Download or read book Reality in No Particular Order written by Dana L. Turner and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2023-12-07 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world is scientifically broken, with protagonists, antagonists, and others battling it out, attempting to hold on to centuries-old, flawed beliefs. Reality, in No Particular Order allows you to look at the world without wearing the rose-colored glasses from your school days. The author challenges numerous assumptions, particularly global warming. The threat, he argues, is not carbon dioxide but rather unconstitutional government edicts intended to take away your freedom using “monster under the bed” tactics. He writes, “For decades, the world stage has been set ablaze by various governmental agencies and their toadies in the media using contrived atmospheric models to promote the idea of global warming and climate change with the only result being increased regulation. Has even one of a myriad of predicted worldwide disasters been mitigated over the past fifty years, or is there an ever-increasing number waiting to destroy us? Centuries ago, Aesop wrote a fable about a boy who cried wolf. The current book of fables is a greatly enlarged, modern edition written by ‘scientists’, edited by the government, and peddled by ignorant, overbearing celebrities, and billionaires who wish to control you by frightening you with imaginary wolves.”

Download or read book Experiencing William James written by James Campbell and published by University of Virginia Press. This book was released on 2017-11-17 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: William James has long been recognized as a central figure in the American philosophic tradition, and his ideas continue to play a significant role in contemporary thinking. Yet there has never been a comprehensive exploration of the thought of this seminal philosopher and psychologist. In Experiencing William James, renowned scholar James Campbell provides the fuller and more complete analysis that James scholarship has long needed. Commentators typically address only pieces of James’s thought or aspects of his vision, often in an attempt to make the task of understanding James seem easier than it is or else to dismiss him as a philosophically unprepared if well-meaning amateur. The isolated nature of these examinations, too often divorced from the original contexts, badly hinders and even distorts their conclusions. Focusing on James’s own ideas rather than his critiques of others, and drawing from a wealth of scholarship that includes the completed editions of his writings and correspondence, Experiencing William James provides an invaluable, comprehensive view of James as he participates in and advances the pragmatic spirit that is at the core of American philosophy. Taking the whole of the man’s thinking into account, this book offers the richest perspective so far on this great but not fully comprehended intellectual.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The choice of the basis of metaphysics is of capital importance. This basis ought to guarantee the very existence and the validity of metaphysics, while given this science at the same time its formal object and a solid foundation. But if metaphysics is bound up with the study of a universal unity or of the totality of things, and if then, our inquiry ought to be concerned with the whole, how can we determine the choice of a point of departure?

Download or read book Handbook of Research on Teaching With Virtual Environments and AI written by Panconesi, Gianni and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2021-02-19 with total page 811 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increasingly pervasive use of digital technology has catapulted society into an interconnected world where the natural boundaries between humankind and machine, virtual and real, individual and community have become less perceptible. As individuals interact with different digital technologies, they must build a digital intelligence, which must be further cultivated as it is a key competency for the future of school and work. Digital intelligence includes understanding the mutual strengths between people and technology, as well as developing an awareness in the use of digital tools in order to avoid common threats such as cyberbullying, addiction to video games, techno-stress, and more. As adolescents continue to engage with virtual reality and 3D virtual worlds where the online and offline overlap and coincide, it is important to build this intelligence as well as utilize these technologies to promote successful learning. The Handbook of Research on Teaching With Virtual Environments and AI explores the new personalized educational opportunities that are available with digital technology and virtual environments that can be used within education. This book focuses on the use of these tools and how to navigate the use of new technologies such as AI and virtual environments for educational practices. While highlighting topics such as virtual worlds, game-based learning, intelligent tutoring, augmented reality, and more, this book is ideal for teachers, administrators, technologists, educational software developers, IT specialists, practitioners, researchers, academicians, and students interested in how virtual environments and AI are being implemented in teaching practices.
Download or read book The Politics of the Real written by D. C. Schindler and published by New Polity Press. This book was released on 2021-03-10 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Schindler shows that liberalism is wrong, not because it has simply “relegated God to the private,” but because it has inverted the world: giving us power without authority, in what becomes a closed, necessarily totalitarian, horizon. Here, nothing else can be done with the transcendent God but to find a quiet little place to keep him, harmless and out of the way. When we let God out, a cosmic hierarchy of act—of participation in Being Himself—explodes into view. And this changes everything. A true integralism, a true postliberalism, moves politics back into a cosmos that is itself analogically ordered to participation in the life of God. With The Politics of the Real, Schindler has elevated the postliberal conversation. — Andrew Willard Jones Director of Catholic Studies at Franciscan University of Steubenville and author of Before Church and State

Download or read book The Mystical Mind written by Andrew B. Newberg, Eugene G. D'Aquili and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 1999 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How does the mind experience the sacred? What biological mechanisms are involved in mystical states and trances? Is there a neurological basis for patterns in comparative religions? Does religion have an evolutionary function? This pathbreaking work by two leading medical researchers explores the neurophysiology of religious experience. Building on an explanation of the basic structure of the brain, the authors focus on parts most relevant to human experience, emotion, and cognition. On this basis, they plot how the brain is involved in mystical experiences. Successive chapters apply this scheme to mythmaking, ritual and liturgy, meditation, near-death experiences, and theology itself. Anchored in such research, the authors also sketch the implications of their work for philosophy, science, theology, and the future of religion.

Download or read book Science Worldviews and Education written by Michael Matthews and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-07-14 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has its origins in a special issue of the journal Science & Education (Volume 18 Numbers 6–7, 2009). The essay by Costas Skordoulis – ‘Science and Worldviews in the Marxist Tradition’ – did not appear in that special issue due to a mistake in production scheduling. It was published in an earlier issue of the journal (Volume 17 Number 6, 2008), but has been included in this book version of the special issue. As explained in the Introduction, the catalyst for the journal special issue was the essay on ‘Science, Worldviews and Education’ submitted to the journal by Hugh G. Gauch Jr. This was circulated to the other contributors who were asked to write their own contribution in the light of the arguments and literature contained in the paper. Hugh made brief ‘Responses and Clari?cations’ after the papers were written. However the Tanis Edis article on Islam and my own article on Priestley were processed too late to bene?t from Hugh’s appraisal. The journal is associated with the International History, Philosophy, and Science Teaching Group which was formed in 1987. The group stages biennial international conferences and occasional regional conferences (details can be found at www. ihpst. org). The group, though the journal, conferences, and its electronic newsletter (at www. ihpst.
