Book Why Faith Makes Sense

Download or read book Why Faith Makes Sense written by Will Jr. Davis and published by Revell. This book was released on 2008-10 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the Bible declares, "The fool has said in his heart that there is no God," our culture has turned that statement on its head. The mantra of today's intellectual crowd is that the fool is the one who believes in God. Sadly, some Christians are starting to believe this, too. Will Davis Jr. says this is nonsense. You don't have to stop thinking to be a Christian. In fact, faith is the logical, natural progression of good reasoning, and it is less foolish to believe in God than not to believe. With common language, humor, biblical teaching, and real-life stories, Why Faith Makes Sense helps everyday believers understand why belief is the rational outcome of clear thinking about the evidence that surrounds us.

Book Keeping Faith in an Age of Reason

Download or read book Keeping Faith in an Age of Reason written by Jason Lisle and published by New Leaf Publishing Group. This book was released on 2017-10-26 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “You can’t trust the Bible — it’s full of hundreds of contradictions.” Really? Just because the critic mindlessly declares it so? Don’t be so fast to believe everything you hear! In this book Dr. Jason Lisle examines 420 claims of Bible contradictions and sets the record straight. Contradiction #139 Was Abraham justified by faith or by works? Romans 4:2 - says by faith VS. James 2:21 - says by works Bifurcation fallacy. Abraham was justified both by faith and by works (James 2:24, 26). To “justify” means either to be in right moral standing or to show that one is (morally) in right standing. Abraham was justified by faith before God since God knows all things — including Abraham’s faith (James 2:23). God sees our hearts (1 Samuel 16:7), so we are justified before God by our faith alone, which God can see. But men cannot see another man’s faith. They only see the outward works that follow from inward faith. Therefore, Abraham was justified before men by the works that followed from his faith, since men cannot see faith but can see works. James explicitly teaches this (James 2:18–26).

Book Family Driven Faith

Download or read book Family Driven Faith written by Voddie T. Baucham Jr. and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2007 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More teens are turning away from the faith than ever before: it is estimated that 75 to 88% of Christian teens walk away from Christianity by the end of their freshman year of college. Something must be done. Family Driven Faith equips Christian parents with the tools they need to raise children biblically in a post-Christian, anti-family society. Voddie Baucham, who with his wife has overcome a multi-generational legacy of broken and dysfunctional homes, shows that God has not left us alone in raising godly children. He has given us timeless precepts and principles for multi-generational faithfulness, especially in Deuteronomy 6. God's simple command to Moses to teach the Word diligently to the children of Israel serves as the foundation of Family Driven Faith. - Publisher.

Book Reasons to Believe

    Book Details:
  • Author : Scott Hahn
  • Publisher : Image
  • Release : 2007-05-08
  • ISBN : 0385521855
  • Pages : 242 pages

Download or read book Reasons to Believe written by Scott Hahn and published by Image. This book was released on 2007-05-08 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book unravels mysteries, corrects misunderstandings, and offers thoughtful, straightforward responses to common objections about the Catholic faith. Bestselling author Scott Hahn, a convert to Catholicism, has experienced the doubts that so often drive discussions about God and the Church. In the years before his conversion, he was first a nonbeliever and then an anti-Catholic clergyman. In REASONS TO BELIEVE, he explains the "how and why" of the Catholic faith—drawing from Scripture, his own struggles and those of other converts, as well as from everyday life and even natural science. Hahn shows that reason and revelation, nature and the supernatural, are not opposed to one another; rather they offer complementary evidence that God exists. But He doesn't merely exist. He is someone, and He has a personality, a personal style, that is discernible and knowable. Hahn leads readers to see that God created the universe with a purpose and a form—a form that can be found in the Book of Genesis and that is there when we view the natural world through a microscope, through a telescope, or through our contact lenses. At the heart of the book is Hahn's examination of the ten "keys to the kingdom"—the characteristics of the Church clearly evident in the Scriptures. As the story of creation discloses, the world is a house that has a Father, a palace where the king is really present. God created the cosmos to be a kingdom, and that kingdom is the universal Church, fully revealed by Jesus Christ.

Book Reason Faith and Revolution

Download or read book Reason Faith and Revolution written by Terry Eagleton and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2009-04-21 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On the one hand, Eagleton demolishes what he calls the "superstitious" view of God held by most atheists and agnostics and offers in its place a revolutionary account of the Christian Gospel. On the other hand, he launches a stinging assault on the betrayal of this revolution by institutional Christianity. There is little joy here, then, either for the anti-God brigade -- Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens in particular -- nor for many conventional believers. --Résumé de l'éditeur.

Book Faith with Reason

  • Author : Joseph R. Farinaccio
  • Publisher : Bookspecs Publishing
  • Release : 2017-05
  • ISBN : 9780990327684
  • Pages : 98 pages

Download or read book Faith with Reason written by Joseph R. Farinaccio and published by Bookspecs Publishing. This book was released on 2017-05 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Is Christianity Really True?" Every religion has its own set of truth-claims. What makes Christianity so different? FAITH WITH REASON is an introduction to the Christian worldview. It explains how the Christian view of reality contrasts with some of the more popular religious notions in our culture today. Topics include: -- Why all religious beliefs are not equal (and how to identify false philosophical notions and inaccurate religious ideas) -- The real relationship between faith and reason (you've probably never heard this before even though St. Augstine taught this historic, scriptural view) -- How we can know the Bible is actually God's Word (with an approach of 100% absolute certainty) -- Why evolution is religion in disguise (and how materialism is an ultimate faith-view) -- How logic opposes non-Christian religions (based upon their own teachings) -- Why the "problem of evil" actually reflects the existence of an all powerful, loving God (hint: evil is a profound psychological problem, but not a logical one when it comes to biblical faith in God) It's been said that, "Everyone does philosophy, but not everyone does it well." This book serves as a basic primer for believers and non-believers alike to better understand why Christianity offers a faith and philosophy of life unlike any other. "This material should challenge the thinking Christian to examine his or her worldview via a decisively Biblical bent. Written in a very readable style, Joe has captured many of the key apologetic principles of the faith. This work should enhance the walk of every believer who is committed to a diet of the meat of the Word." - Dr. Charles Betters Senior Minister - Glasgow Reformed Presbyterian Church Joseph Farinaccio (B.A. History) is a Christian writer and public speaker from New Jersey. His previous writings include published articles on theology, history, and politics from a Christian perspective. Further information can be found at: http: //www.FaithWithReason.com

Book excerpt: "You can be young, passionate about Jesus Christ, surrounded by diversity, engaged in a postmodern world, reared in evangelicalism and not be an emergent Christian. In fact, I want to argue that it would be better if you weren't." The Emergent Church is a strong voice in today's Christian community. And they're talking about good things: caring for the poor, peace for all men, loving Jesus. They're doing church a new way, not content to fit the mold. Again, all good. But there's more to the movement than that. Much more. Kevin and Ted are two guys who, demographically, should be all over this movement. But they're not. And Why We're Not Emergent gives you the solid reasons why. From both a theological and an on-the-street perspective, Kevin and Ted diagnose the emerging church. They pull apart interviews, articles, books, and blogs, helping you see for yourself what it's all about.
