Book Reaction Zone During Detonation of Two Phase Mixtures

Download or read book Reaction Zone During Detonation of Two Phase Mixtures written by A. A. Borisov and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The article examines thermodynamic and gas dynamic parameters of wave diffusion and speed of heat evolution in the reaction zone of a combustion chamber during heterogeneous detonation of two-phase mixtures. Combustion of liquid drops (heptane and gaseous oxygen) distributed in an atmosphere of a gaseous oxidizer is compared on the basis of two models: vaporation and crushing. Graphs of parameters of flow given for both models in terms of size of drops shows that combustion speed by vaporization compares to that by crushing only for very small drops.

Book Detonation and Two Phase Flow

Download or read book Detonation and Two Phase Flow written by S Penner and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progress in Astronautics and Rocketry, Volume 6: Detonation and Two-Phase Flow compiles technical papers presented at the ARS Propellants, Combustion, and Liquid Rockets Conference held in Palm Beach, Florida on April 26-28, 1961. This book provides an excellent illustration of research and development on a selected group of problems relating to detonations, two-phase nozzle flow, and combustion in liquid fuel rocket engines. This volume is divided into two parts. Part 1 covers the entire range of physical conditions under which detonation may be initiated or sustained, such as high explosives, solid propellants, liquid sprays, and gases. Experimental and theoretical studies are also discussed, including the significant progress of the basic phenomena involved in transition from deflagration to detonation, and nature of stable detonations in dilute sprays and other systems. The perennial problems associated with high frequency instabilities in liquid fuel rocket engines are considered in Part 2. This publication is valuable to students and investigators working in the field of propulsion research and development.

Book Simulations of Gas Phase Detonations

Download or read book Simulations of Gas Phase Detonations written by and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Detailed numerical simulations of supersonic reactive flow and gas phase detonation problems are very expensive due to their computer time and memory requirements. The bulk of this cost is in integrating the ordinary differential equations describing chemical reactions. A global induction parameter model has thus been developed which describes the chemical induction time of a mixture and allows for release of energy over a finite time period. The specific gases for which it has been calibrated are stoichiometric mixtures of hydrogen and methane in air. The relatively inexpensive induction parameter model is then used in time-dependent one- and two-dimensional simulations of supersonic reactive flows. (Author).

Book Explosion Hazards and Evaluation

Download or read book Explosion Hazards and Evaluation written by W.E. Baker and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 840 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explosion Hazards and Evaluation presents the principles and applications of explosion hazards evaluation. The text is organized into nine chapters. Chapters 1 and 2 discuss the energy release processes which generate accidental explosions, and the resulting development of pressure and shock waves in a surrounding atmosphere. The manner in which the "free-field" waves are modified in interacting with structures or other objects in their paths is discussed in Chapter 3. Structural response to blast loading and non-penetrating impact is covered in two chapters, with Chapter 4 including simplified analysis methods and Chapter 5 including numerical methods. Chapter 6 includes a rather comprehensive treatment of generation of fragments and missiles in explosions, and the flight and effects of impact of these objects. Chapter 7 considers thermal radiation of large chemical explosions. Explosions may or may not cause damage or casualty, and various damage criteria have been developed for structures, vehicles, and people. These criteria are presented in Chapter 8. General procedures for both the postmortem evaluation of accidental explosions and for design for blast and impact resistance are reviewed in Chapter 9. Engineers, scientists, and plant safety personnel will find the book very useful.

Book The Effects of Physical and Chemical Processes on Two Phase Detonations

Download or read book The Effects of Physical and Chemical Processes on Two Phase Detonations written by Pai-Lien Lu and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Systematic studies of the effect of additives and fuel drop size on the detonability of heptane-air mixtures have been carried out under controlled laboratory conditions and in large scale field tests. It was shown in the shock tube studies that n-propyl nitrate and butyl nitrite as well as, to a lesser extent, small drop size can greatly widen the detonation limits and reduce initiation requirements of heptane-air mixtures. Large scale field tests of explosively disseminated fuel-air clouds confirm findings obtained in the laboratory tests, demonstrating that systematic laboratory tests can be used to predict detonability and performance of any new fuel system to be used in FAE munitions. Unique schlieren photographs of the reaction zone of propagating fuel-air detonations have been successfully obtained. No blast waves are observed either in the wave of single shocked fuel drops or from drops in the reaction zones of propagating detonations with air. Apparently, the assumption that such blast waves are necessary to maintain a two-phase detonation, is incorrect. Sensitized heptane is potentially superior to fuels used in current FAE munitions, providing increased explosive performance (larger area coverage per unit weight of fuel), greater safety in transport and handling and lower procurement costs.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Of late the demands of industry in creating new composite and functional materials with present properties stimulated an increased interest to the investigation of processes which occur in the detonation technologies of complex chemical composition with an additive of disperse particles. The collection includes a series of papers presented at the 3d International Conference "Lavrentyev Readings on Mathematics, Mechanics, and Physics" (Novosibirsk, 1990),was held by the Hydrodynamics Institute under the support of the Presidium of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences to stimulate the international cooperation of the leading international centers. In the framework of this Conference the Round Table seminar was held by Prof. A. Borissov and Prof. V. Mi trofanov devoted to "Dynamic Structure of Detonation in Gaseous and Dispersed Media". The idea to hold such Round Table was supported by Chairman of Organizing Committee academician Prof. V.Titov from Hydrodynamics Institute, and academician Prof. V. Nakoryakov and also his Institute of Thermophysics. The main ideas discussed at the Round Table were presented in the form of papers which reflected present situation of the problem of dynamic structure of the detonation waves in gaseous and dispersed media. The basic experimental facts concerning of complicated mul ti dimensional non-stationary structure both of the detonation wave and its front surface, generation of the cell structure, the effect of transverse waves, obstacles, channel geometry etc. on the transition from dynamic regime to stationary structure are represented in the fist three papers.

Book Detonation Phenomena of Condensed Explosives

Download or read book Detonation Phenomena of Condensed Explosives written by Shiro Kubota and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-13 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents fundamental theory of shock and detonation waves as well as selected studies in detonation research in Japan, contributed by selected experts in safety research on explosives, development of industrial explosives, and application of explosives.
