have held universal appeal throughout the ages, here Knapp adds a new dimension by exploring the psyches and the cultures of their players. In each of the book's nine chapters, she examines a different type of gambling as evidenced in Western and Eastern tradition through the literary works of Aleichem, Balzac, Dostoevsky, Hesse, Kawabata, Pascal, Poe, Serao, and Zhang. This scrutiny shows both the diversity and universality of each culture as she takes the literary works out of their individual contexts and relates them to humankind in general. Through an examination of seven different cultures - American, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Russian - she shows the effects of gambling on individuals and groups of players as well as its impact on the family and society."--BOOK JACKET.
