Book excerpt: Ewes use yews for shade. The price for fare was fair at the county fair. He does not see the does. These examples demonstrate why pronunciation and spelling can be difficult for English learners.English has many words that sound the same -- or almost the same -- but are spelled differently (homophones). There are also words that sound differently and have different meanings but are spelled the same (heteronyms). Collected here are many of these words along with International Pronunciation Alphabet (IPA) pronunciations, definitions and parts of speech. Section I contains more than 1,100 homophone groups, each having two or more words, for a total of more than 2,400 words. Section II contains over 200 heteronyms. The IPA pronunciations are those most likely heard in everyday American speech. Many synonyms are provided with usage examples. Some words are used more often than others -- some you may never need to use.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Homophones and Other Homonyms of Sight Words offers reproducible coloring and worksheet pages specially designed to teach students the difference between the words homonyms, homophones, homographs, and heteronyms. Besides the coloring sheets, worksheets are also available for individual practice and to assess student learning, and answer keys are provided at the back of the book. Kids will discover that homophone words are a type of homonym but that not all homonyms are spelled differently. For example, foot is also a homonym because it can refer to either a body part that helps us to walk or to a measurement term meaning 12 inches long. In addition, they will learn that not all words that are spelled alike have the same meaning or pronunciation, as in the homographs (heteronyms) wind, referring to a movement of air, and wind, meaning to twist around. This book was released on 2021-06-10 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What are Homophones Booklets? Introducing our new Homophones Booklets for 1st grade onwards and for children with learning differences like dyslexia. These booklets make learning homophones fun. Homophones can be very confusing for children, especially those who struggle with memorization. The booklets work on each homophone in isolation by using the word in a sentence. The sentence provides a context to students, helping them comprehend the meaning of the individual homophone, thereby increasing reading fluency as well as reading comprehension. Once each homophone has been individually used in a sentence, both homophones in the pair are combined in a single sentence to help students understand the difference between the words in a pair of homophones. These 'bite-sized' booklets have just enough pages to keep your student engaged without feeling intimidated. These reading booklets are extremely effective when used after your child has used Picture Homophones(TM) flashcards and workbooks, but can also be used independently. Excellent resource for schools, tutoring & learning centers, daycare centers for children entering or in kindergarten, easy for parents to use at home, great for homeschoolers. A top resource for all English language learners of any age including non-English speakers learning English as a second language (ELL/ESL).
