Book Malaysian Development

Download or read book Malaysian Development written by Martin Rudner and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 1994 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Malaysia ranks among the most dynamic of the high-growth Southeast Asian economies, but the prospects for Malaysian success have not always seemed so positive. When Malaysia became independent in 1957, it was a poor and deeply troubled country. With weak political and economic structures, it faced the added threat of a Communist Insurgency. Though the decades since have not been kind to many developing countries, Malaysia has managed to avoid the pitfalls that beset others, and has initiated far-reaching policies designed to restructure its society, alleviate poverty, and promote economic growth. With stable government and a vigorous economy, Malaysia today is among the great success stories of East Asian development."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Book Najibnomics Transforming Malaysia to a High Income Nation UUM Press

This book was released on 2016-01-04 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book attempts to understand Najibnomics-economic policies advocated by the sixth Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak, since he helmed office on April 3, 2009. Najibnomics refers to a new approach to Malaysia’s economic development which is typified by three main characteristics: knowledge, innovation and freedom. It is a set of strategies, programmes and measures meant to transform Malaysia into a high-income and developed nation by the year 2020. Through Najibnomics, the Malaysian government strives to keep the momentum of a sustainable growth trajectory, to enhance the well-being of the rakyat (people) and ensure the country gets out of the “middle-income trap” to become a high-income and developed economy by the year 2020.

Book Economic Development in Ghana and Malaysia

Download or read book Economic Development in Ghana and Malaysia written by Samuel K. Andoh and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-02-05 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Economic Development in Ghana and Malaysia investigates why two countries that appeared to be at more or less the same stage of economic development at one point in time have diverged so substantially. At the time of their independence from the UK in 1957, both Ghana and Malaysia were at roughly the same stage of economic development; in fact, Ghana’s real per capita income was slightly ahead of Malaysia’s. Since then, Ghana’s development has been sluggish, while Malaysia’s economy has taken off into sustained growth and today, the real per capita income of Malaysia is about five times that of Ghana. This volume examines the pre-colonial and colonial economies of both countries, and the economic policies pursued after independence. In doing so, it aims to identify policies which might have contributed to Malaysia’s development and those which might have slowed Ghana’s. The authors ask whether lessons can be learned from the successes of countries such as Malaysia. This detailed comparative analysis will be useful to students and researchers of development economics as well as public policy makers in developing countries. It is written in language which makes it accessible to the general reader.

Book Malaysia 50 Economic Development Distribution Disparities

Download or read book Malaysia 50 Economic Development Distribution Disparities written by Jomo Kwame Sundaram and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2013-09-16 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Malaysia has grown and changed a great deal since it was formed on 16 September 1963. It was then seen as an unlikely nation hastily put together as a federation of British controlled territories in the region. Brunei's refusal to join at the eleventh hour and Singapore's secession before its second birthday only seemed to confirm such doubts.Yet, it has not only survived, but even thrived, often cited as a developing country worthy of emulation. Ruled by the same ruling coalition since the mid-1950s, it has been tempting to emphasize continuities, and there certainly have been many.Looking back at its last half century, this volume first considers changes in development policy in response to national as well as international developments. The remaining three parts consider how public policy has been influenced by and has, in turn, influenced economic distribution, public finance and economic federalism.Besides the familiar focus on ethnic disparities, regional and other distribution issues are considered. The discussion of government taxation as well as spending also focuses on distribution implications. Although constitutionally a federation, Malaysia has been more centralized than most federal states. The way forward requires greater sensitivity to the complex political economy of Malaysia's unlikely, but nonetheless resilient federation and ruling coalition. This book is published and distributed worldwide by World Scientific Publishing Co Pte Ltd except Malaysia.

Book Malaysia s Economic Challenges

Download or read book Malaysia s Economic Challenges written by Ramon V. Navaratnam and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 696 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Malaysia's economic development process and experience is unique. This book explores the country's economic policies: their implementation, impact and effectiveness, and provides the sorely needed economic literature on the Malaysian experience. By highlighting institutional weakness, the author recommends overdue reforms in the economic and banking sectors and in Malaysian public administration. By seeking to fathom the depths of the Asian financial crisis of 1997, he draws lessons from it and looks at ways to reshape the Malaysian economy in the tide of globalization, besides urging reforms and suggesting how both the Malaysian government and private sector can benefit from the challenges ahead. By combining an analytical approach with plain, communicative language, the author offers a cogent assessment of what Malaysia needs to do today to build a better tomorrow.
